Chapter 1: The Bond of Brothers

  Insufficient balance

Mark was reading a magic book in his dormitory, "Boss, what did Teacher Di look for you?"

"He doesn't want me to attend the Royal Advanced Magic Academy anymore."

Mark and I were equally shocked at that time, "Boss, your magic is so good, it's a pity not to go up, why is Teacher Di doing this?"

"Don't be in a hurry, it's like this." Then I repeated the conversation with Di teacher in his office, "How about it? Let's go through the experience together. We brothers will go out and make a name for ourselves. Even if we can't improve our magic, at least we'll gain more experience."

Mark didn't respond as readily as I had imagined. He hesitated for a moment, "Boss, let me think about it, I want to go home and discuss it with my family first, and then tell you the result tomorrow, okay?"

I punched him and said, "What's wrong with you, kid? This isn't like you. I remember you're not usually so indecisive. Alright, I won't pressure you. Let's talk about it tomorrow."

Mark's reflection made me a bit angry, and without saying anything else, I went to practice magic on my own.

I've grown up a lot now, and from the outside, I already look like an adult. It's just that my face still has some childishness that hasn't faded yet. Here is my personal information with Mark: (The following physical data is based on the author's corresponding age.)

Plus, our decent looks made us quite popular among the girls at school. However, I don't really understand this aspect of things, and I find girls to be a hassle, so there's not much development on that front for me. Mark, on the other hand, has his heart set on Haiming, and doesn't even give other girls a second glance. But what's laughable is that although Haiming became friends with me, she completely ignores Mark. Looks like his nickname "Yearning" has quite an impact on him!

The next day, before I went to find Mark, he came to find me. Mark had a bad look on his face today, like an eggplant that had been beaten by frost, and I immediately felt a sense of foreboding. Sure enough, Mark, who had never said no to me before, refused me today.

"Boss, I'm sorry...I won't be able to accompany you on your journey." Mark said in a low voice.

I immediately got excited, "Why, why can't we go? Don't you want to venture out with me? Aren't we good brothers?"

"Yes." Mark replied firmly, "Boss, I have something difficult to say, sorry, I really can't go with you."

"What's bothering you that you can't tell me? Let's solve it together." I still haven't given up, after all these years of brotherhood, I really don't want to part with him.

"I really can't say, I can only tell you it's a family matter, and my family doesn't let me go."

All these years of going to school together, I had never been to Mark's home, only knowing that his family was very wealthy. I gradually calmed down, after all, I couldn't force others to do things they didn't want to do.

We stood there in awkward silence, until I finally broke the stillness and said reluctantly: "Forget it, since your family doesn't allow you to go, then just go to the Royal Advanced Magic Academy and study hard. I'll be back in two years." Now, I feel very lonely and helpless. It seems like I have to face everything on my own from now on. Maybe this is fate's arrangement, after all, one's path must be walked by oneself.

Mark suddenly rushed over, tightly hugging me, "Old big..." sobbing uncontrollably. I hugged his broad shoulders, tears streaming down my face uncontrollably.

Gradually, our emotions stabilized, and I gently said to him, "Although we can't be together for the time being, we'll be good brothers for a lifetime."

"Yes, we've been good brothers for life." Mark paused and continued, "Older brother, you know, I really wanted to go through thick and thin with you, but I couldn't control my own destiny. I had to follow the family's arrangement. Although I'm not the eldest son, I have a responsibility to do my duty at home. We're a big family, and I need to work hard for the family."

"Alright, don't say anything more. Since we're brothers, I understand you. You don't need to explain anything to me, let's just leave everything unspoken."

Mark and I sat in a warm silence, filling the entire room, neither of us wanting to break it.

I once thought of going to Teacher Di and saying that I wouldn't go on a journey either, but thinking of Teacher Di's white hair and his ardent expectations for me, I couldn't do it. Mark and I can still meet again, but what about Teacher Di? Can he still have the energy to cultivate another talented student who might become a great demon master to fulfill his own dreams? (Note: Shu teacher stopped visiting me in my third year of school, saying that he was going out to travel.)

In the last month, Mark and I were inseparable. We cherished every moment of our remaining time together, living in the same dormitory, practicing magic together, and eating meals together. But the day of departure still arrived.

With my abilities, I didn't need to take the graduation exam, and I smoothly obtained the certification of Great Mage from the Mages' Guild (Teacher Dee didn't want me to reveal my strength too early, a 16-year-old magic user was too shocking, even so, it still left many people speechless).
