Chapter 5: Preparation

  (Xavier Edwards point of view)

"It was a pleasure doing business with you." said the cashier as she handed me my bag of clothing.

Hinata has a good sense of fashion. All the clothes she picked were in my style of choice. However, the robes were something that I would wear if asked.

After stepping out in my new attire, I said, "This is nice. But are you sure you want to spend all this on me? You didn't need to go the extra mile for me."

"I brought you here; the least I can do is look after you. There's one more place we need to visit." she said, holding my hand.

That's very kind of her, "I appreciate that. Where are we going next?" I asked.

"I want to buy you a weapon and a communication device. I know a guy who can sell us the best equipment at a good price." She seems very happy about this, which is surprising. Perhaps she isn't as dangerous as she appears.

I really do appreciate her kindness. "Lead the way." I said, showing her my bright smile.

We arrived at a small weapons store, where the man at the counter shouted, "Princess Hinata, it's been-" His eyes nearly popped out when he saw us holding hands.

"Hello Mark, I hope you have some hunter watches in stock." She slowly let go of my hand before whispering, "Go look around for a weapon. Don't hold back." Then she slowly made her way to him.

I need to choose a weapon, which seems straightforward enough. However, I was surprised to find that all the options were gloves displayed in a case with different types of weapons. I thought I might be in the wrong section, so I explored the sword sector, but I encountered the same issue there.

"Need help?" A woman with short pink hair asked.

"Yeah, I'm new here." I said

She picked up a glove and put it on, "Appear." she said, and a red longsword appeared.

  That's amazing.

"Command weapons require a summon word and a departure word. Put on a glove and register two words. Disappear." The weapon vanished and afterward, she removed the glove.

I see now, "Okay, thank you." I said to the girl.

She flashed me a quick smile and gave me a peace sign before walking away.

Based on the information I gathered, I chose an eastern sword adorned with a blue wave design. Afterward, I returned to the counter to find Hinata patiently waiting for me.

Mark saw me and nudged Hinata on her shoulder, causing her to sigh out of annoyance, "Got what you were looking for?" she asked, smiling once again.

I gave her a short nod before tossing the glove to her.

After she caught it, she immediately paid for the items, "Thank you for your purchase." said Mark.

Hinata quickly returned to me and offered to equip the watch and glove. It felt odd considering how much she was helping me. She was happy, so I don't mind for now.

We said our goodbyes to Mark and then walked out of the store.

After leaving the store, I realized it was getting dark. "I think I should head home now, considering how dark it has gotten." I suggested.

She seemed a bit disappointed but agreed, "Fine, after your mission tomorrow, can you tell me about your first experience? My number is already saved on your watch."

Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.

"You've done so much for me, so it's only right that you are the first person I tell." I respond with a bright smile.

She grasped her sword, cut a portal for me, and said, "See you later." before she walked away. She stopped for a moment and waved goodbye before continuing on her way.

My, what a friendly and weird girl.

I stepped through the portal to return home, only to find my teammates fighting like cats and dogs in the hallway.

They both stopped the moment they noticed me, "Xavier!" They said in unison.

I stood still, contemplating whether to return to Hinata or not, "Why are you fighting?" I asked.

Both stood up and together started talking over each other, which made it hard to understand what they were doing at the moment.

I clapped my hands together which caused them to be quiet, "If you both are going to act like children then I'm going to treat you like one. Gabby, you first." I said.

Gabrielle began to fix up her hair and uniform, "It's dinner time and we were wondering who was going to be cooking. But he said that the only time I should be cooking is if we need to get rid of rats." Her eyes turned to Ren who was quietly laughing.

I turned my attention to Ren, "Xavier you haven't tried her food, and trust me I was doing you a favor. I just don't want you to get sick-" After that comment he made, Gabrielle gave him a mean right hook that knocked him to the ground.

It seems there are some issues with my team members getting along. "How about I make dinner as my way of saying thanks for welcoming me into the team?" I suggested to them.

Gabrielle and Ren both looked at each other and showed a thumbs up.

  (Two hours later)

I prepared a three-course meal for them. For our starters spinach & artichoke stuffed mushrooms.

The main dish was honey garlic salmon with asparagus.

And finally for dessert, a mixed berry parfait.

After presenting each one with their dishes, "Dig in." I told them.

To which they all behaved like pigs devouring their meals. I was relieved to see them eating my dishes.

Before eating, I said a brief prayer and then began to eat, "Are you all aware of tomorrow's mission?" I asked. "Earlier today, I went out to buy my equipment for it."

Gabrielle paused her meal briefly, "We have been tasked with eliminating a creature called the Mothman and a couple of skinwalkers. It is not too difficult, however, we need to be on high alert." Without delay, she resumed her eating.

Ren paused from eating and said, "I need to ask, what are your abilities? We can start planning ahead of time to prevent accidents." Then, he quickly resumed eating voraciously.

"I actually still need to learn about sorcery. I was just going to use my sword and Lezian during my time." I said after finishing my parfait.

Both Gabrielle and Ren looked at me in confusion, "Lezian." They said.

I forgot to introduce them to my family, "Can you come out Lezian." I said and immediately felt her presence behind me.

Both Gabrielle and Ren stopped eating and stared in complete horror when they saw my family, "Guys this is my family. Say hello Lezian." I said calmly.

Lezian decided to scream loudly enough that the entire block could probably hear them.

After they stopped screaming, "What do you think?" I said so cheerfully not knowing that I scar the both of them.

Gabrielle got up and slowly walked upstairs, "I'm going to bed." She quietly muttered.

Following up Ren also decided to walk upstairs, "It's best not to stay up all night." He said.

I looked at Lezian who didn't look like they understood what happened, "You are not scary just misunderstood."

At least they saw them now instead of later. I guess I could fiddle around with this. And maybe send Hinata a few messages of thanks.

  (The next day)

I put on the new hunting gear, which fits perfectly.

I wore a white robe with a purple snake design. It was slightly loose and revealed a bit of my chest, paired with black boots and a blue sheath designed for my sword. I also wore a black undershirt and pants.

Once I left my room, I noticed Ren exiting his room in his gear.

Ren wore a light blue robe with a white wave design, tight white gloves, a black undershirt with pants, and white boots, "Morning." He said, visually tired.

Her door was pushed open, and she walked out with a happy look on her face, "Morning, boys." Whatever perfume she was using was certainly strong; I can give her that.

Gabrielle wore a light pink robe decorated with red roses, and a black undershirt and pants. She had a red ribbon tied around her waist, a soccer ball tucked under her arm, and white boots on her feet.

"Are you ready for our mission?" I asked excitedly.

Both of them gave an excited thumbs up.

We all walked downstairs, ready for a quick breakfast when we heard someone knocking at the door.

I opened the door and saw a pink-haired man wearing a purple suit standing patiently, "My name is Gun-wo, and I'm your supervisor," he said.

The three of us looked at each other, and then Ren replied, "You are actually here earlier than expected. We didn't even eat-" but stopped when Gun-wo started cutting a portal.

"I have a rule that a mission must be completed at least an hour before 09:00. That's why I'm here early. Let's not waste any time talking; let's complete the objective." He said, stepping through the portal. He turned and signaled for us to follow.

It was our first mission, so I didn't want to be on his bad side. I just followed suit, and then the others followed as well.
