My name is Rosalina Lucinda Valentine. I was born in the Kalos Region, where I lived with my mother and father and their Pokémon, but when I was five years old, my parents and I were attacked by a strange group of people while we were going out to dinner.
My parents were killed, and I was left alone with no other living relative. My grandmother took me in and sold all my parents Pokémon.
Grandmother took me to her home in the Hoenn region, where I would be raised. Grandmother only had two rules: obey what she says, and I am never to have a Pokémon.
I feared my grandmother; she was a strict woman who enrolled me in a strict private school in Olddale town. My life was miserable, especially since I had to study ballet, how to play the flute, civil etiquette, the arts, and so much more.
If I dared deny my grandmother, she would lock me in the basement for several days.
So I lived a nightmare for several days.
I am now 16 years old, and I am properly dressed in my school uniform. It’s a hideous uniform. I look at myself in the mirror, and I smile, seeing my long pastel pink hair. My hair reaches down to my calves. I then go downstairs, grab my lunch, and walk past my grandmother, who is in the middle of a business meeting on her laptop.
I don’t dare say a word and make my way to Oldale Town, walking along Route 101, and as I’m walking, I can’t help but shed a tear. I hate my life with my grandmother.
My parents were Pokemon Coordinators, both of them. They were the most well-known in the world; they were known as the Divine Valentinoes.
And their Pokémon I truly miss them the most. They were all like my brothers and sisters, and from what I can recall, they each used to babysit me. I rode on their backs, got splashed with water, and even napped with them. I forget what Pokémon my parents had bonded with exactly, but I know they loved me as much as my parents did.
I soon see the entrance to Oldale Town. I silently groan and mentally scream, dreading my existence, but then I hear a scream. It’s so shrill and filled with a lot of pain. I soon drop my bag and run towards the scream. I end up running into the tall grass.
For a moment the fear of what my grandmother would do to me if she found out stuns me, but then I hear another scream.
I then continue, someone might need help. I soon came across a clearing in the tall grass and saw two Pokémon currently fighting. One of them is a green bud with a yellow face; the other is a strange black dog with distinct marks.
Looking at the Green Bud, the poor thing looked to be in a lot of pain; it was panting and looked like it might fall over at any moment, and that black dog Pokemon was about to perform a final attack.
Against my better judgment, I quickly ran out and scooped up the green Bud Pokemon. In doing so, I took the brunt of the Black Dog Pokemon’s attack, and I would let out a scream, but I would stifle myself so I didn’t scare the little green Bud Pokemon in my arms. I then ran like hell to Oldale Town.
Once we were safe, I began to walk, looking down at the green Bud Pokemon in my hands. He had passed out. I began to panic again. I then ran to the Pokemon Center and quickly flagged down a nurse. Joy

The Nurse Joy came over to me and quickly took me into the back, where she got the little green Pokémon set up in a medical bed. She ran some tests on the little Pokémon.
I was about to leave when the nurse stopped me by saying
Nurse Joy: Sorry, young lady, but don’t you want to stay and make sure your Pokémon is alright?
I blushed. She thought that sweet little Pokémon was mine. I don’t know why I said it, but I responded with
Rose: Yes, of course.
The Nurse Joy would then direct me to a chair next to the little bud Pokemon’s bed, and I watched intently as the Nurse Joy proceeded to bandage him up. She then turned to me and said,
Nurse Joy: Your Budew is on the road to recovery. He should be better by tomorrow, thankfully, but how did he get so hurt?
Rose: Oh, um, we, um
The nurse put her hand on my shoulder and smiled, saying
Nurse Joy: Calm down. I understand we all lose a battle every once in a while.
I would blush once again. I had never thought of doing a Pokémon battle before; I never thought I would be near a Pokémon again.
The nurse then offered to get me a drink. I thanked her. The nurse soon left the room, and I looked to the Budew. He was an adorable little Pokémon, and to see him sleeping peacefully made me smile.
I would soon take the drink from the nurse, and she left the room again. A few minutes after finishing my drink, the little Budew began to toss and turn; he was whimpering in his sleep.
I was concerned for him, so I began to cradle him in my arms. The sweet little Budew quickly began to calm down. He soon went back into a peaceful sleep, and I couldn’t help but smile. He felt so warm, and it felt good to hold him.
After another hour, the little Budew woke up, looking up at me. He smiled and began to nuzzle into me.
The nurse would come in moments later with food for the Budew. He was hesitant and frightened. The nurse then looked to me, and I took one pellet of food and brought it to the Budew’s mouth.
The little Pokémon then looked to me seeking reassurance. I gave him a trusting smile and even took a bite of the pellet myself, and it wasn’t half bad. Upon seeing me take a nibble, the little Budew happily began eating the rest of the pellets.
Nurse Joy: My, my, you're a natural at this. I don't know many new trainers who are willing to nip at a pellet for their first Pokémon.
Rose: Oh, was it that obvious?
The nurse snickered, and she asked me to help her with performing the rest of the tests with Budew. I agreed.
The rest of the tests were kind of intimidating. I can see why she wanted help. I managed to comfort Budew so the tests could go smoothly, and thankfully there were no other serious injuries.
I soon spotted the clock, and it was now 8 pm. All the color would drain from my face, realizing I had been here all day.
Rose: Sorry, but I need to go. My grandmother is probably freaking out.
Nurse Joy: Ah, I see. Well, I can keep an eye on Budew until you come back.
Rose: Thank you.
I would hand Budew over to Nurse Joy, and I would make my way to the door. The moment I step out of the room, I hear a series of cries. Turning around, I see Budew is in tears; he’s crying his eyes out and trying to get to me. I quickly come back and offer him a caress on the head and say,
Rose: Don’t worry, little prince, I’ll be back tomorrow for sure. You just be a good little boy so you can get better.
Budew: Loving Dew~
I smiled and then walked home. Hopefully Grandmother would be asleep. Hopefully upon returning to Little Root Town, I walked to my grandmother’s house. It was the largest in the little town. Opening the door, I tried to quietly sneak up to my room, but then I felt my hair being forcefully tugged, and I was thrown to the ground, and I screamed.
Looking up, I saw my grandmother.
Grandmother: You ungrateful little slut, how dare you make me look bad?
Rose: I’m sorry, Grandmother.
What would happen next was me being kicked and trying not to scream. If I scream, I’ll only get hurt even worse. Anything that would hurt my grandmother’s perfect image would only make things even worse for me.
Grandmother soon has her fill with correcting me, and I was limping upstairs to the jail cell of a room and resting on the bed.
I would normally cry when I got a beating like this, but this time I felt nothing but warmth because I saved and held a Pokémon.
And that was the best moment.
