Chapter 37: Legend

  Chapter Thirty-Seven: Legend

  Servant of the devil?!!

If someone suddenly appears out of nowhere and tells you that he is a servant of the devil.

So you would probably think this person is a madman.

But if this person has just cast a stunning wall-penetrating magic spell on you, and can conjure up exquisite chandeliers, delicate candelabras, and a large amount of furniture out of thin air from an empty cave... making the cold cave instantly turn into a warm living room... such magic.

So, will you still think that "Devil's Servant" is a joke?

Du Wei wanted to laugh, but he couldn't help but feel a little stifled. The two women beside him also looked somewhat displeased.

It's clear to everyone that the guy in front of him, who possesses extraordinary magical powers, is not joking around!

"Hah... hahahaha..." Du Wei felt that his laughter sounded dry and awkward: "You, servant of the devil... I'd like to ask, what is the purpose of bringing us few people here?"

"You can call me Chris." The devil's servant glanced at Du Wei, his eyes were cold and indifferent. It was only then that Du Wei discovered that this guy's two eyeballs were actually different in color! One eyeball was green, while the other eyeball was black!

"Alright, Mr. Chris." Du Wei took a deep breath: "You, who claim to be the servant of the devil, have summoned us three here, what is your noble intention?"

Chris didn't respond, his body floated lightly to the other end of the rectangular stone table: "Young noble sir, may I ask... how do you view history?"

Du Wei's heart skipped a beat, and he replied casually: "History... is just a lie written by the victors."

"Oh... interesting idea." Chris smiled and said: "Charming young nobleman, actually, I've been observing you several of you these past few days... and I'm particularly interested in you. You've expressed some views that I find quite intriguing... for instance, you had a dispute with that female magician on the island, and at the time, you declared... hmm, let me think, how did you put it again? Ah yes, you said 'It doesn't matter if it's justice or evil, whoever has the harder fist is just, whoever has the harder fist is reasonable.'"

Du Wei nodded: "Although the words are a bit biased, but the meaning is almost the same."

"So, I have a request, can you relate your point of view to the understanding of this historical issue?"

Du Wei thought for a moment... What's there to say about this? However, he still spoke out casually:

"Alright! In my opinion, so-called justice and evil are just distinguished based on different stances... The winner is justice! The loser is evil! Because history is always written by the winner, while the loser has no right to speak, they can only accept the verdict of being evil. This is the simplest truth."

"Great!" Chris seemed very satisfied, he suddenly crossed his arms over his chest, raised his head, closed his eyes and let out a deep sigh: "Oh great master, I've finally found another of your followers."

"Wait! You said... follower? No, no, I'm not a follower of the devil." Du Wei immediately retorted: "I am not a follower of anyone! I don't believe in God or the devil."

"What do you believe in?" Chris asked with a wicked grin.

"I believe in myself... I only believe in myself!" Du Wei replied loudly.

Behind them, Joanna and Vivian's faces changed at the same time, both covering their mouths. Joanna even let out a low cry: "Oh my god!"

Chris laughed even more happily: "You see, you said it... You don't believe anyone, only yourself... This is the typical creed of a devil believer!"

  Du Wei was somewhat confused.

"Alright, let's not talk about that anymore." Chris said calmly: "In relation to your interesting views on history and the victors and losers earlier, you might as well think about what is meant by the so-called gods and demons..."

"Need I say more?" Du Wei smiled: "Two strong men fighting, the winner is God, and the loser is a demon! The guy who wins gets everything, has the right to speak, and history is written by him. The guy who loses can't recover even after ten thousand calamities... Am I not right? In fact, so-called gods and demons don't have any distinction between good and evil, only winning or losing."

Joanna and Vivian both felt a bit uneasy... To the two magicians, Du Wei's point of view was simply too presumptuous! It was even heretical and treasonous!!!

If such thoughts occurred outside... he would definitely be tried by the temple and might even be burned at the stake!

Du Wei couldn't care about that anymore. He hesitated for a moment: "Win or lose... Ah, speaking of win or lose... So, Mr. Chris, you..."

"I am the loser." Chris tilted his head: "Unfortunately, in the last war, my master lost and I was also on the losing side... So here, it's actually a prison. And I'm the prisoner here."

"I've been trapped on this island for so long...so long that I'm even starting to forget some of my memories..."

"You said... the island?" Du Wei immediately asked: "You said you were locked up on this island... So, are we also on the island now? You brought us back to the island?"

"To be precise, it's inside the island." Chris chuckled: "Or rather, inside its body."

  Du Wei's face changed color.

"Don't you understand yet......" Chris sighed: "The monster you're talking about... is actually this island! This isn't an island, it's a monster. You've all been living on its back for days now. And I... have been locked inside this monster's body... It's in charge of keeping me under guard!"

At this point, Chris waved his sleeve to stop Joanna who was about to speak: "No, no, you don't need to say anything, just listen to me first!"

"It's been too long, so long that I've even forgotten how long I've been here... And in all this time, you're not the first guests to arrive either. There have been other humans who stumbled upon this island by chance and were rescued by me as well. Among them, there were some clever ones, and some fools... And you, dear little noble, the two female mages beside you seem like the latter to me, while you appear to be one of the clever ones!"

"Who are you calling an idiot!" Joanne couldn't help but retort angrily: "For you, a demon's servant..."

"Oh, the wizard is enraged." Chris didn't get angry either, he quietly looked at Joanna with a pair of black and green eyes that seemed to radiate an eerie glow! He lightly asked Joanna: "That god... he claims that all power comes from him! All things! Natural powers, magical powers. So, you wizards are all followers of God, right? But... I, as a servant of the devil, am not a follower of any divine being! Please tell me, where does my magical power come from? Lovely little wizard, can you answer this question?"

Joanna's anger suddenly left her speechless!

Chris sighed, looking at the female magician with a pitiful gaze: "Can't answer? Then I'll tell you the answer... Because, the god you believe in, he... lied! The natural power comes from him? This is simply a huge lie!"

Joanna's face turned red with embarrassment, she felt her faith being subverted! But somehow she couldn't utter a single word of rebuttal!

Yes, she was told of the most basic tenets from the start of her magical education!

This world was created by God, and all natural powers come from God! And the magician's devout faith in the divine spirit allows him to borrow a part of the natural power from the divine spirit when casting magic!

  This is magic!

But now... a servant of the devil who doesn't believe in God at all... has such powerful magical abilities... how can this be explained? Is it that when he casts magic, it's also the power lent to him by the divine spirits?!

Otherwise... how can it be explained?!

"See, I told you. Some of them are clever... and some, are idiots." Chris's tone was old and weak, but the mocking flavor in it seemed to stimulate Joanna's heart like a needle: "You're not the first magician to come here, so when you face this question, you make such an expression, I'm not seeing it for the first time either."

Chris looked at Du Wei with a slightly calmer tone and gaze: "Cute little noble, you're an intelligent person. So I can communicate with you in an intelligent way. I've been waiting here for too long, and I'm always happy to make some deals with smart people who come here."

  "...a deal?"

"Not bad, it's a deal." Chris smiled, then the old man tapped his forehead: "Let me think, who was the last person to make a deal with me here... Ah, yes, that was a guy named Aragorn Roland!"

  "Alagon... Roland?!!"

This time it was Du Wei and the two female mages who let out a cry of surprise at the same time!!!!!

Not for anything else, just because this name is really too loud!!

Even Joanna... she was also one of Aragon's admirers... that's why this female magician chose the path of magic and martial arts!

But what surprised the three even more was that this Aragon·Roland used to be such a legendary strongman...

  More importantly...

  Aragorn!

He is the founding emperor of this Roland Empire now!

His Imperial Majesty, the Great Emperor Roland I!!! It was under his leadership that the army conquered the south and north, after decades of war, unifying countless small countries, city-states, alliances, kingdoms, principalities...   "No need to be so tense, Aragorn. Roland is the last human who came here and traded with me."
