Within the Quantum Realm

  The Quantum Ruler taps the armrest of his throne as he watches his granddaughter going from one hidden area to another within this Tier 5 dungeon of the System’s creation. And while he does that, he lets the other quantum beings all kneel down in front of him within his throne room. Every last one of the quantum beings without any roles.

  With their overall number totaling almost sixty.

  Meanwhile the quantum beings in question all watch the screen with vivid interest as well.

  But not just that. He can also see the fear in their eyes.

  Fear of the Quantum Reaper. The one quantum being with the role specifically meant to slay other quantum beings, amongst other things.

  Their reaper.

  Except for a precious few quantum beings in the room who don’t seem to fear her. Each of whom share something in common.

  Seated at the front of the other quantum beings, the five currently chosen Successors all watch the screen with various different reactions.

  The Successor of the Archon watches with interest on her face as if studying a book. But the Ruler had already expected that beforehand, since he knows she’s already met with his granddaughter in person before.

  After her is the Successor of the Quantum Vanguard. And just at a glance the Ruler can tell the boy is thinking about how he would go fighting the Quantum Reaper.

  Which also doesn’t surprise him, since that’s all the Successor seems to be able to think about.

  Fighting.

  Then there’s the Successor to the Quantum Creator, who is just blankly staring at the screen without showing any indication about how he’s feeling. Which is also expected, since he never shows how he’s feeling.

  The Ruler glances at the Builder and Cleaner’s Successors, only to feel a slight headache coming as he does so. Because the Builder’s Successor – who is still masquerading as a little girl – is hopping around bothering the other quantum beings and distracting them without a care in the world. Meanwhile the Cleaner’s Successor is playing one of those video games from the mortal realm and isn’t even paying attention to the screen.

  All of the Successors have a lot more purple in their hair than the other quantum beings behind them, showing their talent with quantum energy along with their proximity towards the roles they are going to succeed. But despite that, not a single one has any hints of black in their hair. Unlike the Quantum Beings with roles.

  Which means they’re still far from Succeeding their predecessors.

  “You have all seen the Quantum Reaper now, so be mindful should you run into her,” the Quantum Ruler declares, his voice echoing through the chamber. “For she has just as much authority as I do.”

  His words send trembles through the gathered quantum beings, but he doesn’t pay them any more mind as he waves his hand, sending them all away.

  The only reason he gathered them was to see what their responses would be to seeing the Reaper, and he’s accomplished that. So there’s no more reason to see them.

  He turns his attention back to the screen in front of him as his granddaughter finds another item hidden away within the dungeon. But his thoughts are anywhere but the item.

  Instead they focus on the words the devourer said to her daughter.

  I wonder how the universe will react when that child reaches Ascendant Tier?

  He stares at the screen for several more seconds before finally closing it.

  I won’t know until it happens. For now it’s best to monitor the universe’s core.

  There sure are a lot of hidden areas in this trench. Probably because not many people are willing to go down here to search. Nor do they have the mini map like I do.

  And not everyone is able to see in the dark either.

  So I guess I’m perfectly fit for this place.

  On another note, I kind of wish I would get better loot. Because the loot I’ve gotten so far isn’t as good as it was earlier.

  Which is disappointing. But whatever.

  At least I’m leveling up.

  Just from the mini bosses I’ve run into from time to time in the hidden areas, along with some other bosses down there, I’ve managed to get to level 1602. Which is quite a bit higher than the bosses of the other worlds. But probably still lower than the boss of this world.

  On the note of the boss, I still haven’t seen it. At all. I’ve only heard the thing.

  It’s not exactly hard to hear after all. Not when I could hear its roar clear from outside of the planet.

  But no matter how far I go down the trench I just can’t seem to find it.

  I don’t even know what the boss is, much less what its level is…

  Although I do at least know it’s something that roars. So there’s that.

  I frown as I continue teleporting and falling down the trench. A mixture of the two just to make sure I don’t waste too much energy going down. And from time to time I make sure to stop in crevasses along the way to recover my energy and to hunt.

  There doesn’t seem to be any monsters in the trench itself though. Which is bizarre.

  It’s like they’re all avoiding the trench and staying in the crevasses and caves on the sides that connect to the trench.

  I continue pondering over this for nearly an hour before something happens during one of my treks into a cave system.

  The ground begins to tremble, followed by an incredibly loud roar that echoes across everything here, and a bright flash of light that shines straight from the entrance. And when I go to look at what it is, I find myself shocked at the sight of some massive and bright pillar of pale blue light shooting up through the trench and ignoring the caves and crevasses.

  My jaw drops open at the sight, and the pillar of light doesn’t fade for another entire minute.

  But when it does fade, revealing the trench below, I find something that actually sends a bit of a shiver down my spine.

  Two glowing blue eyes shining in the dark of the trench down below.

  Massive, slit blue eyes to be exact.

  Then the eyes close, and the trench is left in silence once more.

  Huh.

  Guess I found the boss.
