New Beginnings

Zane, a college student with plenty of free time, was bored to nothingness. In his room, he stared at the ceiling. And how long had he been staring? Only God knew, he was zoning out. The reason he had so much free time was simple, he was too good at every subject. His classmates even nicknamed him "Too Smart for School," while his professors called him "Professor Yawn."

  Knock knock [SFX]

Zane's door creaked open, and a petite figure came into view. "Oi, bored genius, how long are you gonna stare at the ceiling?" Yes, that was Zane's sister. "And how long are you gonna just lie there?" He looked at her, but in truth, his mind was elsewhere.

"Here, catch!" She tossed a medium-sized box at him, far too heavy for someone lying down to catch properly.

Zane's eyes flew wide open as he scrambled to sit up and catch the box, but alas, it slipped past his hands, bounced off the bed, and thudded onto the floor. "Hahaha!" His sister burst out laughing, pointing at him before darting out and slamming the door shut. Her fading footsteps echoed in the hall as she made her escape.

"..." Zane stood there, speechless, staring at the door with his mouth hanging open. After a moment, he shifted his gaze to the box, only to spot a VR headset lying quietly beside it. "......" He was even more speechless now. Who would throw a priceless gadget to someone so casually?! Zane screamed inside his head.

He reached into the box, opened the cover, and found a letter tucked inside. Unfolding it, he saw it was handwritten by his father:

Son, your mother and I have decided to drop you out since you're too good at everything. You even beat five grandmasters in martial arts. So, we bought you a VR headset containing the famous game in the gaming community. We hope you have fun. Love, Mom and Dad.

"So they're just gonna drop me out because they think i'm too good with everything?" Zane massaged his temples as he pondered what to do. "A game, huh?" he grabbed the headset and inspected it while sitting in the floor. The sleek, futuristic design looked intimidating, he ran his fingers over the smooth surface, wondering what kind of game it could be. With a shrug, he decided there was only one way to find out. Zane stood up and lay downed on his bed as he slipped the headset on. The world around him faded, replaced by a blinding light.

He found himself floating in a empty white expanse. A text appeared before him:
