Chapter 16: the scholar

King Rayne V of Avora was in the library when the letter arrived. He was here most days because of the books and the silence. The Worldfinder didn’t have the patience nor the passion for the politics of the Royal court. He considered himself a scholar first and a head of state second. This particular stance had caused many problems in the past, as it did today. In fact, the letter his servant brought him, had everything to do with it.

We recruited Lord Windvale to our cause. Our target’s location is known to us but we have not been able to engage yet. Meanwhile danger is afoot in Tower City. The Bridge is here: a full ship, lead by special commander Moynes. She’s aided by a local gang of criminals. Dissapearances have been happening in the poorer districts of the city. We have not yet been able to figure out if or how the Bridge connects to these.

  Your loyal agent.

It seemed his suspicions were right. The organization he’d founded a century ago had long since parted itself from his influence. They were not scholars such as he but fools, intent on seeing the world burn all for the sake of knowledge. The king decided to write a letter back straightaway. Keyna must be found. Without her I stand no chance of ever defeating the Bridge. If they manage to construct a bridge to Aetheron, then everything is doomed. He wrote new instructions, sealed his letter and found the right servant. After that he went back to his research.
