  Why would he say don’t die? Kaylen thought as she fumbled for the triangle that fell. He had to be exaggerating the situation. Flames erupted to her left nearly burning her, she swiftly grabbed the triangle. Dodging under a nearby unoccupied table she just barely avoided what goo that sizzled as it hit the ground.

  Watch it!!! Slain’s deep menacing voice roared

  A shiver could be felt throughout the room causing the juice induced people to temporarily shake, halting attacks that were still forming. Taking advantage of the halt in movement, Kaylen pushed the table on its side readying for an attack. Frost covered it moments later as the attacks continued. Frozen in fear, she sat as the table jerked with blasts and attacks. Surprisingly no one moved in for any physical attacks, leaving Kaylen time to collect her thoughts.

  Can you guys maybe stop? Kaylen said as the top of the table began to crack.

  Seeing her pleas falling on deaf ears Kaylen nearly began to panic. The attacks were coming more frequently but no one advanced. Taking a quick peek she squealed again in fright.

  Why me? Why me? Why me?

  She said as her heart seemed to beat out of her chest. Remembering the items she was handed Kaylen threw one to the side blindly with a scream.

  What’s happening? a confused male voice said

  Where am I? Said a woman’s voice

  It’s gonna eat us? Another woman sounded before a slurping sound was heard

  Useless!! It’s too late for all that now girl. Slain said sounding unhinged

  Your fight is over here beast. Davren’s voice sounded as a tentacle hit the table pushing away Kaylen’s cover. Moving faster than she ever had Kaylen scrambled, dodging another attack which was partially blocked by Davren who held some sort of glowing sword.

  Hurry!! This thing is getting stronger by the minute. Davren said grunting

  Slurp

  Genin, the floor ate Genin, somebody help.. Oof

  Kaylen ran past the screamer just as a blast hit her disintegrating her.

  I said watch it!! Slain said as the room shook. A tentacles flashing through the room followed by a thud

  Oh my God, Is that guy dead!! A young man screamed

  Noticing that the attacks stopped as she hid in front of the confused section of the crowd. For the first time she noticed why no one launched a physical attack on her. Every individual was rooted into the ground by pink fleshy goo that grew from the ground and seemed to be inching up their legs. Wanting to avoid whatever is happening to them from affecting her, Kaylen launched the second of the three triangles toward the next hostile section as two more loud slurping sounds could be heard.

  Help us!!! A gaunt woman cry’s out, grabbing at Kaylen

  Kaylen found herself being pulled back towards the panicked section hitting the ground as the woman who grabbed her tried to pull herself loose using Kaylen as leverage

  Stop, please!! Kaylen yelled at the woman, hitting her arm with the last triangle

  What’s the hold up over there? Davren yelled

  Kaylen risked a quick glance and watched in horror as the glow on Davren’s sword was dim and three of his four limbs were wrapped by tentacles. Slain’s mouth had widened as if it was ready to engulf him. Another slurping sound drew Kaylen back to her situation as she finally found out what that noise was. Kaylen stifled a scream as the woman who previously grabbed her was violently sucked into the ground through the flesh trap as her blood curdling yelling was first muffled and then silenced.

  Don’t let him eat anyone else dammit, this thing’s aura is a deeper yellow now. Davren barked before his words too grew muffled.

  What am I supposed to do??? Kaylen yelled back

  She couldn’t understand his muffed response and had no weapons or anything.

  How long will this null field last? A deep soft baritone voice cut through the noise around her.

  Immediately the fear Kaylen felt washed away. It was like a tide receded leaving her with a clear, focused mind. Looking around for the origin of the voice she locked eyes with piercing blue eyes hidden behind long black hair

  What’s happening to me? She said not loving the feeling that her mind was being messed with.

  Please don’t resist so much, I’m just getting a handle on this ability. It’s called soothing speech and it will only last for about a minute I promise. I don’t have enough essence to hold it for long and this is the weak version. I’m calming both you and this group.

  Kaylen wanted to be afraid again but the ability wouldn’t let her. She was forced to think clearly and she didn’t like it.

  As if he could hear her thoughts he said. Name’s Rycore Sandsmith, I’m a healer from the Verion Kingdom. This is a strange progression of my healing abilities I unlocked before entering this place. Believe me I mean you no harm, if we are going to get out of this we need you and for that you have to be clear minded. I’m not sure what you are going to do next but null items like those aren’t really high quality. They don’t last very long. You need to place the next one closer than you did this one or the fields won’t overlap properly.

  How do you know that? Kaylen said as she dodged a severed tentacle which hit a gray haired woman behind her snapping her leg with a painful sounding impact.

  Another man is sucked into the ground, this time others around him grab his arms attempting to hold him up.

  Kaylen, it’s still growing limbs, what’s going on over there!! I swear if another person is eaten I'm gonna….

  Davren’s words are muffled again as another tentacle wraps around his face

  Kaylen glanced again at Rycore who looked ragged as he held his hand out to the woman who had her leg snapped. Watching in amazement she saw the leg heal itself, she had recognized the purple muted light that came with long distance healing. Because she was from a noble house she knew how rare that ability really is so it was impressive.

  Go!! Rycore’s voice sounded again but this time it was raspy as if it had been strained. I can’t hold the panic back for much longer and heal the wounded at the same time.

  Renewing her resolve Kaylen got onto her feet dashing into the crowd. Her movements were like flowing water as she made her way through the crowd avoiding flailing arms, bent bodies and as she reached the front of the calmed line, attacks. The intensity of the blasts were still there but two weak force shields covered her from attacks suddenly. Turning to her side she saw two twin boys who barely looked to be twelve years old give her a smirk.

  With that back up she rolled under an attempted grab by one of the controlled individuals, rose and spinned avoiding a punch. Feeling more confident she flipped over the head of a man shortened by his sinking into the fleshy goo but was grabbed by the woman behind him.

  Not like this, she thought. Let. Go. Of. Me. She said forcefully to no avail.

  A vine appeared from nowhere smacking the woman in the face loosening her grip. Turning she saw a man wrapped in green cloth give her a nod.

  Slurp

  The man was quickly sucked into the ground. Not wanting to waste the brief reprieve his sacrifice gave her, Kaylen spun avoiding another grab and found an ideal location to throw her last null triangle. Placing it didn’t come without cost though as she was hit with a weak flameball right after it activated.

  Nooo, you ungrateful witch. Now you all die!!! Slain screamed
