Location: Underwater. Coral Reef Adjacent. Still. Woke up to sunlight dappling through the water onto the ceiling. Objectively quite beautiful. Subjectively, mildly annoying when you know it's filtering through about fifty feet of brine and several layers of hastily re-deployed aquatic wards.
Yes, the wards are up. Spent most of yesterday reinforcing the hull enchantments (again) and setting the standard 'Keep Out Water, Curious Krakens, and Anything Else With Too Many Tentacles' matrix. It’s getting depressingly routine. Have specific warding schemas saved on mnemonic crystals now for 'Airborne', 'Submerged - Fresh Water', 'Submerged - Salt Water', 'Volcanic/High Temperature', 'Frozen Hellscape', and 'Oh Gods Not The Singing Jell-O Dimension Again'. Saves time, if nothing else.
Update on the Hair vs Pufferfish situation: One mildly startled, puffed-up fish later, I think the Hair has learned that pointy things swimming near the window are not, in fact, potential playmates or sources of static electricity. It spent the rest of yesterday coiled rather sullenly under the desk, occasionally emitting what I can only describe as disgruntled energy pulses. Served it right.
Spent most of this morning just… watching the reef outside the main parlor window. Might as well try and get something useful out of this aquatic detour. The biodiversity here is actually impressive. Identified three types of potentially useful spell-reagent coral just from my armchair: Brain Coral Minor (good for memory aids, apparently), Sunburst Polyp (mildly explosive when dried, handle with care), and that vibrant blue staghorn stuff… forget the name, but I think it’s used in truth serums. Have to check my older notes. Also saw a school of those iridescent Scalefin fish – their powdered scales are key for decent illusion work.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
The Hair, having recovered from its pufferfish-induced sulk, decided to 'help' my observations by repeatedly tapping specific points on the windowpane whenever a particularly colourful Nudibranch went past. Thanks, Captain Obvious. Yes, I see the bright pink and yellow sea slug. No, I do not need you to highlight its passage like it's some kind of vital celestial event. Its slime trail is probably useless, even for basic lubrication charms. Focus on the useful stuff, you overgrown attention-seeker.
It’s always like this. Adapt, observe, identify resources, deploy relevant wards… only for the house to pick up stakes five days later and dump us somewhere completely different, rendering all the location-specific knowledge useless. Mountains next? Desert? Back to floating aimlessly? Who the fuck knows. Just have to keep patching the wards, brewing the tea, and trying not to get too invested in the local scenery.
Right. Enough contemplative gazing at fish. Time to see if the damp has reached the library again, and maybe attempt that improved night-vision draught now I know where some Scalefin might be found, should I ever develop deep-sea diving capabilities or bribe a passing Merrow. Optimism! Or something like it.
