Chapter 13 – The Plan.
“Black Dawn Tower.”
Ash pointed at the screen.
“Tallest structure in Duskwatch. Owned by Don Vito Uru. Crime lord. Psychopath. Tower has twenty floors below ground. Real treasure sits at -20.”
Grim blinked, “We’re going for that?”
Ash nodded.
“Client wants some documents. Five mil. One for each of you. Three for me. I’m also setting up a fireshow.”
Larazo raised a hand, “Wait. Fireshow?”
Ash didn’t elaborate, “The party’s in five days. Don’s birthday. Everyone who’s anyone will be there. Ground floor. Flashy. Dangerous. Mandatory.”
Grim said looking at Lazaro, “Who’s this guy again?”

“He’s Lazaro, Tech genius and a professional sloth, acquaintance of mine,” Ash said.
Larazo shrugged. “That’s just a stereotype on us techies”
Ash switched the slide. The screen zoomed in. Ducts. Corridors. Layers of steel.
“You two go as guests. -15 has duct access. That’s the path. From there, Larazo handles the tech. Grim keeps lookout.”
“And the fire?” Grim asked.
Ash grinned, “Buffet. Full blaze. I’ll handle that.”
“Why the buffet?”
“No one leaves steak behind.”
Larazo nodded sagely. “True.”
Ash sighed. “Top fifteen floors of the basement have manual security. Top 5, They’ll run to help. That’s our window. Below that, it’s tech. Lasers, scanners, anti-fun measures.”
“I’m good with tech,” Larazo said.
“They trust wires. Wires don’t talk back.”
“Just don’t trip anything. One beep and we’re ash.”
Grim frowned, “No offense.”
“Shut up.”
Ash flipped to the final slide, “Get in. Steal the docs. Get out via duct route to the fifth above-ground floor. Total ghost op. No stunts. No speeches.”
Larazo raised his hand again. “Can I wear a tux?”
Ash stared.
Silence. And then coughs.
“We will come to that later.”
Grim leaned back. “Hey, Ash?”
“What now?”
“I’m gonna punch the Don.”
“No, you’re not.”
“I already packed my gloves.”
“I will replace you with a toaster.”
