Chapter 2 Despair

  Chapter 2: Despair

Wu Xiaotian was still rejoicing and calculating how long his supplies would last when the anti-theft door in the stairwell made a "bang, bang, bang" sound. Were there still people alive in the house? When he came to the stairwell and looked out through the peephole, Wu Xiaotian was directly scared back against the wall.

A zombie outside the anti-theft door was crashing into it with his already senseless body. The sound of the zombie hitting the anti-theft door was particularly clear in the quiet corridor, and Wu Xiaotian knew from the bio-movies and bio-games he had seen before that if he couldn't stop it, more zombies would be attracted. Now there's no way to deal with it, otherwise he will be like the man on the car, dismembered and eaten.

He mustered up the courage to look again from the cat's eye, and saw that the zombie's face was scratched by something, with its ferocious teeth exposed in the air. The eyes had lost their warmth and wisdom of the past, leaving only a red color filling the eyeballs, and there were also bloodstains on the face. It seemed as if there was an archenemy inside the anti-theft door, desperately hitting it. Wu Xiaotian recognized him, he was a tenant who rented a house from himself, a graphic designer. Because both of them were otaku, they had a lot in common, but now one was human and the other's every move was just to eat him.

Fear came like a tide, "I'm going to die, I'll be eaten by it." Wu Xiaotian was scared and fell to the ground again. "No, I won't die, I want to live to see my parents. Isn't it just an animal without thinking? Can't I, a living person, defeat it?" Thinking of this, Wu Xiaotian got up again, thinking about how to get rid of this undead creature when a flash of inspiration struck him, yes, that's what he would do.

Ran quickly into the tool room, over 80 cm of steel plate, three wooden sticks of varying lengths, a triangular iron brick. Looked around and seemed to be missing something, no weapon, what to do? Ran to the rooftop, found an axe used for chopping firewood before, but the handle seemed a bit short, however, the "bang bang bang" sound was getting louder and louder, if the door was broken, it would be certain death.

But Wu Xiaotian didn't think that if the anti-theft door was so easy to knock open, it wouldn't be called an anti-theft door.

Wu Xiaotian ran to the stairwell when the anti-theft door was still intact, but there seemed to be some faint sounds. Never mind. He placed the longest wooden stick against the wall horizontally, one at a 70° angle, and the last one vertically at a 90° angle, propping up the 70° angled stick. Then he put the triangular iron brick on top of the horizontal stick that was supporting the 70° angled stick. Taking a deep breath, he suddenly pulled open the door.

The anti-theft door creaked as it was pushed to a 70° angle, and the door opened at an angle of about 30°. With a loud clang, the steel plate was pushed onto the door frame, and with a swift kick, it was secured in place. The zombies, who had been trying to break down the door for a long time, suddenly saw it open, and quickly stretched out their hands, or rather, their instincts as high-level animals took over, but they couldn't grab Wu Xiaotian. As they squeezed half of their body through the doorway, just as they were about to reach the most delicious food, an axe came crashing down from above, splitting the zombie's skull in two.

Wu Xiaotian used all his strength to chop, but the zombie seemed not to be dead yet. With a final burst of energy, he swung his axe and chopped again, but this time it happened to hit the zombie's shoulder. Black blood splattered everywhere. Wu Xiaotian felt something flew into his mouth as he shouted, but he didn't care. If the zombie wasn't killed, then he would die. His strength was gone, really gone, was he going to die? His mind involuntarily recalled his entire life.

Childhood parental love, primary school teacher's guidance, middle school secret crush, high school brothers, university brothers, and her. The hardships of working life, and the time spent as a homebody. If I were to die, there would be no friends, no brothers, no her, no parents.

"NO!" he roared, using some unknown strength. Frantically chopping at the zombie. One chop, not dead? Two chops, still not dead? TMD I'll chop you 100 times and see if you're dead or not! Roaring, frantic, one chop after another, black blood, rotten flesh, yellowish brain matter, withered internal organs. Turning into chunks of meat, splattering everywhere. Wu Xiaotian's face became a flower face, some blood even splashing into his mouth. But he didn't know, nor did he care. His goal was to destroy this zombie, thoroughly destroy it. Regardless of spirit or flesh.

Dead...? The hand grasping the axe suddenly dropped, and the feet pressing against the steel plate also went numb. Not dead? Right, I'm not dead. Never mind those numb arms and legs.

Leaning against the wall, laughing wildly at the sky.

But behind the fallen steel plate, a pair of cold eyes were staring at him, staring at the most delicious food.

A sharp pain in his foot made Wu Xiaotian stop laughing, and he looked down to see a female zombie with only the upper half of her body left, grabbing his calf with her pale and gruesome claws. It turned out it wasn't just one zombie! The female zombie had only half of her body left, with her intestines still stuck on the stairs, while the remaining half had already entered the door. Wu Xiaotian was furious, wondering why he hadn't kept pushing against the steel plate.

The female corpse was just about to use those beautiful lips to kiss the most delicious food when Wu Xiaotian beheaded her with an axe. A black thread crawled up the handle of the axe and onto Wu Xiaotian's hand, but the warm feeling didn't catch his attention. What he cared about was that he had been caught, and he was going to become a corpse too.

Blood, flesh, brain matter, internal organs, and the decapitated female corpse, even in death, her beautiful eyes on that head were still staring at him. The gruesome scene was all over the place, with the intestines of the female corpse hanging from the stairs outside. "Ah" Wu Xiao Tian leaned against the wall, starting to vomit. Tears and vomit poured out desperately. Only after vomiting up bile did he slowly lean back against the wall. He casually wiped away the filth at the corner of his mouth, a sense of desolation washing over him.

"Even if I become a zombie, I won't go out and harm people." Such thoughts echoed in my mind. I threw the axe aside and with great effort pushed the two zombies out of the door, closing it behind them. I came to the bathroom, looking at myself covered in blood, and couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh. At the moment when I was happiest, I was knocked down into hell - what kind of pain is that? Only those who have experienced it know.

Washed a basin of water, took a bath and changed clothes.

Like a walking corpse, I came to the window and looked at the trash all over the ground, dancing in the wind. There were charred bones, shredded flesh, and burnt coffins. And those wandering zombies, upon closer inspection, some of them were even familiar faces. Thinking that I would become one of them too, I cursed out loud "Damn this doomsday".

Slowly walking into the bedroom, coming to the bedside table, picking up a *, slowly aiming at the artery on his own hand.

Just as he was about to cut off his own artery, intense pain erupted from his body. His internal organs felt like they were melting, his bones felt like a hammer slowly pounding, and his blood was racing wildly like uncontrolled traffic. The worst part was his head, which felt like a drill bit boring into his forehead. Wu Xiaotian wanted to pass out, but this seemed like a luxury. The pain ravaged every inch of his body like a tsunami. In his mind, he thought of his parents, how he would never be able to fulfill his filial duties in this life. He thought of his brothers, how they would never drink together again. Later, when they saw him, they might kill him, or perhaps they wouldn't be able to bear it. As he thought about this, the drill bit seemed to finally pierce through his skull, and Wu Xiaotian finally passed out in extreme agony.
