The broken Blade

A young girl, ambition burning in her eyes, journeyed from a neighboring village. Dust clung to her worn clothes, but her stride was steady. Determined. She asked questions at every turn, looking for a certain man—a legend whispered in stories and praised in dying breaths.

As she reached the quiet village nestled between the hills, her gaze scanned the streets until it landed on a swordsmith. His face was blank, distant, his beard speckled with iron filings as he honed yet another blade. A man trying to disappear into the rhythm of normalcy.

  Her breath caught.

“Found him,” she whispered, relief washing over her.

She approached The sword smith and said "Are you the legendary hero Adam, Teach me how to wield a sword".

"No I am no swordsman. I am just a craftsman who crafts swords." He replied

The girl unsatisfied with his response pushed a little trying to make him agree, "I know its you. You can't lie to my face."

“Stop wasting my time, girl. I already told you—I’ll never pick up a sword again. Sorry. Find someone else,” the man said coldly.

“I’m not just a random girl. My name is Sarrah, and I have a younger brother to protect,” she said, standing her ground. “You’re Adam—the one who slayed dozens of raiders to protect innocent lives. Why can’t you teach me to do the same?”

Adam looked up, eyes tired. There’s a fire in her eyes... the same fire I once had.

“Look, kid,” he spoke, “I’ve got nothing to teach you. I’m just an ordinary swordsmith. I’m no legend.”

“No, don’t hide it,” Sarrah pressed. “A few years back, raiders attacked my village. My brother was about to be cut down. I jumped in front of him without thinking. And then… you came. Like a hero from the old tales. You saved my brother. I know it was you.”

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

She clenched her fists. “You and your team saved us. Now you’re hiding here. But who’s going to protect us now? Teach me. I want to follow the legacy you left behind.”

“Oh yeah. A hero,” Adam said, voice rising. “Look around, kid. That ‘hero’ died on the battlefield with his comrades. I’m just a broken shell now. If you learn from me, you’ll end up just like me—lost. Crushed.”

Suddenly, screams rang out in the village. Chaos echoed.

Adam turned slowly as a raider approached, but he didn’t move. He stood still, resigned, almost ready to join his fallen brothers.

Before he could act, Sarrah grabbed one of the swords from his rack, dashed forward, and sliced at the raider’s hand, driving him back.

Adam’s eyes widened. His jaw dropped.

Those moves... you move like Ibrahim...

Even though her stance wasn’t perfect, something about it hit him deep—like a ghost from the past.

“Hey, kid… where did you learn that? Who taught you that?” he asked, stunned.

“Dad did. It’s our family's sword style,” she said. “I could never perfect it… but he always said one day I will. That’s one of the reasons I came. He once told me that if something ever happened to him, you would be the guiding light for me. Just like you were to him in his dark times.”

Adam felt his chest tighten. His vision blurred.

It was me who got captured. Me who was weak... Why did he give his life to save mine? He had a family to protect. Why him? Why not me?

He collapsed to his knees, breaking down.

Sarrah stepped forward, gently but firmly. “He did save his family. Because you were his family too. Don’t you remember his words? You were the brother he never asked for, but the one he was glad to have.”

  Silence.

Adam wiped his eyes, slowly regaining composure. “Look, kid… I don’t know how I could ever teach you. I’m not as good as your father. I’m the reason he’s gone.”

“You’re right,” she said. “You’re not as good as him. But he once said you had a spark that made you stronger. That’s what I need. Please, Uncle. For my father. Teach me.”

  Adam stood.

“Fine. But I won’t go easy on you just because you’re his daughter.”

“I don’t want you to,” Sarrah replied, a faint smile breaking through her tears.

"Get a good rest tonight, Tomorrow 1 hour before sunrise be prepared it wont be easy" Adam said.

As Adam starts walking away she takes a bow "Thank you master Adam" She say in a soft tone.
