In 1988, in December, Mr. Scott was waiting at King's Cross station to take a train to Birmingham. The train did not arrive due to bad weather because there was heavy snowfall. The next train did not arrive until the next day. He had to find a hotel nearby to stay till tomorrow, he saw a nearby one called "Hampton Hilton." He knocked on the hotel door, which opened on its own, which was very suspicious to him. He went to the reception, which was very dusty and smelled like nobody has cleaned for a long time. He called to ask for the receptionist, and after a few seconds, she arrived. She was very quiet, told me that only one room on the 7th floor was empty even though it seemed no one was staying there. She said that the elevator isn’t working. Scott wasn’t feeling safe. He realized something was off about this hotel so he decided to book a room to stay for a week. Now, here was a new adventure beginning. After all, it was a good decision to stay in this hotel for a week.
The next day, he went downstairs to have a croissant with hot chocolate, but no one was at the reception. He asked the receptionist if the bartender was on vacation or if there was anyone else besides her. She said everyone has left this hotel, the bartender, receptionist and the cleaning maid. Scott said why did everyone left and why are you here, where is the owner of this hotel. She replied there is a rumour about a spirit called the shiner, everyone who looks into a mirror dies. Scott thought it was time to dig in deeper into this shiner case. He left the hotel and went downtown to do research on the shiner, but the name was very unknown, and no one knew who the shiner was. After several attempts, he thought that maybe the name was really odd and the shiner was just a myth.
When he returned to the hotel, he saw the woman crying. He asked her what had happened, and she said it that one more guest who reserved a room wasn’t found again. She told Scott to leave the hotel immediately or else you will die. She packed her things up left the haunted hotel. He knew he had to act very quickly, so without wasting time, he told her to don’t worry. He went straight to his mentor. Luckily, his mentor lived just a few miles away from Birmingham. It was the great Detective Carter. It was the famous 23 Holloway Crescent. He knocked on the door. It was his servant, Marie Antoine. She asked who it was, and he said, "It's Adam Scott, Mr. Carter’s friend." "Oh! Hello, Mr. Scott. It's been a while since you came here. How can I help you?" he asked. Scott replied, "I want to speak with Mr. Carter, is he here?" She said, "He’s not here. He went to see his friend Mr. Kane." "Oh, okay, can you please tell him that he needs to meet me at 48 Ashford Grove?" he asked. "But why do you want to meet him?" she asked. "Well, it's a long story," Scott said. He explained everything to her. After listening, she said, "Really? The shiner? Maybe it could be Professor Raynard who can help you. I’ll let you know Mr. Scott." "Okay, thank you. Goodbye." said Scott.
