The eruption of the Red Mountain at the beginning of the 4th Era was the biggest natural catastrophe in the history of Tamriel. It caused the biggest wave of refugees Tamriel has ever seen. Thousands of Dunmer died and Morrowind was weakened, its Great Houses in disarray and its military incapacitated. Argonians in the south saw this as an opportunity and launched a large scale invasion that would cripple Morrowind for several decades. This war, called the Accession war brought misery to the Dunmer people, left thousands of dead and razed several cities.
