TRIAL BY FIRE

As Olivia stepped out of the glowing mineshaft where the brightest star’s light had guided her, the air felt different—thicker and hotter. The cool dampness of the underground was replaced by a scorching wind that carried the scent of burning sulfur. Before her lay a vast volcanic landscape, its heart pulsating with molten rivers and jagged black rocks.

Her eyes were drawn to a crumbled ruin on the cliff’s edge. The remains of an ancient forge stood there, half-buried in ash and surrounded by scorched earth. Something about the place called to her. She cautiously approached, her steps echoing softly against the cracked ground.

  The Magic Table’s Secret

Inside the forge, Olivia brushed off a layer of ash from an old stone pedestal. To her surprise, an ancient parchment lay beneath it. She carefully picked it up and read:

"The Table of Transmutation, crafted with five rare ingredients, grants its wielder the power to enhance both body and weapon."

  The ingredients listed were:

  1. Obsidian – Formed from molten lava.

  2. Wisteria Syrup – A mystical extract that wards off curses.

  3. Lapis Lazuli – A gemstone of wisdom and clarity.

  4. An Enchanted Book – With power bound to its title.

  5. A Gorgon’s Eye – Capable of seeing beyond illusions.

Her pulse quickened. This was what she needed to prepare for the dangers ahead. But the first ingredient—Obsidian—lay deep within the heart of the volcanic base, beyond the treacherous Lava Cave.

  The Volcano’s Wrath

Following the torn map she had pieced together, Olivia trekked toward the base of the volcano. The air grew heavier with each step. The ground cracked beneath her boots, and distant roars echoed from deep within the earth. She could feel the heat radiating from the volcanic pit, where rivers of molten lava carved glowing veins through the rocky ground.

But just as she neared the entrance to the cave, she heard a sinister hiss. Olivia spun around, her instincts sharpening.

A New Threat – The Acid Drakes

Two winged creatures emerged from the smoky haze—Acid Drakes. Their tattered wings flapped as they hovered above the volcanic rocks, their green, venomous saliva dripping onto the ground, sizzling on contact.

Olivia’s heart pounded. She had faced many dangers, but flying enemies added a new challenge. One of the drakes spat a stream of acid toward her. She barely managed to roll out of the way, but the acidic residue splashed onto her armor, corroding the edges.

With no room to retreat, Olivia raised her golden sword. She aimed at the nearest drake, waiting for the right moment. As it swooped down for another attack, she fired an arrow, striking its wing. The creature shrieked and lost control, crashing into the rocks below.

The second drake, enraged, dived toward her, jaws wide open. Olivia stood her ground, sidestepping at the last second and driving her sword through its underbelly. Acid spilled as the drake let out a final screech before collapsing.

  Into the Lava Cave

Sweat dripping down her face, Olivia pressed forward into the heart of the Lava Cave. The heat was nearly unbearable, and the ground beneath her boots radiated an intense warmth.

Further inside, she spotted the molten lake where Obsidian was formed. But before she could move, two giant Lava Creatures emerged. Their bodies pulsed with liquid fire, and their glowing eyes locked onto Olivia.

One hurled a fireball at her. She raised her shield, but the impact sent her skidding backward. The heat was suffocating, and her armor began to heat up.

The Twist – A False Reflection

As Olivia prepared to fight, she noticed something strange. Her reflection in the molten lava didn’t match her movements. While she stood ready to strike, her reflection smiled—a sinister, mocking grin.

“An illusion?” she whispered, but her gut told her it was more than that.

Her reflection began moving on its own, stepping out of the lava like a shadow taking form. It was her—but not her. A Mirror Wraith had been born from her own fears.

While fighting the Lava Creatures, Olivia had to battle her own reflection—an unpredictable, mirrored version of herself that matched her every move. But the wraith wasn’t bound by her limits. It was faster, stronger, and fed off her exhaustion.

As the Lava Creatures advanced and her twisted reflection mirrored her every attack, Olivia realized that fear was giving the wraith strength—just like the Wisteria curse.

  Conquering the Reflection

Closing her eyes for a brief moment, Olivia steadied her breathing. “It’s not real.” She focused her mind, pushing the fear away. The reflection’s grin faltered.

When she opened her eyes, the wraith hesitated. Olivia seized the moment. She plunged her sword through the reflection, shattering it.

With her mind clear, she poured the bucket of water over the molten lava, solidifying it into Obsidian.

  Victory… But Not Yet

Olivia collected the cooled Obsidian and turned to leave. But before she could step away, a distant whisper echoed through the cave.

"You’re one step closer, Olivia... but the curse is always watching."

Her heart pounded, and though her reflection was gone, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something had followed her out of the cave.

One ingredient down… four more to go. But the real danger was just beginning.
