Kazuki walked through the lively streets of the city, clutching a small pouch filled with gold coins given to him by the gods. His old clothes were tattered and worn from the journey, and now that he was beginning a new chapter of his life, he wanted to look the part.
He stopped in front of a modest **clothing shop**, its windows displaying a variety of tunics, cloaks, and boots. A small bell chimed as he stepped inside.
The shopkeeper, an elderly man with a friendly smile, greeted him. “Looking for something specific, young man?”
Kazuki nodded. “Something durable for travel. Preferably in black.”
With a few helpful suggestions from the shopkeeper, Kazuki picked out a black full-sleeved jacket, a white t-shirt, and black trousers. He paid using a few of the gold coins and changed into his new clothes in a small fitting room.
As he stepped out, he caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror. The dark outfit contrasted against his pale skin and white hair, making his red eyes stand out even more. He looked… sharp. Ready.
With his new outfit, he made his way to the massive Adventurers’ Guild, watching as swordsmen, archers, and mages moved in and out of the grand building. The guild was lively, filled with the chatter of adventurers exchanging battle stories, accepting quests, and celebrating victories.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped inside.
The guild hall was a large open space, with a bar and restaurant on one side, quest boards lining the walls, and a long **reception desk** at the far end where adventurers formed lines to register or report their quests.
As Kazuki approached the desk, he noticed two kids his age ahead of him.
“I can’t believe we finally made it to the guild, Garron!” a girl’s excited voice whispered.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
“I told you we would, Elara. Now we just need to pass registration,” the boy replied with a grin.
Kazuki glanced over. The girl, Elara, had long blond hair and wore a simple white robe, a telltale sign of a healer. Her blue eyes sparkled with nervousness. The boy, **Garron**, had messy dark red hair and carried a **cheap iron sword** at his side. He looked **determined but inexperienced**.
They seemed new to this, just like him.
The **receptionist**—a kind-looking woman with red hair tied in a bun and gentle eyes—greeted them with a warm smile.
“Welcome to the Adventurers’ Guild! Are you here to register?” she asked kindly.
Elara hesitated, but Garron spoke up confidently. “Yes! We’d like to become adventurers!”
The receptionist chuckled. “That’s wonderful! What are your names?”
“I’m Garron, and this is Elara,” he said proudly.
The receptionist nodded. “A healer and a swordsman—great combination! Let’s get you started.”
She handed them guild registration forms, guiding them patiently as they filled in their details.
“Since you’re beginners, you’ll start at **G-rank**, the lowest rank,” she explained. “You’ll need to complete five quests before applying for a rank-up to F. Be careful, okay? Adventuring can be dangerous.”
Elara swallowed hard. “D-Dangerous?”
The receptionist gave her a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry! If you work as a team and **stay cautious, you’ll be fine**. Start with easy quests, and if you need advice, don’t hesitate to ask.”
Elara still looked nervous, but she nodded. Garron, however, was practically bouncing with excitement.
Once their registration was complete, Kazuki stepped forward.
“Hello there!” the receptionist greeted him kindly. “Are you here to register too?”
“Yes,” Kazuki said, nodding.
“Great! What’s your name?”
“Kazuki,” he answered.
She tilted her head slightly. “Just Kazuki?”
He hesitated before nodding again. “Yeah, just Kazuki.”
The receptionist didn’t press him for more. Instead, she smiled and handed him a form. “Alright, Kazuki. Fill this out, and I’ll get you registered.”
Kazuki wrote down his details. When he reached weapon of choice, he put dagger. For magic affinity, he hesitated but left it blank.
The receptionist glanced over his form and nodded. “All set! You’re now a G-rank adventurer. Here’s your guild card don’t lose it!”
She handed him a small metal card with his name and rank engraved on it.
“Thanks,” Kazuki said.
The receptionist gave him an encouraging look. “Welcome to the guild, Kazuki! I know adventuring can seem overwhelming at first, but if you ever need advice, just ask. Stay safe, and good luck on your journey!”
Kazuki gave a small smile. He hadn’t expected kindness after all, most people in this world had been either **cruel or indifferent** to him so far.
Just as he turned away, **Garron and Elara were waiting for him nearby.**
“Hey! You’re new too, right?” Garron grinned. “I’m Garron, and this is Elara. We just registered as well.”
Elara fidgeted nervously. “A-Are you taking quests alone?”
Kazuki considered it. He had **always been alone**. But these two… something about them felt **different**.
“I suppose we could team up,” Kazuki said, crossing his arms.
Garron beamed. “Really? That’d be awesome!”
Elara still seemed nervous, but she nodded. “It’s safer to work in a party…”
Kazuki chuckled to himself. He had **always dreamed of forming an adventurer party** like in the isekai stories he read back on Earth.
Maybe this wasn’t such a bad idea.
“Alright,” Kazuki said. “Let’s go accept our first quest.”
