Chapter 6: Hunting and Killing
Listening to the sound of rain outside the window, Wu Xiaotian sighed endlessly.
"If only it could rain so much before the apocalypse." 3 days of heavy rain, mixed with a few snowflakes, but the snow didn't even have time to fall to the ground before being washed away by the following raindrops. Province YN suffered from a 4-year drought before the end of the world, and although some emergency measures were taken, the sky was not cooperative. Even in summer, when rainfall is usually most abundant, there were only a few scattered raindrops.
Outside, it was pouring rain, but inside the house, sweat remained. However, Wu Xiaotian's mind was not calm. "If there are still zombies in the house, they will eventually break through the door downstairs. And if they find out that someone is on the rooftop, they will definitely surround us. Although the anti-theft door is still intact now, no one knows whether it can withstand multiple zombies' siege. So clearing the zombies from the house is a must." He immediately stopped his basic physical training. Tomorrow, he would face those inhuman monsters that only knew how to attack and eat flesh again.
Before going to bed, light up a 7-yuan 1956. Thinking about what weapons to bring to clear the zombies. The long-handled chopper must be brought, the simple shield must also be brought, and the Tang knife is a must-have. After thinking about the weapons he's bringing, extinguish the cigarette butt and cover his head with the quilt. When his body heat warms up the quilt and bed sheet, Wu Xiaotian unknowingly falls asleep.
In dreams, it seems as if reality is just a nightmare, while the dream world is the real one.
"Rumble, rumble" Wu Xiaotian was woken up by the thunder from the sky.
Get up, jog around the living room for a while, feeling the body gradually warming up, find all the weapons brought yesterday, and put * in the pocket of the pants when leaving. With a shield hanging from his left hand, a long-handled chopper in his right hand, and a Tang knife slung at his waist. From the reflection in the mirror, Wu Xiaotian still couldn't confirm that it was himself, as if he had grown taller! From the original 174 cm to nearly 180 cm. His face used to have a silly smile, but now it's all cold and stern.
Coming back to his senses, Wu Xiaotian remembered what he was supposed to do and arrived at the staircase just as the anti-theft door was being opened. A strong stench made him feel nauseous. Suppressing the churning in his stomach, he tried not to look at the mutilated corpse.
Previously, going down 10 flights of stairs was nothing, but now it's more difficult than running a kilometer. Enduring the intense nausea, he finally made it to the fourth floor. Among the four suite doors, two were open. If there were zombies inside, they would definitely rush out upon smelling humans, so Wu Xiaotian was certain that these two open doors led to suites without zombies. However, how could he determine if the closed doors had zombies inside? He saw Wu Xiaotian separate his fingers and let blood drip out, but the strong self-healing ability caused the wound to recover before any blood came out. Looking at his already healed finger, Wu Xiaotian felt a wave of frustration. With his eyes closed, he fiercely cut a gash on his palm.
Deep red blood dripped from the fingertips to the ground, and when the blood appeared in the air, a harsh howl was heard coming from the room behind.
It was settled, the prepared key was taken out and inserted into the keyhole with the left hand holding the shield. The key was turned and the door opened. Then, with a sudden kick, the door was kicked open, but the zombie hadn't had time to move behind the door yet. Wu Xiaotian burst in, silently scolding himself for his poor timing, thinking that if he had kicked the door 5 seconds later, the zombie would have been stuck between the door and the wall. But the zombie didn't care about Wu Xiaotian's thoughts, its starving wails turned into a fierce pounce towards Wu Xiaotian, who was now standing at the doorway with his weapon at the ready.
Wu Xiaotian saw the zombie pounce over, regardless of three seven twenty-one, his right hand holding a long-handled axe chopped out fiercely. The result is probably what everyone expected.
But then the hatchet "clanged" and actually chopped into the wall of the door frame, directly stunning Wu Xiaotian's tiger mouth numb. The fierce impact seemed to have been heard by the zombies as well, but they didn't care; no matter how loud the sound was, it couldn't be louder than the temptation of food.
In a moment of desperation, Wu Xiaotian abandoned his long-handled machete and instead used his left hand to hold up his shield against the zombie's first attack. The zombie had no human self-preservation instincts and didn't waste any extra energy protecting itself. As a result, its strength was even greater than that of an average normal man. Although Wu Xiaotian managed to block the zombie's attack, he was still knocked back two steps by the force of it, his Tang knife slipping out of its scabbard.
What a fine young man, only to see that Wu Xiaotian either swept or hacked or slashed. With one sweep, the undead's chest was torn open, and its thoracic cavity was exposed. The organs inside were still weakly pulsing. Two hacks, and the undead's shoulder blades slid off its body. Three slashes, and the undead's disgusting head was severed from its torso.
Black blood splattered all over Wu Xiaotian, but he didn't care. Because what he cared about was that he could face the zombies head-on and kill them head-on, although the process was thrilling.
No matter the corpse that was cut into three pieces, Wu Xiaotian entered the room and found it in a state of chaos. He carefully searched for useful items for himself.
"Good stuff" was all he saw, as Wu Xiaotian held a monocular telescope in his hand. Although he had also found a binocular one at home, the front convex lens had been smashed, while this monocular telescope was still intact. Upon closer inspection of the telescope, it turned out that there were some interesting accessories attached to it. Turning back to look at the dead zombie, it seemed that this old fellow had a thing for this sort of stuff when he was alive.
Put down the telescope and found some food, but it had expired and smelled bad.
Picking up the large chopper, he arrived at the third floor, only to see that several suites were tightly locked (digging a pit to let the pig's feet jump). The old method, reopening the palm that had already recovered. Voices came from inside three suites. Wu Xiaotian was very relieved because his father was afraid of tenants' property and financial theft, so every suite door used anti-theft doors. Anti-theft doors were no problem, but one of the suite doors was only slightly ajar, while Wu Xiaotian thought it was tightly locked.
He opened the door with his key, mentally counting down "10, 9, 8...3, 2, 1. Now!" With a fierce kick, the zombie was sandwiched between the wall and the iron gate. Wu Xiaotian charged into the room, but the zombie was only stuck for a moment before seeing food enter, and it frantically pounced forward.
The long-handled axe changed from chopping to stabbing. The left hand held a shield, and the right hand's long-handled axe suddenly stabbed towards the zombie's neck.
With a "whoosh" sound, the zombie's neck was directly pierced by the sharp blade of the axe and severed.
He let out a deep breath. Looking at the zombie he had just killed with the least effort from the doomsday outbreak to now, a sense of accomplishment arose in his heart.
