  Class: ?

The words bizarrely hung as a translucent blue letter. Elend blinked, its still there. He shook his head, and the blue words followed, slightly bouncing up and down.

So this is the system, Elend marveled. It appears simple enough. Yet, it still brings an unexplainable sense of wonder to him.

Is he counted as a Hunter now?. There's much debate about whether someone is a Hunter or not. Some argue, being awakened makes you a Hunter. Some say you need to register with the Hunter Guild first.

Awakened.. He is manage to awaken.

In the status, the one that's stood out the most is actually HP. If this goes to zero, will he really die?.

His class is shown as a question mark. Killing one monster is not enough. He has read, class will eventually appear. But it's different for each person; what's important is to keep killing monsters. And to make sure you are not handheld too much. The system will know and give you crappy class

I must have a good start, right? He thought to himself.

The lizard is injured, but it still could fight well. He glanced back at the bloodied body, spraying red across the back of the throne.

  Did I really do that?

"Let's get to testing," He mumbled. Lifting the morning star, it was easier., Elend marveled. But he still felt the weight of the morning star straining his muscles. He should stick with a lighter weapon.

"All right," Elend grunted excitedly. Raising the morning star high. Elend felt it weigh rippling pressure across his arms.

"Heavy Strike!" He screams. Bringing the morning star down.

The chair croaked as the morning star destroyed it.

  Mana : 10/10.

What? Full mana? Elend blushed. Shouting it out loud is not how to use it? Damn all of those Yellah thread. He should have known it's made by a bunch of chuuni.

Groaning, he lifted it up again. This time, focusing on the word Heavy Strike inside his head. Shaping it across the weapon.

  (Heavy Strike)

A bluish shimmer spun around the morning star. Elend's eyes widen as the steel point glows shining blue.

He slammed it down on the throne.

  CRACK!

A great sound of explosion boomed through the room. The wind swirled in a spiral, returning to blow his hair back.

Elend opened his eye, blinking away the dust.

"Woah," He marveled at the throne. You could no longer sit on it, unless you want to be stabbed through a jagged point.

  (Flurry Jab)

He focused on his other skill, holding the morning star up. Nothing happened; the blue swirl of power did not come.

“Why is it not working?” He muttered to himself, Is this too heavy?

"Ah," He stammered. Forgetting about the lizard. Its body was bashed inside.

Muttering a quick apology, he whipped out his knife.

Steel points toward the red-draped chair.

Hmm, let's try the left hand.

  (Flurry Jab)

A bluish gleam shimmers on it.

His left hand moved in a second. Then it's over. Elend blinked, examining the chair. Five stabs went through the chair completely.

  "Woah.." He mutters.

Does Heavy Strike work with the knife though?

  (Heavy Strike)

His kitchen knife glowed blue. Elen slash it vertically across the chair. With a satisfying rip, its topside fell backward into two pieces.

  Mana: (3/10)

Maybe he should focus on the knife? Class can be decided by the weapon you used, although there’s no guarantee. After all, if that were the case, Mage class is not going to exist.

Thinking it further, he has decided to change his main weapon. It's an easy instant decision. Nothing against the morning star at all. But, being a tanker class does not appeal to him. He would rather have someone else take damage for him. Besides, with heavy strike, he could deal the same devastating damage.

Elend looked at the morning star, he brought his bag around. And sigh in relief, it can fit.

Although he has to remove some food. Well, he probably overprepared anyway. Removing some food, he put the morning star, the spiky head first, into the bag. He positioned it surrounded by biscuits to protect the bag as much as possible.

"Now then," he muttered after waiting for his mana to regenerate, looking around. There's a door. The only one in the room. With a knife in his right hand. Elend kicks it open.

A carpeted hallway greeted him, and windowless wall led to a bunch of doors about meters apart.

Elend closed the door, one way led to a dead end. The other curved. He steps carefully. Peeking over.

  A monster. Another lizard.

  (Lizardos Lvl 5)

  That is nice to know.

He debates whether he should take it or not. It's back toward him. A shimmering eagerness burns inside him.

  I want to do it.

Elend steps closer. Breath drawn as faintly as possible. His footsteps glide silently against the carpet.

The Lizardos carry a long spear. It's longer than the one he has taken down. The spear was held with what Elend guessed was a spear stance.

Is there a Hunter beyond him?

The Lizardos is too big and bulky for him to see. The hallway width is almost covered by it.

"Keep your shield up!" A voice shouted.

Elend smiled; he could take the kill for himself.

He grunted as the Lizardos stepped forward to the other Hunter. Clang of steel ring through the hallway.

"Shit! He's breaking the shield!" Another voice screamed.

"It's steel shield, it's not going to be broken! Keep holding it up.. Damnit, the arrow just bounced back!".

Elend strides forward, not bothering to mask his step anymore. The clang of steel will do that.

He examines as the Lizardos flex it's muscled body. Two-handed thrust jab viscerally. Elend knew he could get knocked out if his head were in the wrong place when the Lizardos pulled its spear back.

As he was about to use Flurry Jab. He hesitated, it's back completely armoured with those green scales.

Can he focus all Flurry Strike on one point? Should have tested that.

  "It's breaking!" A voice wailed.

  (Flurry Jab)

Blue glimmer of five instantaneous jabs, rip into the Lizardos' back.

  Mana: 7/10

The monster screamed in pain, its yellow eyes turned glaring at him.

It sends a spike of fear inside him.

Yet, Elend's mind worked before his fear. His body followed.

  (Flurry Jab)

Another five strikes struck in less than a second.

  Mana: 4/10

Five blood points sprouted from the Lizardos.

It let go of its spear. A scaly hand formed into a jagged fist went flying to Elend.

He turns his back, and sharp, piercing pain seeps into him.

Elend went down, his back hot with a sharp ache. He quickly stood, looking at the Lizardos.

It roared in pain. Its hand is bleeding.

Elend laughed. The Lizard hit straight into the Morning Star.

  HP: 78/100

He winced. His bag stuck to him. Swinging it out, Elend forcefully removes it. Red writhing pain made him stagger.

  HP: 62/100.

Huffing like a dying animal. Elend staggered up. He briefly looked at the morning star lying on the carpet. He could have just used it earlier.

He shook his head. No need to think about it now.

  (Heavy Strike)

Blur shimmer of power swirls around his knife. He held it on his right, holding it sideways.

He decided to count on Heavy Strike. Only two times remaining.

The Lizardos took a step back. In motion, to bring his spear toward Elend.

He charged forward, catching it right in motion.

Elend stepped forward, knife piercing searing deep inside its middle. He twisted the knife.

The Lizardos spat a mouthful of blood. Pulling it out. The creature stumbled on one knee.

Elend could see its eye. How fear slowly creeps inside. Not looking like a monster now.

Bringing his knife in reverse grip, (Heavy Strike) Shimmering blue gleam swirl, Elend impaled it sideways into the Lizardos's head.

  BOOM!

Lizardo's head smashed into the wall. Knife skewered inside.

Elend drew it out. Letting the body feel lifeless.

  Mana 0/10.

The Hunter smiled. "That was scary," he muttered, wiping his bloody kitchen knife.

He took a deep breath, pulse of euphoria still pounding in his veins. His heart beat surged faster and faster.

Elend fell to one knee. The world seems spinning in his vision, a hazy spot of black blurred.

  "Hey! Are you good?"

  HP: 140/140.

"I'm fine," Elend muttered as he looked at his HP. Blinking away the dark spot, he stood woozily. Level up healed his HP.

He saw a man, probably around his age. Wearing a steel shield that looks about to crumble. And a couple of swords sheathed.

The other kneels before him. Body lean and wiry. He carries a bow and a short dagger.

"My name is Ron." The bowman said. "This bulk name is Tower."

"My name is Elend," He said.

"We owe you one, man." Tower steps forward. His face was coiled with exhaustion. Sweat drenched his hair. "We could really have died back there," Elend could hear the relief in his voice.

"We tried to hold that monster with the shield while I tried to shoot it," Ron mumbled. "The arrow just bounced off." he gripped the bow tightly.

"You don't have any skill yet?" Elend probed.

"Skill? No, of course not. We haven't awakened," Ron replied.

"How do you survive the first monster then?"

"What are you talking about?" Tower tilted his head. "The Knight took care of them before we even went in."

"Yeah, those Lizard bodies sprawled everywhere back on the entrance," Ron added. “At first at least”

"Entrance?" Elend did not consider it. It's strange he suddenly appeared in a room instead of the entrance in the first place.

Is it the effect of the Red Portal?

"What happened to do portal? To the others?"

"It just suddenly gone. Blink out existence," Tower shrugged. His steel breastplate clinked as he did that.

"We were suddenly attacked. After the portal is gone." Ron said. His eyebrow knotted, a dread flicker in his eye. "The entrance room is huge. It's the ticket-selling space, with multiple hallways connected to it. Then those lizards just swarmed us. Those who survive manage to scramble. We lost some of our friends in the stampede."

"I was forced to fight these Lizardos alone in a theater room," Elend grumbled.

  "Alone?!"

"So, you're not with us earlier?"

Elend told them everything. How the Hunter Knight Captain was involved, The red gate, how he entered it, And His fight. Their eyes widen at him being an awaken.

"I see. Red Portal.. That explains how we suddenly swarmed by an army of..." Ron looked at the Lizardos, its head gaping with a stab wound. "These monsters".

"This is good news, right?" Tower cheered. "Reinforcement will come! More Knight too. We can just hide and wait. Those guys did great against the Lizard swarm. Don't know what happened to them now though"

Elend raises his eyebrow. Why did these two come to a dungeon in the first place?

"Are you sure about that?" Elend asked. "Don't you guys come to be awakened?"

They gaze down at the question. "We tried" Ron gulped. He gestures toward the dead monster. "But, fighting these things? It's not normal."

"Yeah, we're just going to wait for reinforcement," Tower said. His eyes looked saddened. No doubt these two also have dreamed of being Hunter like many others.

"I see," Elend nods. He points to Tower’s sword. "Can I have that?"

Tower blinked at the question, clearly taken surprise by it. He looks at his sword. Both have a proper sheath. He removes one and hands it to Elend. "I don't need it anymore".

"Thanks," Elend said. Drawing the sword out, the steel gleamed. He sees Tower scratching his head. The guy probably did not even draw it in this dungeon.

"Uhh, you want my armor too?"

"No" Elend shake his head. "That will be too much." He said that, although, deep down he wanted it.

  "Take this too."

He turned to see Ron handing his dagger. He took it without hesitation, giving him his kitchen knife in return.

"Thank you," Elend sheathed it on his hips. "Let's get you guys into a theater room. You could hide there, I took down the Lizardos already."

  They nod following him.

Elend peeks back at their face, which is wrapped with shame.

"There's no need to be ashamed," He said. Not sure what to follow it up with.

"It's just.. I thought we would do better," Ron grumbled.

  He heard Tower nod gruffly.

Opening the theater room. Elend could see a Lizardos alive. It sits in the audience seat. Watching a movie. The throne still lies there lays broken. The caved body of the first Lizardos is still apparent.

  (Lizardos Lvl 5)

A sharp gasp behind him. Elend took a deep breath. the dungeon is strange. He knew that before walking in.

  BOOM!

A sound of a gun went off.

Elend saw on the screen. A man is dying from a gunshot wound. Then the credits roll.

  What?

This doesn't seem to be a coincidence.

The Lizardos roared, eyes zeroed in on him. Spear on, ready.

"Support me if you can," Elend glanced at them. To which they nodded hesitantly, yet their eyes flickered in anticipation.

He stepped into the theater. The amber gold light dims up slowly.

Holding his sword toward the Lizardos in a death grip, he kept the steel point trained on it. He hates how alien the sword feels. Yet, he knew he would have a better chance with this light sword than the morning star or dagger.

The Lizardos took a step back. Eyes drifting between three of them.

"I will take the front line," Tower muttered beside him. He stepped forward with that crumbling shield and drew his sword.

Ron ran upstairs, bow aimed at the Lizardos.

Maybe they hadn't given up after all. Elend smiled. A surge of confidence swirls inside him.

He saw the Lizardos staring at Ron with concern evident in its eyes. Elend knew Ron not going to be able to do any damage, unless he managed to hit it in the eye. Or they remove it's scaly skin first. But the Lizardos did not know that.

Elend steps upstairs in front of Ron. In case the Lizardos target him first.

"Let's step closer," He said. Tower gives a gruff nod.

They step forward, the Lizardos back against the corner of the theater.

"Do not shoot," Elend murmured to Ron. "It will know your arrow useless."

He gets a nod from him. "I know," Ron said.

Elend wants the Lizardos to hit Tower, so he could flank it. It doesn't seem willing to commit though.

"Let's go!" Elend shouted to Tower. "I will draw it to me".

He lunges forward. (Heavy Strike) Blue light swirls across his sword, and Elend could feel the sword begging to be swung. He brings it in a downward arc.

The Lizardos raise the spear in two hands. Trying to block it.

His sword rend through the Lizardos' skin and spear alike, Blood sprouted out, as if its scaly armor were not there.

The tower slammed toward it. Shield bashing it to the wall.

"Aaah!" He stabbed the Lizard with his sword. It lanced inside its thighs.

  It's roared viscerally.

  "Ron!" Tower shouted.

The sound of arrow whistle through Elend's ear. It pierces deep inside the wound he created. Across its shoulder.

Life dimmed out of its eyes.
