Chapter Five: Old Man Zhu

He Changhe handed the wool fabric to Lin Yue and asked: "How much did you pay for this piece of wool?"

Lin Yue saw He Chang sigh and knew that the other party did not take a liking to this piece of fabric. Although he was slightly disappointed in his heart, he still replied truthfully: "I bought it when I bought the bowl."

"No wonder." He Chang nodded as if he had gained some insight.

"How young are you? How many years have you been in this line?" He Changhe asked again, seemingly quite interested in Lin Yue.

"Are you in the trade?" Lin Yue smiled wryly, knowing that the other person was referring to the jade and antique business. "I haven't entered the trade yet. I've been selling jade raw materials on this street for two years, but I got dumped yesterday."

"What's going on? Why?" He Changhe seemed very interested in this matter.

"I unraveled the jade wool, thirty-one times in a row without unraveling it, every knife cut was a failure, so people gave me a nickname 'One Knife Down', everyone on this street knew about it, so no one asked me to unravel stones again, afraid of being affected by my bad luck, so I was fired." Lin Yue broke the jar and smashed it, his heart was also at ease, when others asked him, he just told the truth.

Who would have thought that He Chang and others, after listening to Haha's loud laughter, patted Lin Yue's shoulder and said: "Gambling on stone is all about oneself, how can you blame the person who solves the stone? You can solve 31 knives in a row, which shows that your stone-solving skills are not bad. If you still want to do this line, give me a call, I'm just short of people."

"Old man, are you also in the jade jewelry industry?" Lin Yue asked slightly startled.

He Chang smiled and waved his hand, saying: "It's all small business, if you really want to do it, you have to move to Kunming, my business is there, I don't know what you think."

"May I consider it?" Lin Yue asked after a moment of hesitation. Although this was a great opportunity, he had been living here for two years and it was close to home, but going to Kunming would be much farther away from home.

"No problem, just give me a call when you've thought it over."

The two of them chatted for a while longer before Lin Yue left.

Just as Lin Yue was leaving, a delicate-faced little girl who looked like a Barbie doll bounced over to He Chang's side. She was about 15 or 16 years old, with a sweet appearance and a smile that revealed a pair of small dimples, looking very cute.

"Grandpa, what are you looking at?" The little girl's voice was as pleasant as a valley oriole.

He Changhe stroked the little girl's head with a loving face, his eyes filled with doting love, and said, "Grandpa is watching a big brother."

As He Changhe's line of sight went, the little girl saw a slightly thin but very straight back and asked inexplicably: "What's good about that big brother, why does Grandpa want to look at him?"

"He Chang smiled and said: "That big brother is very good, he's an excellent person."

The girl pouted and said: "No matter how excellent you are, you're not as excellent as your brother, let alone as excellent as Grandpa!"

He Chang couldn't help but smile with joy at his granddaughter's words, saying: "Come on, Grandpa will take you for a stroll around Jade Stone Street."

The girl skipped and jumped along, holding He Chang's hand. As she turned around, her eyes gazed at the distant, somewhat blurry figure in the distance, with a hint of curiosity flashing in her big eyes.

Lin Yue didn't throw away that piece of mao fabric which He Chang had sentenced to death, although there was no jade in it, he still wanted to study it.

Lin Yue walked into an antique shop with a bowl, he wanted to sell the magpie welcoming peach blossom bowl of Kangxi period. Now he still had 400 yuan left on him and must make plans for his next step.

Lin Yue had been hanging out on this street for two years and was somewhat familiar with the owner of the antique shop's venomous tongue, so when selling the bowl he had to be extremely careful, but he already had a plan.

"Lin Yue, aren't you busy with your stone business? How did you find the time to run over here?" Old Zhu of the antique shop was taken aback when he saw Lin Yue walk in.

Lin Yue is a regular here, but usually only comes on holidays and just window shops. The two have gotten to know each other through their occasional encounters.

"Boss Zhu, I'm asking you something personal today, do you know He Changhe?" Lin Yue asked.

"He Ge Chang? This guy is quite formidable." Then, Boss Zhu looked at Lin Yue with a puzzled expression and said: "You should be more familiar with this person than I am."

"Am I more familiar than you?" Lin Yue was stunned for a moment and didn't understand.

"Of course he's one of the Jade Kings of the gambling world. Don't tell me you don't know him."

Lin Yue slapped his forehead, how could he have forgotten that? That was the Jade King! He had actually talked to the Jade King for half a day, Lin Yue's heart was slightly excited, about the things the Jade King said and asked him to do with him. As a jade carver, his greatest wish was to see the most dazzling and beautiful jade being carved from under his knife, following the Jade King would make it very likely that this wish would come true.

But soon he felt something was wrong. How could a king of jade be so knowledgeable about antiques, and at a glance see that the bowl in his hand was genuine, and still be very sure.

"That... I wasn't asking that, what I meant was does He Chang have any knowledge about antiques and such?" Lin Yue asked with a slightly awkward tone.

"You're asking about this? I just said he's very impressive. Let me tell you, he's not only the Jade King of your gambling world, but also a ceramic expert in our collecting circle. He has a high level of expertise in ceramic appraisal and is one of the top experts nationwide." As soon as Zhu mentioned He Changhe, his face showed respect, it was clear that he had great admiration for him. Then, Zhu asked puzzled: "Why are you asking about this?"

When Lin Yue heard Mr. Zhu say so, he put his heart back in his stomach. Since he is one of the top ceramic experts in the country, his eyesight must be very accurate. If he says it's real, then it must be real.

"Nothing, just curious, I just heard the news about him today." Lin Yue asked again: "Do you have any Kangxi period bowls here, Mr. Zhu?"

Zhu boss looked at Lin Yue with a puzzled expression and jokingly said: "What, are you also planning to buy something?"

"Can't you just take a look?"

Mr. Zhu shook his head helplessly, knowing that Lin Yue would not have the leisure to buy antiques, and said: "We can say it clearly, if you damage it, you will have to compensate for the original price." Then he went to get it.

"Wait!" Lin Yue hastily stopped Zhu Laoban, asking somewhat embarrassed: "Uh... how much is that bowl? Let's agree on a price first, or you'll be taking advantage of me later."

Zhu boss glared at Lin Yue fiercely and said: "Am I that kind of person? In the Kangxi period, a bowl would cost about 100,000."

"One hundred thousand!" Lin Yue's eyes were shining with golden stars, and he thought to himself that he had struck it rich.

"What's wrong?" Boss Zhu looked at Lin Yue's expression, which didn't seem worried but rather excited.

Lin Yue took out a bowl he had picked up from behind him and placed it on the counter, saying: "Name a price."

Seeing the bowl in front of him, Zhu Lao suddenly understood and pointed at Lin Yue, scolding: "You little rascal, you've tricked me!"

"Of course, who doesn't know that you, Boss Zhu, are ruthless? I don't know the price of antiques, so I can only ask you. If I asked you directly, you definitely wouldn't tell me, so I had to do it this way." Lin Yue said with a smile.

Mr. Zhu was furious, hitting the wild goose all day, but unexpectedly got his eyes pecked by the goose. However, with business coming to the door, he couldn't push people away, so he picked up that magpie welcomes peach blossom vase and took a look.

After a while, Mr. Zhu put down his bowl and said with a disappointed face: "It's a Republic of China imitation, not the real thing, what a pity."
