Intro

The sight of gore never bothered me.

I drove a stake through a goblin’s heart, watching the blood erupt and splatter across my tutu. My dance teacher would probably object, but really, I only took ballet for the costume – which now sported a fashion redesign. Forget green, pink goes good with red.

To me, looking at blood was like looking at ice cream… except I’ve never been bitten by a sparkling vampire, so I couldn’t exactly eat it. Maybe it was more like an art major looking at a classic painting. But honestly? I find those paintings terribly boring to look at, so you’ll have to tell me if I’m right.

A scream tore through the night. I glanced to my right and spotted another goblin, trembling like he’d just seen a monster. I could relate. He clutched a human arm, he probably just ripped it off a human, judging by the glistening bone. That’s where I couldn’t relate.

Who am I, you ask? A psychopath who enjoys suffering? Perhaps. Someone with a sliver of a moral compass when it comes to humans? Probably. A girl in a tutu who kills goblins? Definitely, since I just killed one. But I’m something more than all of that.

The goblin dropped the arm and bolted, his pathetic little legs pumping furiously. It made me wonder why the arm’s original owner couldn’t outrun him. Clearly, this guy wasn’t winning any races.

What else am I, beyond a crazy lunatic proficient at life disposal? I am something more than that. I have disposed of many beings like the Goblins. Monsters that hail from A very different world. But those monsters often kill humans.

I sprinted after him – not a very long sprint. I grabbed him by the scruff of his neck. Panic bloomed on his face. He reached for the discarded arm he left before running, pathetically close on the us. We really hadn’t gotten far.

Call me a monster. An inhuman humanoid. A savior. Call me whatever you want. Maybe I am a monster, like the ones I hunt. Maybe I’m no different from the things I try to save humans from. But none of it changes what I truly am.

I drove the stake through the goblin’s skull. His own brand of red liquid gushed out kind of like eye candy. A smile stretched across my face at the horrific sight.

  I am a monster chaser.
