Chapter 68: The Outcome of the War (Part 1)
A beast tribe army quietly set up camp in the mountains along the border of the Wolf Tribe's territory. In the center of the camp, a middle-aged wolf man dressed in black was leaning over a wooden table, carefully examining the map on it.
This werewolf is different from the Areda and Tiel, those powerful wolf tribe members that Liu Yu has seen before. The fur on his body is not that bloody red color but a dark brown color, and his physique is much more robust than the strong ones of the Blood Wolf Family, with solid muscles full of explosive beauty.
Next to the strong wolf tribe, there was a middle-aged Bamont with black clothes, a long sword at his waist and a full beard. Judging from his expression and facial wrinkles, he was definitely not younger than the strong wolf tribe. This middle-aged Bamont sat quietly on one side, looking at some documents.
"Dasso, the military report from Beilu Jun says they are ready. When do you think we should make our move? I'll send a flying eagle to notify them early." After a while, Dadi spoke up before Mong.
"The letter from the Great General four days ago said to start attacking tomorrow, I think they should have made their move by now. We're just making a feint anyway, might as well make our move before dawn tomorrow and help them draw some attention." The strong wolf tribe member known as Daso replied while looking at the map.
"We don't have much real combat power in our hands, you should attack with restraint and never sacrifice too many soldiers' lives." Da Di reminded Meng.
"I understand that, don't worry, there are many young men from our family in this, I don't want them to die on the battlefield." Dasso replied calmly.
"By the way, Kam, I heard your son is in the army defending the north." Dasso straightened up, not waiting for Da Di to respond before asking another question.
"Oh, you know this too? No wonder Buganing was in his uncle's temple." The big man looked at Daso with some surprise.
"There's nothing much, your son is exceptionally talented, and it's rare even among the Baimon tribe. Of course, I will pay attention to him." Dasuo said with a hint of envy.
"Although talent is a powerful thing, it's not everything. This kid wants to achieve something and still needs to work harder and experience more training. I'm quite disappointed that he couldn't follow the Grand General to Sas Province this time." Kalm said with a hint of disappointment on his face, seemingly regretful that his son Buganing couldn't participate in this surprise attack operation.
"It's not surprising, after all, Kain's unit had already been transferred to the Centaur side, and General Dasso couldn't possibly transfer Kain to the south, who would be in charge of defending the north then?" Dasso comforted Kam with a faint smile.
"I..."
"Commander, Commander." Just as Kam was about to say something else, a werewolf warrior rushed into the tent in some panic.
"What's going on?" Dasso looked at this intruding soldier with a displeased expression.
"The four elders are no longer in the tent, and I only found a note pressed under the wooden cup." The soldier said hastily, his face full of anxiety.
"Oh, let me see." Kam snatched the paper from the soldier's hand.
"Enemy" Kam glanced at it and found that there were only two words on the note.
"This can't be happening." Dasso also walked over to take a closer look at the words on the paper, his face filled with worry.
"Hehe, don't worry, the Fourth Elder is a formidable figure. With his cultivation and suitable weapons, unless it's a late-stage strong expert from the nine-tiered imperial family of Farnod, even the president of the Seven Great Fighting Spirit Guilds wouldn't be able to take him down." Kam said with a confident expression, as if this Fourth Elder was an extremely powerful existence.
"Alright, since you've said so, I'll feel at ease. However, the four elders all said they're chasing after the enemy, it seems there's a risk of exposure on our side, I think we should launch an attack before dawn." Dasso also made a prompt decision.
"Good, I'll send the message right away. The north will likely receive it by noon and launch an attack." Cam also agreed with his colleague's decision.
Before the wolf tribe soldier rushed into Daso's tent, that is, just after dusk and before the sky was completely dark, a military officer in the central castle of Fanord's direct military defense system did the same thing.
"Your Excellency, Your Excellency, I have an urgent matter to report." In a bedroom door in the castle, a Farnese officer knocked on the wooden door with some urgency.
"What's going on." The Grand Commander was wearing a set of pajamas and opened the door before turning around to walk back into the room.
"Today, twelve castles and passes have not received their security reports." Jeka calmed himself down and spoke to the Grand Commander who was sitting at a desk looking at a map of the border region.
The "slap" Grand Commander's originally calm expression vanished in an instant, he slapped the wooden table and suddenly stood up.
"What's going on? What's happening? Are those checkpoints the outermost first line of defense?" The commander asked a series of questions in a row.
"They are all the innermost, second and third lines of defense, and they are concentrated in the southern part of the entire system." Jie Ka's words were somewhat urgent, and he had to pause for a moment, but when he heard that it was an internal defense, the Grand Commander actually calmed down again, slowly sitting back into his own chair.
"It's like this, according to the rules, the evening report should be delivered before dusk, but sometimes due to some issues with the carrier pigeon it might be a bit late. I found out about this issue at dusk and thought it was just a problem with the carrier pigeon, so I waited another hour or so, but still nothing arrived, and that's when I felt something might be wrong and came to report to you, sir." Jie Ka explained the situation he had discovered.
"There's the Shehe Canyon to the south, a natural barrier that the beast tribe can't cross directly. If they were to take out our strongholds, it wouldn't make sense for them not to report back. But with so many checkpoints and no news of their safety, it's also abnormal. They don't have the guts to ignore their own troops." The commander stroked the map, his analysis tinged with a hint of gloom in the southern region.
"Send a few squad leaders, plus one or two squad kings to check these places. If it's because of the problems with the officials at these checkpoints, bring them all back and I'll deal with them personally. If there's anything unusual, don't bother investigating what it is, just return immediately." The commander-in-chief took out a token from his drawer and tossed it to Jeka.
"Obey orders." Jeka handed over the token and bowed his head to retreat. Half an hour later, the south gate of the castle was opened, and a dozen or so Fanord officers rode fast horses under the moonlight, swiftly advancing south along the highway.
Along with a red energy wave over ten meters long flashing by, at a fork in the road ahead, more than a dozen Farnode military officers who were just about to disperse and advance were blown to smithereens along with their horses. These worst of the worst martial generals didn't even have time to react before they vanished into thin air.
A dark figure suddenly appeared beside the dead Farnese officers, he coldly glanced at the corpses on the ground and stood still as if waiting for something. Before long, several more dark figures flashed around him.
"Fourth Uncle, what's going on." A black figure in the middle spoke up first. With the light of the nearly full moon, it could be seen that the owner of the voice was Liu Yu's father, Ge Ya.
"There's nothing, these officers seem to be heading south separately to investigate something, I guess Fanord has noticed something. The only one who can make Gaya call him Fourth Uncle is Aurelio Willen, Liu Yu's fourth grandfather."
"Oh, they're reflecting quickly." Gaia muttered to himself with a cold smile on his face, but his expression was relaxed as if he didn't care about anything. Behind them, several miles away on the road, a vast beastman army was rapidly advancing towards here.
"Pass down the order, the whole army will rest in the forest five miles away from the enemy for two hours, and launch a surprise attack at midnight." After a pause, Gaiya gave the command.
A black shadow beside Gaia bowed slightly and flashed towards the rear.
(It took a whole hour in this last little place and wasn't very satisfactory no matter how I wrote it, so it's even later)
