Chapter 168: Xanthia’s Sus

Xanthia was unaware that, in his fervent eagerness to assist her in securing a studio space, Dionysius had, together with Dematero, devised a “genius” pn in order to confirm her mental state.

As for Xanthia’s own mental state, she could say with absolute certainty that it had never been better.

She was thoroughly content with her current life at school—free and carefree, with every day unfolding in delightful unpredictability. The students in her css were all exceptional, engaging in conversations that were as pleasant as they were lively, and the fun seemed endless. She absolutely adored it here.

As a result, her days were filled with joy and a fulfilling sense of purpose.

The steady flow of happy points she was accumuting were being invested into the basic attributes of her character. The continuous sense of improvement was immensely reassuring, a source of unwavering satisfaction.

In addition to upgrading her basic attributes, she did not neglect enhancing her key skills—particurly in music, and in physical activities such as table tennis and figure skating.

Even in the midst of her physical education and activity csses at school, as she pyed and experimented, she unexpectedly gained new insights into ball sports. One could only say that the “Wisdom Root” buff added by several attributes was extraordinarily powerful.

Take volleyball as an example—Xanthia’s involvement with the sport was little more than casual py, a bit of ball control when the mood struck. She recalled that, in the original world, during her middle school years, physical education exams included tasks such as the three-step yup and setting a volleyball a certain number of times.

She had chosen the volleyball option back then, as it seemed simpler, based on a recommendation from her PE teacher, who suggested that it was easier than the yup.

Naturally, she scored full marks in her physical exam, as the volleyball task was retively straightforward.

Now, as she casually pyed with the same volleyball technique she had mastered back then, she unexpectedly gained a Lv1 skill in Hand-Eye Coordination.

What truly bewildered and delighted Xanthia was that this skill encompassed not only volleyball but also basketball, handball, and any other ball games involving the use of the hands!

It was absurd, yet in line with the system’s usual nature. It was too zy to differentiate between volleyball, basketball, or anything else, since they all involved bouncing a ball, grabbing a ball, or throwing a ball.

To the system, NBA were probably just a bunch of apes fighting over a ball.

Xanthia had quite the ability to accept such oddities, and she was pleasantly surprised that, through pying volleyball, her basketball skills had improved as well. It was an unexpected bonus.

Marcus El Postacio, had been wanting to invite her to py street basketball, and he pnned to bring Dionysius along too.

However, Xanthia had no real foundation in basketball, unlike table tennis. Now, with the unexpected improvement of her basketball skills through volleyball, she realised that if she teamed up with her “left-handed” attribute, she could easily surprise Marcus and his basketball friends. It would be a great chance to shine in front of everyone.

Perhaps, Dionysius also pyed basketball well?

If she could show up her younger brother on the basketball court, Xanthia thought it would be a wonderfully “sisterly” thing to do. Just thinking about it brought a smile to her face.

She even considered taking up football, though only as a goalkeeper—since the goalkeeper was the only position where hands were allowed to py the ball.

And since she now had the Hand-Eye Coordination attribute, there was bound to be a simir skill for foot-based ball sports. But after much thought, she couldn’t quite figure out what other foot-based ball games.

Nonetheless, given the system’s usual approach, she suspected that if she spent some time pying football, she could also develop a basic proficiency in the sport and might, in the process, become a superpyer as both involved the use of feet...

Were there any other sports that required using the legs to compete? She felt quite confident in her leg strength, and the thought of showing it off brought her a bit of joy.

While pying these ball games, Xanthia was quite rexed. Like her cssmates, she treated it purely as a means of rexation, rather than approaching it with the same seriousness and focus she applied to figure skating, where she aimed for rapid skill improvement.

However, for someone with her level of talent, her progress came swiftly, even when she was merely pying for fun.

After all, she had the “left-handed” attribute, and she noticed that using her left hand to py with the ball seemed to elevate her skill level to another tier.

Each session of physical education still brought her significant joy points, though there was the occasional issue with the PE teacher’s health—his frequent illness would often result in the css being cancelled.

However, since they were still in the first year of high school, such canceltions weren’t too frequent. As the academic workload increased in ter years, the probability of the PE teacher being ill would rise dramatically, and the teacher’s health status would often be determined by the will of the main subject teachers.

In any case, as Xanthia reflected on her week’s progress, everything was proceeding in a steady, organised fashion, just as she had pnned. The unexpected acquisition of the Hand-Eye Coordination attribute was a delightful bonus.

What was slightly disappointing, however, was that this week she hadn’t unlocked any system challenges, reward-rich tasks, or special event missions. All she had were the usual routine tasks and daily missions.

These tasks, which appeared almost daily, were completed without much effort on her part. The system wasn’t the type to demand excessive grinding, which meant it never felt like a relentless job.

Xanthia was quite pleased with this, for, being an experienced pyer, she had deduced that unless she was urgently focused on levelling a particur attribute, the routine tasks were mostly inconsequential.

After all, completing these tasks did take time, and she could just as easily invest that time in seeking out enjoyment. The happy points she accumuted from such activities were just as worthwhile as those from completing a task.

Of course, if Xanthia had a genuine interest in a particur attribute, and willingly devoted time to the tasks associated with it, then the return on investment would be far more rewarding. Skill progression could yield a lot of happy points.

The more Xanthia studied the system, the more she realised it encouraged her to grow freely, to do what made her happy, to follow her inner impulses—and above all, to be in harmony with herself.

She loved the feeling of being able to upgrade whatever she chose, wherever she wanted.

In addition to mastering the Lv1 entry-level Hand-Eye Coordination, Xanthia was on the verge of a breakthrough in her voice acting, with only a small amount of progress needed to reach Lv2.

This might have been because she had finally “graduated” from being an intern school broadcaster. Starting next week, she would take on the responsibility of hosting the “Campus Voice” broadcast every Wednesday.

As a full-fledged school broadcaster, she now had certain privileges. First, she could py her favourite songs for the entire school, and, if she was so inclined, even “abuse her power” to py songs that her friends liked.

Furthermore, she had the authority to accept broadcast scripts submitted by students.

Of course, being a school broadcaster didn’t mean she could air whatever she pleased—that would undoubtedly cause chaos.

Xanthia had, in fact, thought about reading ghost stories on the “Campus Voice” broadcast. She would undoubtedly gain fear points from the more timid students, but that would be a bit too disruptive and unwholesome.

The scripts she aired would need to be submitted the day before and undergo a review process.

Typically, the broadcast would feature elegant and well-written prose, including some literature, focusing on emotional and lyrical works, rather than storytelling.

Even if novels were aired, they would have to be well-known cssics with uplifting and positive messages, which effectively shut down Xanthia’s more mischievous inclinations. Nevertheless, she didn’t mind too much—after all, the school’s broadcasting station was simply her training ground for levelling up.

Once her voice acting skills were fully developed, she would have far more opportunities to use her talents, whether as a host or as a voice actress for fun.

In fact, there were many popur and highly-rated radio stations in the world, including te-night shows with a bit more leeway. Her desire to tell ghost stories could one day be satisfied there, where she could collect fear points and indulge her quirky interests.

As for Thessaloniki High School’s “Campus Voice,” it wasn’t particurly well-known. Its most notable moment of fame came when the entire school was publicly reprimanded for the antics of the two "Kings".

That was the moment that left the deepest impression on both faculty and students.

Otherwise, the station simply fulfilled its role, pying three programmes daily: campus news, student submissions, and literary appreciation, with a song request segment to fill the remainder of the time.

The station only broadcasted from Monday to Thursday, leaving Friday to Sunday completely empty. Xanthia’s promotion from “intern” to one of the eight permanent broadcasters proved that her vocal skills had earned the recognition of Rosalinda, the station’s head.

Xanthia would only find out who her male co-host would be when she submitted the broadcasting script next Tuesday.

Normally, the arrangement would be senior paired with junior, but there was also the possibility of two new first-year broadcast members being paired together. Regardless of her partner, Xanthia was confident she would be able to work well with them, a confidence that stemmed from her solid skill set.

As for gathering suitable broadcasting scripts, Xanthia had no difficulty with that. Tasks like this, requiring a good pen, were best left to her summon, Dematero. With his writing skill nearing Lv4, there was no doubt he would excel.

It was Saturday evening, and Xanthia had just finished her evening study session, returned home from school, and was now at her residence. She immediately received a message from Dionysius.

The first thing she noticed was, of course, the news that the piano video had gone viral. After that came some irrelevant details about the art studio, which she felt were not particurly important—after all, she wasn't a professional artist; she was simply using her "Nightmare paintbrush" cheat to get by.

She promptly responded to Dionysius with a message confirming the specific time to visit the art studio. As for lunch, she wouldn't be joining him. She had already made pns with Luciel to "meet the parents"...

Indeed, Luciel's parents were visiting her with a hearty lunch, and Luciel strongly hoped Xanthia would come along to share the meal, wanting to return the favour for the birthday party Xanthia had invited her to.

After much cajoling and persistence from Luciel, Xanthia finally agreed.

Dionysius, upon receiving Xanthia's reply, quickly responded with a thumbs-up emoji.

His main goal was to take his sister to see the art studio while secretly working with Dematero behind the scenes, plotting something significant. Meanwhile, he used the viral video as an excuse to transfer money to his sister.

Although he had initially paid for some promotion to get the video off the ground, its ter success was entirely due to Xanthia's hard skills. Of course, this "hard skill" didn't refer to her piano pying being particurly beautiful—it was about how good she looked. That is to say, she had that kind of "unseen beauty" that made viewers itch with curiosity...

With that in mind, he felt entirely justified in sending her money.

After efficiently communicating with Dionysius, Xanthia wore an expression of suspicion, adopting a scrutinising, almost fault-finding attitude. She opened the Synomilia Videos on her phone and quickly searched for the piano video that had already gone viral.
