Calliope Mondegrene has always felt a bit of an alien among her fellow humans. A nerdy self-proclaimed loser sleepwalking through life in a Bostonian triplex, her introversion seems to be boundless, to the point where it leads her to avoid social interaction at the parties she''''s forced to attend--by getting really, really, high. Too high, it turns out, when she sees--and is seen by--something beyond her understanding that, for some unfathomable reason, takes an interest in her sad little life. Antigreen is a queer eldritch romance, exploring the palpitating horror of unconditional love, the infectiousness of personhood, and the darkness of the feminine void. Set in an alternate low fantasy Massachusetts, it blends titles and tidbits from the works of H.P. Lovecraft (The Colour out of Space, etc) with some quantum chromodynamics and allusions to the Queen of Heaven, along with a women-centered cast and a queer, transfem protagonist.
