When XO Max Picard and the catastrophically unlucky crew of the Chronos respond to a distress call from the Lohengrin colony, they find only darkness and enough nightmare material to fill several therapy sessions. Unfortunately, something sneaks back in with them, a parasitic horror with a talent for human body modification and a complete disregard for personal boundaries, all while EREBUS, the ship''''s AI, decides that sanity is just a suggestion and insanity is the new trend. Now Picard is trapped on a ship full of crewmen turned monsters, tormented by visions of forests and fireflies, and watching as a mysterious vessel approaches through space. Apparently the universe decided that one existential threat was not enough for one Tuesday. A connection between an ancient alien machine, these ghostly visions and the ghastly creatures must be established, assuming Picard lives long enough to discover it. When the lights go on, humanity goes out. ---- This is a novel I finished last year, but I will post it here as a web serial. In a nutshell, this thing is like System Shock 2 but on crack.
