Bored

The goddess paced the length of her chambers bored, as she often gets. It’s hard to find entertainment when you’re immortal. Groaning with annoyance the goddess flopped onto her bed covering her eyes with her arm. Her kitsune joined her and laid in the bend of her arm, her nine tales giving off a pleasant aroma.

The kitsune was a creature that the goddess had intended to send to Aeloria to help the humans with the magical aroma it gave off, but the god of time advised against it. He told her that if she were to send the creature to Aeloria in the future the kitsune would be hunted to extinction because of the magic properties their pelts held. So the goddess kept the kitsune for herself and named her Elana.

Elana became the goddess’s personal familiar. Everywhere the goddess went the little fox like creature was right behind her. Her snow-white fur providing comfort to the goddess whenever she needed it. The goddess refused to go anywhere without her

“Thanks, Lay-Lay.” The goddess mumbled rolling over to give the fox scratches. Over the past thousand years the kitsune had learned how to read the goddess’s emotions like a open book. Petting her never failed to calm her down. “I know!” exclaimed the goddess as an idea hit her. She hopped off the bed leaving behind a confused Elana.

The goddess strode into another room that held a massive garden. She strode towards the center where a garden dome was standing. It was a beautiful work of art. Hand carved flower vines scaled the pillars, and the dome showed intricate paintings of the many creatures the goddess had made over the years. One of the minor gods had made it for her a few thousand years ago as a tribute. In the center stood a round stone table with a carved map of the world of Aeloria. She used this table to check on the humans and to send new creatures.

Elana jumped onto the goddess’s shoulder as the goddess approached the table. The carving started emitting a blue glow when the goddess’s hand hovered above it, a moment later a holographic globe hovered above the table spinning slowly.

“We haven’t been to Aeloria in a while.” The goddess told Elana but the fox was more interested at pawing the hologram. It was true, the last time she went was three-thousand years ago. The goddess took the fox off of her shoulders and held her in her arms like a cat. “The question is where to go…”

The kitsune reached up and pawed one of the larger countries, Veloria. “Ooooo, good pick Lay-Lay. If I remember correctly, that country is having some sort of festival this time of year.” With that being decided the goddess turned heel back to her room to prepare.

A few minutes passed by and the goddess was in her “most human outfit” and was checking her things to go when Elana jumped onto a dresser holding a wooden face mask in her mouth. “Thanks for the reminder Lay-Lay.” said the goddess as she put the mask on.

This mask the goddess had made to conceal her aura. Without it she could accidentally kill someone by just making eye contact. She learned that a few hundred years ago. A chill ran down her spine as the memory came back but she quickly shook the thought from her mind.

The goddess approached the map and enlarged the image of the capital city. Its buildings were covered in banners and lanterns and she could make out several stalls. Drawing her cloak around her she placed her palm onto the table and they were taken to the city.
