Chapter Eighteen: Visiting Chang Tai

The next day, the situation between the two improved greatly. In the morning, Qin Yaoyao suddenly opened the door and ate breakfast with a frosty face. No matter how Lin Yue tried to talk to her, she just looked at him coldly without saying a word.

Lin Yue found himself no match for women, especially those with unpredictable personalities like Qin Yaoyao and He Lanrue. In the end, Lin Yue took the initiative to apologize and then punished himself by doing three days of household chores.

Upon hearing Lin Yue's words, Qin Yaoyao, who had been maintaining a straight face, immediately broke into a smile and said: "This is what you said, I didn't force you." Then she hastily ate a few mouthfuls of rice, grabbed her bag, and rushed out the door to go to work, looking like she was afraid Lin Yue would change his mind.

Lin Yue looked at Qin Yaoyao's disappearing back and suddenly woke up in his heart: Had he fallen into a trap?

Unfortunately, he realized it too late, and now he has to do all the household chores for the next three days.

Lin Yue looked at the messy room with a sorrowful face, shook his head helplessly and thought to himself: "You reap what you sow." But if he could hug Qin Yaoyao again, it would be worth it.

He soon thought of the appointment with He Chang and Master Cheng Tai's house today, and the time was almost up. He hastily ate a few mouthfuls of rice, didn't even clean up the table, grabbed his clothes and rushed out of the living room.

Lin Yue waited for He Changhe's car at the agreed intersection, and soon He Changhe's old car came over. After Lin Yue got on the car, the two sat down and headed towards Master Chang Tai's house.

"Mr. He, is there anything that Master Chang Tai dislikes or taboo? I'm afraid of accidentally saying something wrong and offending him."

On the way, Lin Yue asked He Chang with some concern.

"Hehe, he has a good temper and is not particular about anything. However, there's one thing he doesn't like - young people who brag, but he likes young people who are humble and eager to learn. After you go to his house, ask him some questions and maybe he'll take a liking to you." He Chang also reassured Lin Yuekuan with a few words.

Lin Yue heard this and smiled bitterly in his heart. He himself didn't understand anything about carving, how could he ask questions? If only he had reviewed the books he read before about this aspect again.

After more than ten minutes, the two people arrived in a quiet residential area.

After Lin Yuezai got off the bus, he looked around at the surroundings. The trees were lush and dense, and the entire community seemed very quiet, indeed a good place for leisurely retirement.

Lin Yue followed He Changhe to the front of the Changtai Gate, where He Changhe signaled Lin Yue to behave and calm down a bit. Lin Yue took a deep breath, steadied his emotions, and nodded slightly.

As soon as He Chang knocked on the door, it was quickly opened.

The one who opened the door was a woman in her early twenties with an absolutely beautiful face, but slightly cold and distant. Her figure was tall and curvy, with a slender waist and prominent bust. Her skin was pale and delicate, and her eyes seemed clear and cold, yet somehow still managed to sparkle with vitality. However, her entire body radiated an aura of aloofness, as if warning people to keep their distance, making her seem like a thousand miles away.

Lin Yuezong silently praised her in his heart, what a beautiful woman.

But then he was somewhat puzzled, isn't this Master Chang Tai's house? Who is this woman? What relationship does she have with Master Chang Tai? Is she Master Chang Tai's daughter?

"Hello Grandpa He, the teacher is already waiting for you in the study." The woman said as she stepped aside, still without a smile, but her voice like silver bells carried a hint of warmth.

"Haha, I didn't expect to see Qing Meng here too. How's university life treating you?" He Chang saw the woman in front of him and his eyes flashed with a hint of surprise, but he quickly relaxed.

"It's all right, thank you for your concern, Uncle He." The woman named Qingmeng bowed slightly and thanked him.

"Let's go and see that old fellow, I don't know if he's dead or not." He Chang said as he led Lin Yue into the room.

Qing Meng seemed to notice Lin Yue only at this moment, but she just gave him a faint glance before shifting her gaze away, as if she hadn't seen him.

"Her name is Li Qingmeng, a student at Yunnan University, and a student of mine. I've had the chance to interact with her many times, this girl is quite impressive." He Chang said quietly to Lin Yue.

Lin Yue nodded and followed He Chang into a tastefully decorated study with an antique flavor.

"Haha, Old Chang, are you dead yet?" He Chang asked with a big laugh as soon as he walked into the study.

"Haha, if you didn't die, how could I?" A loud and clear voice.

As soon as Lin Yue entered the study, he smelled a faint scent of pine, which was very pleasant. Then he saw an old man in his sixties with a ruddy complexion and a robust body sitting in front of the desk.

  This is Chang Tai.

He immediately saw that the study was filled with many wooden carvings and stone carvings, as well as many jade carvings, all of which were vividly lifelike, incredibly realistic, and full of dynamism. Lin Yue's heart was stirred by what he saw, and he thought to himself that Master's brushstrokes were truly extraordinary.

He Chang sat down with a slightly awkward Lin Yue, then casually pulled over a chair and sat on it.

"You're someone who never visits the Three Treasures Hall without a reason, yesterday you called me and I knew it wasn't good news. Speak up, what's this about? Are you thinking of asking me to carve another piece for the Treasure Fighting Competition? This time we have an agreement, if you can't find better jade than last time, I won't lift a finger. And I'm short on money lately, so if you want to ask something of me, it'll cost you dearly." Chang Tai and He Changhe were childhood friends, their fathers were also close friends, otherwise He Changhe's name wouldn't have the character "Chang" in it.

"Will you be short of money?" He Chang's eyes widened in incredulity as he stared at Chang Tai.

Chang Tai's old face turned red, and he immediately shouted: "Can't I be short of money? Nowadays students are not good at all, they don't follow you if you don't have money. In the past, the master was the father, now the student is the father, it's killing me! But there's no way, the gap is so severe now, so we can only use money to stimulate them, and it's also a contribution to the country."

Chang Tai's face was filled with disappointment, clearly having lost all hope in today's young people.

A few words made Lin Yue feel that the Chang Tai in front of him was a master with a strong sense of responsibility, and in order to make carving flourish, he even used his own money to motivate his students. It's really painstaking. He didn't know whether to be happy for Chang Tai's students or to feel sad for them. Such a good teacher is there, but they don't learn.

Hearing Chang Tai's words, He Chang slapped the desk fiercely and burst into anger: "Nowadays young people are too unreasonable! What can you teach such a student? Can't you just do it yourself?"

"You say it's easy, but there are tens of thousands of people who gamble on stones, and collectors are everywhere. You don't have to worry about yourself, but how many people actually learn to carve? If you can find a few, that's already good enough. It's like finding a general among cripples - what can you do?"

Lin Yue felt a burning sensation on his face as he listened to the two old men's words, it was really embarrassing for a young man like him!

He Chang and He Yan understood the old friend's heart, and his anger was quickly suppressed. He comforted him, saying: "Don't worry, there will definitely be someone who will learn from you. I think Qing Meng is not bad, she knows how to respect her elders and is a quick learner. Are you considering taking her as an apprentice?"

Whenever Li Qingmeng was mentioned, a hint of a smile would appear on Chang Tai's face, apparently he was very satisfied with her. Chang Tai picked up the teacup from his desk and took a sip, calmly saying: "There's no need to mention this, I've already accepted her as my nominal disciple. However, learning carving is not something that can be accomplished overnight, she's about to graduate soon, and if I don't have any income, it will definitely put a lot of psychological pressure on her. So, I want her to follow me and work together. In the future, when I create new works, I'll let her carve them into rough drafts first, and then I'll finish them off. On one hand, this will help train her, and on the other hand, it will also allow her to earn a considerable income with peace of mind."

"Well, that's a good idea." He Chang nodded and smiled: "If she really has any pressure, I can arrange for her to come to my place, and I'll definitely give her a good job."

"Get out! You've actually dug your way to my place! I can still afford to raise a disciple, no problem." Chang He frequently glared at He Chang with a bad temper.

"Speak up, what did you come here for this time?"

As the conversation turned to the main topic, Lin Yue's heart couldn't help but feel a wave of tension. Chang Tai's moral integrity as a teacher was absolutely impeccable, and Lin Yue really wanted to learn from such a teacher, only fearing that the other party wouldn't accept him.

"This time it's not to find you to carve, this time I'm bringing him here. This kid is pretty good, very interested in carving, so I brought him to let him learn from you and know what a master's demeanor is." He Zhong pointed at Lin Yue.

"Hello Teacher Chang, I'm Lin Yue." Lin Yue hastily stood up to introduce himself.

Chang Tai took a deep look at He Changhe, after all these years of friendship, how could he not understand He Changhe's meaning? He said to let himself teach and guide the other party, but in fact, it was to find an apprentice for himself. Then, he shifted his gaze to Lin Yue, sizing him up from head to toe.

"Are you interested in carving?" Chang Tai asked.
