Chapter 26. Elima Autumn I

Nefer opened the door and came to the ward where Cesare was. He left the Hazaro House early in the morning and went straight back to the seminary, with no intention of returning to the Hazaro House.

Cesare seemed to wake up and leaned back on the pillow. Seeing him coming, he asked, "You're here?"

Nefere nodded, crossed his arms and looked at Cesare, "How are you today?"

"It's up to you to decide whether it's okay or not. I think I'm fine, but you give me all kinds of medicine every day." Cesare smiled bitterly, "Did Yavni's wedding go well?"

  "Very good." Nefert said concisely.

Cesare raised an eyebrow. "Wasn't there a bloodbath?"

Nefert seemed unwilling to say more, "She is very worried about you." The "she" he was referring to was naturally Melanie.

Cesare was silent for a while. "He's not dead yet, don't worry."

"I'm using the old method to help you suppress the poison in your body, but this is not a long-term solution." Nefert said, "I have an idea, but it's a bit challenging."

Cesare chuckled. "When did you start being so fussy?"

"I am asking for your opinion. After all, this matter has the greatest bearing on you. And if you agree, my chances of success in persuading the Pope will be greater." Nefert said seriously.

"What method?" Cesare looked at Nefereil.

"The only way to find the antidote is to go to the Whispering Forest." Nephiel had found relevant information in ancient books in the past few days, but all the solutions pointed to a kind of grass on the streamside of the Whispering Forest. Since the road to Longgor was blocked, he had only this way to take a risk.

Cesare looked at his half-brother's face and smiled playfully, "You're going to die."

Nefer pushed up his glasses and said, "If you can win, send the Wind Wolf Squad to join me. I think we have a good chance of winning."

"How confident are you that the herb can remove the poison from my body?" Cesare asked again, "How long can I hold on now?"

Nefer shook his head. “I don’t know, but an answer is better than no answer.”

"I'll go with you," Cesare said, his tone brooking no argument.

Bergoli IV rejected Cesare's proposal outright, saying that he was playing with his life.

"Your Holiness," Cesare knelt on one knee, "Please allow me to go to the Dark Whisper City with Master Nefertius."

"You just slaughtered all their elite troops, and now you are running into their territory." The Pope looked at his son, "Duke Lorenzo, is this bold or reckless?"

"The dragons no longer have any ability to counterattack, so I think now is the best time to negotiate with them." Cesare said honestly, "Besides, do you think there is anyone more suitable for this role besides me?" This remark caused a whisper among the surrounding bishops, this arrogant boy.

Bergoli IV looked at his son. Cesare's proposal was indeed an attractive one. He certainly believed that Cesare could gain more benefits for Elima in this negotiation - however, his current physical condition worried the Pope, and he needed to consider the pros and cons.

  "Your Holiness!"

Before Bergoli IV could speak, he suddenly saw the servant walk in from outside the hall. He was a little unhappy, "What's the matter?"

"Reporting to His Holiness the Pope, a group of members of the Uliana Merchants' Union are demonstrating on St. Mary's Avenue, demanding a retrial of the Full Moon Massacre. Now they are about to come to the Vatican—"

The Pope raised an eyebrow, "Full Moon Massacre? Wasn't it closed?"

"The leading Uliana merchants said they found new clues, and all this is actually a conspiracy from the Eastern Continent." said the attendant.

"The Eastern Continent?" The Pope frowned. "Why is there still a story about the Eastern Continent?" He looked at Cesare. "Duke Lorenzo, the evidence of the Full Moon Massacre was found by your men. Do you have anything to say about this?"

Cesare lowered his head and said, "When the Knights found the merchants of Uliana, they were already dead. We did not find any more clues in the shops of those merchants."

"Send someone to find out what's going on," the Pope told Cesare. "As for the peace talks in the City of Whispering Darkness..." He glanced at the bishops and nobles in the Vatican who were all preoccupied with their own concerns. "Let Duke Hazaro lead the team."

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

Damis Hasaro has always been popular among the nobles, but naturally there are people who talk about his slickness and cowardice behind his back. He knows this very well, but for a man who has neither much political skills nor military power, slickness and cowardice are just like a protective umbrella that protects this man over fifty.

He met Duke Lorenzo in the corridor of the Pope's Hall. From a blood relationship perspective, he was the young man's uncle. It was normal for him to go to the Dark Language City to negotiate for his nephew, but Duke Hazaro was a little hesitant.

The other party was a dragon clan. Even though Cesare had defeated the dragon clan in the Battle of the Great Bear Pool, the other party was a dragon clan. Duke Hazaro felt that it was somewhat dangerous for him to lead his team to the other party's territory.

"Uncle." Cesare saw Damis and bowed respectfully.

"Cesare, stop it." Duke Hazaro quickly helped Cesare up. His face, which was not too weathered by age, looked at Cesare with a little melancholy. "I heard from Nefertius that the poison in your body has been suppressed, right?"

"It's suppressed for the time being," Cesare looked at his uncle. He never expected that the Pope would send Duke Hazaro. He was weak in character and not suitable for such a tit-for-tat negotiation. "I'm sorry, uncle, I didn't expect His Holiness the Pope to ask you to go to the City of Whispering Darkness... I didn't think it through."

Damis patted Cesare's shoulder gently. "Don't say that. This is a good thing. I will try my best for both Elima and you."

Lonnie, the captain of the Thunder Wolf Squad, was ordered to bring the merchants in Uliana who were the leaders of the riot back to the Knights' headquarters. When he saw the evidence presented by the other party, he smiled bitterly and said to Sander, "Rather than saying it is a conspiracy from the Eastern Continent, it's more like they are dissatisfied with Elima's recent policies and started to cause trouble."

The war in the north calmed down, and Sander led the Silver Wolves back to Elima. He rarely had such a free time. "Uliana? Those merchants are the most cunning people in the entire continent."

"How is the Knight Commander now?" Lonnie asked Sander.

"Not very well. He lay down again after coming back from the Pope's Hall." Sander sighed, "Fortunately the Pope didn't let him go to the Secret Whisper City. Our Knight Commander really doesn't take himself seriously."

"Should I give him these things in my hand?" Lonnie hesitated. "Although they are not substantial evidence, it is better to let him take a look."

Xander glanced at Lonnie and said, "What's the use of telling me? Then go ahead."

Lonnie shook his head. "Ever since Adjutant Yang Liu was dealt with, it's really..." He seemed to remember something and suddenly asked Sander, "Do you know what Adjutant Yang Liu has been doing recently?"

"I don't know." Sander replied, "It seems to have been dealt with secretly, and there is not much news in the Vatican."

  "What a shame..." Lonnie sighed.

“Dark Language City?” Yang Liu raised her head in astonishment. “He wants to go to Dark Language City? But he was so deeply poisoned, how could he go to Dark Language City?”

Jia Lu looked at the woman, and before he finished speaking, she hurriedly argued. He really didn't know if this woman had a masochistic tendency. Her current situation was all thanks to Cesare. How could she still be so devoted to him?

"Can you wait for me to finish?" He pushed the beef onto the woman's plate. "...The Pope did not agree and sent Duke Hazaro to the City of Darkness for negotiations. As for your Prince Cesare, don't worry, he is safe."

Yang Liu gave Jia Lu a fierce look, "Is there any progress in treating the poison in his body?"

"No." Jia Lu rejected it outright.

It was an ordinary autumn day in Elima. He suddenly wanted to have lunch with this woman, but all she talked about was Cesare.

"The people at the seminary said before that they could only suppress it with drugs but could not eradicate it," Yang Liu muttered while eating beef, "It's been so long, what on earth are those people doing?"

"You guys can't cure the dragon people's poisonous light." Jia Lu said slowly, "You underestimate the dragon people too much."

Yang Liu stared at him, "Do you know something?"

Jia Lu looked at Yang Liu with interest. "Don't try to get words out of me, Miss Yang Liu." He waved his fork. "I'm not one of those bishops."

Yang Liu's fair face turned red, she lowered her head, and even had tears in the corners of her eyes.

"What did I say wrong?" Jia Lu wondered. Women's minds are really hard to understand.

Yang Liu knew that he was laughing at her, and she even looked down on herself. Those days of enjoying pleasure under those greasy men were simply her nightmare, but she had promised Cesare that she would be his eyes, the deepest chess piece he buried in this corrupt national system...

"Oh my god, are you still crying?" Jia Lu reached out and grabbed Yang Liu's chin, "What did I say? Is it necessary for you to cry?"

Yang Liu slapped Jia Lu's hand away and said, "I'm warning you, stay away from me." Her voice was cold, without any tenderness.

"Stay away from you?" The Somile man looked at Yang Liu with a smile, "When you were fucked to the point where you couldn't walk, didn't I carry you to the room?" The woman's stubborn look was really interesting, Jia Lu thought. He held his chin and looked up at Yang Liu. The fork in his hand picked up a small potato, and he threw it into his mouth, chewing it without any image.

Yang Liu was so angry that she turned away. What the man said was true. What else could she do? In this room, besides this man, who else could she turn to for help?

"Your Knight Commander won't die for the time being." Jia Lu said slowly, "I've seen that kind of poison before. It's a chronic poison that will damage the opponent's body functions bit by bit. Although it's difficult to cure, it won't kill him for a while."

Yang Liu looked at Jia Lu, "Where have you seen him before?"

Jia Lu spread his hands, "We are pirates, we have seen everything." He pointed at Yang Liu with his fork, "If you want to know more about Geng Duo, sit down and eat the food on your plate."

Even though Yang Liu was angry, she could only listen to Jia Lu. She looked at the man with some disgust as he raised the glass of red wine and gulped it down. The scar on his face looked extremely hideous. "Were you a pirate before?"

"Haha, we Somile people are either born on a boat or die on a boat." Jia Lu was a little tipsy on this autumn afternoon.

"Where have you seen that kind of poison?" Yang Liu asked.

Jia Lu raised his eyes and said, "Eat." He continued to point at the beef on the plate with his fork.

Yang Liu picked up the knife and fork and cut the beef angrily. "I ate it."

"An important person will come tonight. It will be up to you then, Miss Yang Liu." Jia Lu changed the subject.

"You——" Yang Liu was a little anxious.

"Would you like some wine?" Jia Lu poured the red wine in his glass into Yang Liu's glass. "The bishops who came last time said they liked your wildness after drinking."

Yang Liu was sure that this man would not say anything else, so she raised her glass angrily and drank the red wine in it.
