Althea, the Goddess of Light, sat on her throne, a troubled expression on her face as she contemplated the situation she'd found herself in. With one hand, she twirled one of her golden locks between her fingers. What a mess, she thought. I can't believe Erebus is doing this. As the Goddess of Light, and mother to all of the lesser gods she had a near perfect view of everything happening in the mortal world below at all times. However, her ex-husband, the God of Darkness, Erebus had the ability to hide his workings from her, shrouded in darkness. That was why she'd been unaware of the cult of followers he'd been secretly building until her Pope, the head of her Holy Church uncovered the organization and prayed to her to fix it.

After she confronted Erebus in the Divine Realm, he spat at her. "You've ruled for too long, Althea. It's high time I had my turn!" Following this bold proclamation, he turned and stormed off to the Castle of Night, his divine residence, where she could not follow. The next time she checked on the mortal realm, she saw that his cult had successfully taken over a large island and established the Kingdom of Darkness. As far as she could tell, they were gathering forces to war with her own people, and with the dark forces supplied by her husband, there was a good chance they would win.
As Althea ruminated on the situation, she realized that there was only one thing left to do. She must summon a hero from another world to lead her people to victory.
