Chapter 27

Thailon was having a hard time hiding his annoyance.

What's with these people? he thought, glaring at the crowd swarming around him and Caelum.

Reporters and curious bystanders pushed forward, jostling one another to get closer to the legendary figures. Their questions came in rapid-fire, loud and intrusive.

Since it's been rare for Thailon one of the great hero to be outside and reach for people.

"Great Hero, may we ask what business brings you here?"

"Is it true you're returning to adventuring?"

"Are you now on good terms with the Hennessy family?"

Thailon's brow twitched. They're kidding, right? He exchanged a glance with Caelum, whose frown deepened as the noise increased.

"Most likely," Caelum muttered. Then, suddenly, his eyes widened. "Wait... where's she?" He scanned the crowd.

Thailon whipped around, his own annoyance momentarily forgotten. Lara was nowhere to be seen.

Both he and Caelum had been too preoccupied with dodging questions and pushing through the throngs of people.

"Did we lose her again?" Thailon groaned.

"Most likely," Caelum deadpanned, his voice laced with exhaustion.

The pressure of the crowd intensified, people pressing even closer, eager for any response from the heroes.

Caelum, clearly fed up, raised a hand, and with a swift motion, a glowing barrier of mana burst out from him, shoving the crowd back and leaving a protective bubble around him and Thailon. The sudden shift in energy sent shivers down the spines of the onlookers, who stumbled back in surprise.

"Now," Thailon said, rubbing his temples as he scanned the area.

"Where the hell did she go?"

Caelum tilted his head, eyes narrowing.

"Well, we did lose her... again," he repeated, clearly frustrated but not surprised

Lara had a habit of disappearing at the worst moments.

Like a hero who is always late and lost.

An obvious wave of stress washed over Thailon.

His jaw clenched, and without warning, he stormed over to the nearest reporter, who had frozen in place, holding out a microphone as if it were a peace offering.

Thailon didn't bother with pleasantries. His aura darkened, and his voice dropped dangerously low.

"Who the hell told you about our arrival?" he demanded, glaring daggers at the poor reporter. His tone was so cold that the temperature around them seemed to drop, sending a collective shiver through the crowd.

The reporter blinked, trembling as they tried to form a coherent response.

"W-well, um, it was a rumor—uh, some insider said—"

"Useless." Thailon cut them off with a dismissive wave before turning back to Caelum.

  "Can you reach her?"

Caelum, now fiddling with his system, scowled in frustration.

"She turned off her system again," he grumbled, shaking his head. "She always does this when she's sneaking around."

Thailon sighed, running a hand through his hair.

"Great. Just great. We lost her in a crowd of reporters, and now she's gone dark. Fantastic." His sarcasm was as thick as the tension in the air.

"Well, the answer's obvious," Caelum said, stretching his arms.

"We'd better go find her before she causes any more chaos."

"Like I didn't know that already," Thailon snapped, before softening. He knew it wasn't Caelum's fault, but his patience was wearing thin.

Also the fact the Lara is always caught up with unlucky circumstances make them uncomfortable and worried at the same time.

Without wasting another second, both of them vanished in a blur of speed, leaving the crowd in a stunned silence as Caelum's barrier dissolved. The reporters and onlookers blinked, confused, as they tried to process what had just happened.

As the two heroes darted through the city, their enhanced senses scanning for any sign of their elusive companion, Thailon muttered under his breath.

  "Every. Single. Time."

  Caelum smirked slightly.

"It's like she enjoys watching us run around after her."

Thailon rolled his eyes. "She probably does."

  Oh she did not
