We were at a private training facility that Gun-wo rented for the day. The facility had everything you would expect from a training dojo, including various weightlifting equipment, a ring for different martial arts, and a garden with a beautiful spring.
Gun-wo locked the door and walked towards the center of the facility while saying, "As you heard, will be competing against the other teams in the C-rank division. To prepare you all for this, I want to see your strengths and weaknesses since I wasn't there during your first mission." He took off his robes and tossed them aside.
He tied his hair and performed a few stretches, "Now I want you all to attack me without holding back. Only then I will understand where you guys scale in terms of your capabilities, I will also determine what type of training I should put you on." said Gun-wo.
The three of us stood silently, exchanging glances and wondering who would go first. That's when Ren patted my back and suggested, "Xavier, since you're more of a close-combat fighter, why not lead the attack while we stay back and provide support?"
It wasn't a bad idea. If we are sticking with me in the front lines while Gabrielle attacks from a distance and Ren performs random buffs...I believe we can surprise him.
I stepped forward and disrobed myself, "Okay, Lezian I need you." I called out to my family for assistance, but something was off, they looked different from the last I remember.
Their face didn't have the slit mouth, and their four arms had transformed into two human arms, "Something wrong here." I said, noticing a suspicious mark around their necks.
Ren came forward to check the collar and said, "Xavier, you won't be able to do anything with Lezian for a while. She currently has the mark of obedient."
I looked confused till Gabrielle stepped forward and said, "It happens whenever a bound human gets severely injured, and the monster failed to prevent that. They won't be able to act freely in this state of mind because you have full control of them, but they should return back to normal in a couple of days." She explains.
This is going to be an issue. I can't prevent myself from getting hurt but at the same time, I don't want them to be under my control.
I gently rubbed Lezian head and said to them, "I will handle things until you return to my side in the right state of mind." Lezian disappeared with a weak frown on their face.
When I returned my sight to Gun-wo...a rubber chicken bounced off my head, "HURRY UP ALREADY!" He was lying down like some kind of model with a book and a cup of wine in front of him.
Out of all the humiliating things that occurred in my life, getting hit by a rubber chicken is by far the top ten.
My veins were appearing all over my body as I visibly started to get angry.
Ren traced sometimes on my back and said, "Go get him." And at that moment, I dashed straight toward him with the enhanced speed given to me.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
With one massive leap into the air before crashing down with my fist ready for an attack. However, I was lying down on the floor, posing for some reason.
I know that it's a hunter ability, but what exactly?
Even the surprise soccer ball, moving at blinding speed, was caught effectively by his right hand, "If you don't want me to keep dunking on you guys, you better start entertaining me." Immediately, I got up and went for a spinning roundhouse kick.
He dodged that attack and not only that, but his prediction skills were far too perfect.
Initially, I tried a kicking fighting style, but he dodged perfectly. Even my fake-out attacks failed; he even caught Gabrielle's ball without looking at her.
For the duration of this fight, he kept his gaze solely on me.
I performed a sidekick to which he was already holding my leg in mid-air which caught me off guard, "Being a bound human means you have monster levels of enhancement. From being able to toss an entire building without any concerns, to withstand a bullet from a tank, and being fast enough to race a jet. Right now, you are strongest in terms of physical performance despite being at the beginning stage. However, you are missing one important thing that will make you a deadly hunter." He disappeared from me, and I soon realized why.
Gabrielle already kicked the ball once he was holding me. So when he suddenly vanished...I received the full force of her attack.
It was strong enough to knock me a few spaces on the ground. Where Gun-wo sat on my chest with a smug smile, "All you need is to learn some sorcery techniques to expand your arsenal." He soon went to the others leaving me on the ground.
(Ten minutes later)
We lost.
Gabrielle got hit to the face by her own soccer ball and Ren got knocked down by the rubber chicken.
All three of us sat together on our knees, knowing that we hadn't landed a single blow on him. Disappointment and irritation were the right feelings for all of us.
Gun-wo on the other hand, was sitting on a plastic chair while sipping on a glass of wine, "Okay, so you guys are decent in your own unique way. Xavier is the team muscle but lacks sorcery training, Gabrielle is our sniper but weak in close combat, and Ren is our enhancer but can't defend himself because he is incredibly weak." Said Gun-wo.
Gabrielle began to giggle quietly, which annoyed Ren; however, both of them stopped their quarrel when Gun-wo stood up from his seat and approached us.
He looked at Ren and kneeled down saying, "For your training, you will do one hundred push-ups, sit-ups, squats, a five-kilometer run, and ten minutes of planks every day." Ren's shocked face was priceless, but we noticed that Gun-wo had put a watch on his wrist.
Ren's face was nearly in tears as he felt the watch on his wrist. He asked, "Is this... a vital watch?" His unhappiness deepened when Gun-wo gave him a warm smile and nodded.
"Exactly kids, each of you will receive a special task from me. It must be completed daily; otherwise, you will be punished." he said, as I alongside Gabrielle noticed we had one of those watches too.
He turned his attention to us, "Gabrielle, you will have to practice seven different martial arts including weapon arts. And for you Xavier, you will have to learn one sorcery technique a day." He said.
I am more or less fine with my requirements because sorcery was one of the things I wanted to learn. But Gabrielle seemed not too pleased with that, "Why must I get the hard requirements." She moaned.
Ren glared at her, tears streaming down his face. "At least you don't have to work out every single day of your life," he said, prompting a heated argument between the two.
As that conversation continued, I had one question in mind, "Gun-wo, what are your abilities?" This question made both of them stop talking and turn their attention to him.
He untied his hair and smiled, "I don't know, try figuring it out." He responded.
Such a lazy response, honestly, but what should I expect? We haven't earned his trust to be given the opportunity, given the situation we are in. Even if we know his abilities, we are playing dumb about it.
He will still be cautious and not leave any hints about it.
Whatever, he will slip up eventually and reveal that damn annoying powers, "How about we continue where we left off in our training?" said Gun-wo.
