The Tower (2)

Landing dramatically on the body of the dead rat, my fall had been cushioned. To my shock, the hole that I had dropped into had not been as dangerous as I thought it would have been. Expecting something deeper, for a while I thought I would have to respawn again but rather than being a 40 meter fall between the first floor and here, it was more like a 10 meter fall.

I glanced around myself. Looking around this strange underground section of the tower, the first thing I would notice was the dark blue lights of this place. It was like the color of moonlight. This place had some unique beauty and charm, something dark and mysterious which compares well against the bright orange flickering flares of the first floor.

Things here were also much more quiet. This floor was unique and it might be the every same case when it comes to the other floors of the tower though I’ve never been there.

It was like this section of the tower had been a secret. Something that people would rarely ever find.

  “It’s kind of dark here.”

“Yeah… That’s going to be an issue but good thing is that I have a skill in order to make things brighter.”

Sparkle held her hand out. I stared at her with a look of confusion. Was she going to grab a torch or something? I thought to myself with a doubtful look but instead of a dim blue light, it was a radiant ball of light which beamed out of her palms before floating above my head. I stared up at it.

  “You know other spells?”

“I know a good amount of spells but I am not going to tell you about the spells that I have.”

“Well that’s fine. I enjoy the surprise of not knowing what you can do and besides, it’s a lot more fun that way.”

I jumped off the body of the dead rat and began to walk. This section of the tower just like the first floor had been a town. But unlike the previous floor, this floor looked a lot more grandiose than it would normally be.

Unlike the first floor which had no furniture, this section of things had some degree of fortunitre even if they could be described as shoddy at best. No disrespect intended mean to the artisans.

If the first floor was a rural village then this was the capital to a great kingdom and this particular section of this area had been the outer rim of the capital. And just like a capital there was a palace and right in front of me had been a grandiose gate of luminiscient marble.

Unlike the rest of the structures in the tower, this was made out of marble while the rest was built with regular dark stone. And that palace existing beyond the walls and gates of this place was something else entirely as it was made out of wood.

The gate had look resilient and tough but thankfully for me the gate had been opened allowing me to walk past it. Walking right into the domain of the palace, the first thing that I would see right before me would be it’s large courtyard and in the middle of it had been a stone brick arena.

From my experience with movies, it looked like a place where the main character’s martial arts experience would be tested. Never in my life had I ever been to a place like this. Somewhere so regal and of such great status. Other than the movies and the giant corporate towers that everyone in the world could see even from the very outskirts of civilization, there was very little which allowed me to understand the proportions of the world that was before me.

It was purely like unlike anything that I have ever been used to. After all, it was like another world to someone who was poor like me and it really was with the fact that this was a world of fantasy and illusion.

“What’s with that look on your face? You’ve gotten afraid? If you are afraid then that’s unfortunate because you aren’t going to get any richer if you just stay outside. But if you really want to become rich then join me and let’s go right into the palace and take everything that they have!”

“I’ve never pictured you as the greedy type but I’m glad that you are here to remind me of what I am supposed to do. Any other person or thing would have made me forget about what I wanted to do.”

I continued walking on the stone brick arena before the silhouette of a horned figure sitting in a chair appeared for a mere moment. Soon vanishing as I blinked. I looked around confused and to Sparkle who looked back at me with a confused look as if I had been on drugs or something as it seemed like I was high for no reason at all.

“What’s with that look on your face? It’s like you’ve seen a ghost or something. Thankfully ghosts aren’t real because a cry baby like you would probably run away from a place like this. After all it looks run down and abandoned.”

  “It’s nothing…”

I said just to prevent Sparkle from bullying me anymore over my reaction. Simultaneously I brought up my hands to my eyes in doubt.

‘Was I just miss-seeing something or was there someone here?’

I thought to myself with a look of skepticism. It was unlike me to see something after all, I was in good health despite my poor environmental conditions. Added with the fact that I am a paranoid person there was no way in hell that I would not notice something.

Well unless there really was something right in front of me but my mind and body was playing tricks on me. Light flashed again and ht figure appeared right before me. Standing up, she sighed as she reached out for the air and a sphere appeared right in her hand.

“I will defend this place from intruders!”

She immediately struck towards me before I could even recognize. With a jab straight to my neck, I dodged slightly however I will still grazed by her attack. Jumping several steps back, I looked towards her.

She was a humanoid being with dark green hair and antler like horns sticking out from her head. Was she some sort of beast-kin or something? Well, it doesn’t matter since this is a battle to the death!

I reached out for sword and my shield and charged towards her. She stood in place looking uninterested in my running assault. I struck straight towards her and she looked uninterested. Still looking uninterested, she twisted her entire body around to kick me on my stomach.

I fell down to the ground spitting out my saliva as she walked up to me slowly and dramatically. Wielding the spear over my head, I began to worry.

‘Looks like I am going to die again. Thankfully this is the tutorial…’

I thought to myself as I closed my eyes and began to accept my fate. However just as I closed my eyes and kneeled over to accept my fate, a voice boomed through the air. It was a familiar and it had been one that had trusted me all this time.

“Raelia! Don’t give up! Even though she is strong! You can still win against someone like her so trust me!”

Sparkle said with a booming voice as she appeared right behind the spear wielding woman and launched many air bullets straight towards her. The woman sighed a breath of exhaustion as she weaved through the sea of air bullets that Sparkle generated.

Meanwhile I stared on the sidelines clearly impressed by the fact that Sparkle could be so strong. She was an AI and I was a human, that’s just who we were at most. But fundamentally she called me her master, so why am I weaker than her?

I grit my teeth before standing up once more. Vanishing in my hands had been the sword and the shield which were soon to be replaced with an all so familiar weapon. I wielded a spear in my hand and walked up to the woman. We stared at once another and I looked up at her with a ferocious glare.

“Hey. It’s a battle between the two of us. Your spear and Sparkle’s magic against your overpowered plot armor.”

“You are using a spear? That’s my speciality weapon.”

“Yeah and I am going to beat you with your own weapon you damn bastard. There really wasn’t any reason for you to attack me when you first saw me.”

I sighed a breath of exhaustion as I charged up towards her and struck with my spear while at the same time Sparkle continued to bombard her with air bullets. It was something that should have worked out in our favor.

But in the end that was not the case. She held me by her hands and she stared at me with an indifferent look of disinterest. The same annoying look on her face which she had always managed to keep during the time that she was fighting off against the two of us. It was just disgusting and it wasn’t something that I was going to accept.

“Do you have any last words before I painfully choke you off?”

“Hey can’t you at least be kind to someone else with green hair?”

Her eyes widened after I said that and she fell to the ground releasing me from her grip. She looked at me with a confused look and I did too before she bowed.

“I am sorry for the inconvenience and rudeness that I have treated you with young master. Please find it within your heart to forgive an undeserving servant like me.”

She spoke with an honest devout voice causing a flare of gray uncertainty to appear in my eyes. Clearly not getting her memo.

“Wait why are you so kind to me?”

“It’s because we are of the same origin. The two of us have green hair.”

  …

I stared at her with a confused and somewhat pissed off look. I was expecting some sort of badass training montage where I would fight against her again and again until I could eventually surpass her but for things to happen like this was completely anticlimactic and I HATED IT. But being called young master must have meant something after all, being a young master might as well mean we could be rich and do anything that we want.

  “Show me the treasure!”

I chuckled and the green hair woman stared at me before nodding.

“I will show you our treasure.”

I followed after the green haired woman. She led me into the wooden palace and I followed her right into the fancy looking rooms and we turned into the hallway before coming to the end of it. She pressed a section in the wall which caused an entry below to open.

We stared at her astonished once again and she turned around with a smirk on her face. Clearly enjoying the fact that we had been so shocked and off guard by the fact that the building could just open up like that on it’s own.

“It’s just how our buildings are here after all the best defense to raiders is to have our precious items hiding in plain sight.”

“Well I guess that it is true. It’s a lot easier to hide something precious than protect things when they are out in the open.”

“That is correct but young master may I know of your name?”

  “It’s Raelia.”

“Raelia. It seems that someone has been following us for quite a while, should I take care of them?”

The green attendant glanced around to face Sparkle who had a look of shock on her face.

“I’m with her! I’m with master! There’s no need to dispose of me! That’s just being wasteful if you do so!”

The green attendant nodded before glancing to look at me.

  “Is this true?”

“She’s my attendant so you shouldn’t lay a hand on her.”

“Alright. I will do as you have told me but if you were going to come to somewhere as dingy like this you should have told me about it beforehand so I could inform you of this.”

We continued to walk in the long winded stone hallway of the section leading up to the treasury room. On the walls of the hallway had been portraits of many other people with green hair all adorning and wearing some sort of crown. I stared at them with a look of interest.

Was green haired people blessed or something?

“Well it’s fine. I didn’t expect to be coming here to begin with.”

I glanced on a portrait of a particular green haired figure. She had cat like ears on her hair and elf-like ears on the side of her head.

“That is lady Elisaya, she is the ancestor of the Elf-Cat Race.”

A look of shock appeared on my face. As well as Sparkle’s. Never in our lives could we expect that Elf Cats were a thing outside of my character.

“It looks like you are surprised by this fact.”

“Yeah… I’ve never really seen another Elf-Cat in my life even though she is just a portrait.”

“It’s truly unfortunate. The demise of your people, young master. We have been looking for someone like you for a long time so please mantle the throne of God…”
