Chapter Six
Over three thousand soldiers fell under a hail of arrows in an instant, more than half of them perishing.
Tang Yin's agility was good, but under such a dense hail of arrows even the best agility became negligible. He crouched on the ground, shrinking his body to its smallest size, one hand tightly grasping half a long spear, knocking down the occasional flying arrowhead. In just a short while, he was already drenched in sweat.
This won't do! Tang Yin wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, turned around and saw that the base of the cliff wall in the valley was being attacked by fewer arrows. He made a quick decision, pulled the middle-aged man's clothes, and said urgently: "Let's go hide over there!" In his anxiety, he didn't care about pretending to be mute anymore, nor did he care if the other person could understand him or not. He just pulled hard on the middle-aged man's clothes and ran towards the base of the cliff. However, after pulling a few times, the middle-aged man's body didn't move at all, as if he had no intention of following him. Tang Yin was frantic, turned his head and shouted: "Why aren't you leaving? Are you waiting to die...?"
The words were cut off halfway, and the rest was swallowed back. The middle-aged man didn't want to follow him, but he couldn't move anymore. A black arrow feather had unknowingly shot into his helmet at some point, with great force directly piercing the iron skin and shooting through his brain, the arrowhead protruding from the back of his head, bright red blood dripping out.
An arrow to the death, a middle-aged man died without even having time to cry out.
Just a moment ago, the big living person who was still jumping around and had just saved his own life, 'Uncle', died in the blink of an eye. Tang Yin was momentarily stunned, staring at the corpse with wide eyes, dazed and numb.
Just as he was dazed, an arrow with a whistling sound pierced his shoulder, and with a dull thud, his clothes and skin were immediately penetrated. The iron arrowhead deeply drilled into his flesh and blood.
"Ugh......" Even the strong Tang Yin couldn't help but let out a muffled groan as he felt the pain, his half-crouched body collapsing onto the ground with a thud.
There was no time to catch his breath, and then a number of sharp arrows flew in. Tang Yin didn't think twice, he reached back and grabbed the arrow shaft exposed outside his shoulder, and with a sudden jerk, the sharp arrow was pulled out, along with a blood arrow shooting out. The intense pain that pierced through his bones didn't make him frown, instead, the corner of his mouth rose high.
He darted down towards the foot of the cliff like a startled rabbit.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh - three sharp arrows whizzed past his body.
Tang Yin moved quickly, with great force in his forward pounce, leaping three meters into the air. Landing without pause, he continued to roll forward with momentum. In a short distance of twenty meters, he blocked five sharp arrows and dodged no less than twenty others.
When he finally hid at the bottom of the cliff, he let out a long sigh. As he had judged earlier, not many arrows shot to the foot of the cliff, and many feathered arrows were blocked by the protruding rocks on the cliff wall before they even reached halfway, and the occasional flying arrow no longer posed a great threat to Tang Yin.
It wasn't until then that he took the opportunity to carefully observe the situation in the valley.
The opposing arrow array had already shot several rounds, the entire valley was covered with dense arrows, countless arrow feathers were inserted all over the ground, a vast expanse of blackness that also concealed the soldiers' corpses, but it couldn't cover up the crimson blood, fresh blood flowing through the stone crevices, gathering into small rivers, piercing to the eyes.
It was strange that the blood kept flowing towards him, but Tang Yin didn't think much of it and just thought it was because his side was lower.
The soldiers who narrowly escaped the hail of arrows were still wailing in agony, their cries and screams piercing like they came from hell, or rather, the valley had already turned into a hell at this moment.
It seemed like an eternity had passed before the hail of arrows finally ceased.
There was no wind in the valley, but Tang Yin felt a chill run down his spine. He reached out to touch his clothes and found that they were already soaked with sweat, as if he had just been caught in the rain.
His physical strength was suddenly drained, Tang Yin felt dizzy and his eyes blurred, he couldn't stand still, so he leaned against the cliff wall and slowly sat down.
He wanted to catch his breath and take a break, but the other side didn't give him this opportunity.
Boom, boom, boom - a rhythmic and powerful sound came from the direction of the valley mouth, causing the entire ground to shake and tremble.
Tang Yin's face flashed with a hint of surprise, he turned his head to look towards the valley entrance. It was better not to look, but now that he did, Tang Yin's heart sank. At the entrance of the valley, a large group of soldiers wearing silver armor formed a neat square formation, marching in unison, step by step, pressing forward.
That dense and silvery armor arrayed under the sun's rays seemed like a gigantic mirror, shining so brightly that it was dazzling to look at directly.
At the same time, an invisible yet real pressure came rushing in, making people's hearts panic and leaving them breathless.
Tang Yin had never felt such pressure before.
No need to run up close to count, just gaze from afar and listen to the soul-stirring footsteps, it's not hard to guess the number of people on the other side. This formation has had as few as over 10,000 people, with so many people, no need to use weapons, if each person only punches or kicks themselves once, they would still turn into minced meat.
He was a man who had experienced great storms, and no matter how dangerous the situation, he could always remain calm and composed. But now, he was panicked, and thoroughly so, because in his heart, he knew that with the current situation, there was absolutely no chance of survival.
Tang Yin's dry, cracked lips were covered with large beads of sweat that kept dripping down from his temples, and out of instinctive reaction, his body sitting on the ground forcefully slid backwards.
Unfortunately, behind him was a hard and icy cliff, with no way to retreat.
Alas! Tang Yin sighed, shaking his head in bitter laughter. It was truly unexpected that he could survive the hail of bullets in the underworld, only to die on this godforsaken cold battlefield. What's even more ironic was that he didn't even know how he got dragged into this mess, and now he was going to die without even knowing what hit him.
Was this heaven's punishment for his heavy karma? He thought to himself mockingly, and just then, he suddenly discovered that the hand pressing against the ground felt a bit soft.
The valley was full of rocks, not a single blade of grass grew, and there was no soil. How could it be soft? He hastily lowered his head to examine, behind his buttocks on the cliff wall were many cracks, and all the flowing blood flowed into the gaps in the cracks, obviously, inside was empty.
At this point, Tang Yan was like discovering a new continent, his face revealing surprise and delight. He grabbed the half-long spear and inserted it into the crack with force. All that could be heard was a "plop" sound, as the entire spearhead sank in. If it were really stone, with his current strength, he wouldn't have been able to stab the long spear so deeply.
It was indeed empty, and there was actually a cave here?! His heart racing, he gritted his teeth to prop up his exhausted body, using his hands and feet, desperately digging at the fragmented rocks under the wall.
Gurgling, gurgling!
Soon, the active gravel was dug up by him, and a hole about the size of a dog hole appeared at the foot of the wall. It was pitch black inside, and nothing could be seen clearly. Because the entrance was too small, he wanted to dig it bigger, but the cliff wall around the cave was too solid, even if he broke the tip of his long spear, he couldn't dig it open a little bit.
Tang Yin looked at the small cave that was only one foot in diameter, turned his head to look at the increasingly close enemy formation, and had no time to hesitate. He lowered his body and used force to drill into the cave.
Although he was lean, the cave was still too narrow for him. As he crawled inside, the sharp edges of the surrounding rocks were like knives, cutting through his clothes and deeply slashing into his skin.
It hurts so much that he's sweating profusely and tears are streaming down his face, but he dare not cry out, nor even make a sound.
The enemy soldier was very close, and because the valley floor was dark, he was at the foot of the cliff. The other side may not have seen him yet, but as soon as he made a sound, he would definitely attract the attention of the other side.
He didn't dare take risks and could only grit his teeth and persevere.
When he finally made his way through the opening and into the cave, he felt like he was going to pass out, sweat streaming down his face and stinging the fresh cuts on his skin.
Tang Yin sat weakly on the ground, panting heavily, while sizing up the cave. With the faint light shining in from the entrance, he found that the cave was quite spacious, of course, this spaciousness was relative to the narrow entrance.
The cave was a round tunnel, and how deep it was inside, he couldn't see clearly. Instead, the fresh blood flowing from the entrance kept flowing in.
He sat on the ground for a short while, when he suddenly heard a series of mournful cries outside.
He was startled and quickly lay down on the ground, peeking through the hole to see what was happening outside.
Those soldiers wearing silver armor have already entered the valley, a formation of tens of thousands of people, like an iron giant beast, ruthlessly trampling the corpses on the ground. Once they find that there are still surviving soldiers, regardless of whether they are injured or not, long spears fall together and pierce them into beehives.
Tang Yin felt that even if he was a ruthless person, the soldiers outside were even more cold-blooded and poisonous, they were simply emotionless killing machines. The chill in the eyes of the soldiers made Tang Yin, who was bloodthirsty by nature, feel uncomfortable.
Three thousand people, all killed in the blink of an eye, lying dead in the valley. This is the cruelty of war.
Tang Yin hid in a cave with a narrow entrance, located at the corner of a cliff, making it extremely difficult to discover. He thought he could escape this disaster, but soon found himself mistaken. After sweeping through, the other party did not give up, and instead poured oil throughout the valley, setting it ablaze before leaving. In an instant, the valley turned into a sea of flames.
A thick black smoke poured in from the entrance, making Tang Yin's eyes sting and see stars. He wanted to block the entrance, but there was no soil or even rocks inside the cave. Helplessly, he had to steel himself and walk into the mountain cave, but it wasn't as deep as he thought, and after walking less than 20 meters, the cave came to an end.
"Cough, cough..." He was violently coughing while quickly feeling the wall of the cave, hoping to find a way out. After searching for a while, he became desperate - the cave was dead, with no other passageway. Finally, Tang Yin sat down slowly on the ground, his arrow wound on his shoulder still bleeding non-stop, draining his physical strength bit by bit.
Is he going to die here? Die inexplicably in an inexplicable place? Tang Yin lifted the corner of his clothes, covered his mouth and nose, and bowed his head in bitter laughter.
P.S: Hope everyone can collect it. Until now, I know that XDJM is not many people who sent books yesterday. Please inform each other! Thank you!
