“Doctor, when are you going to take a look at my injury again?”
The young woman paused and turned to look at the tall figure beside her. This was not one of the main streets, but it was still a very busy area since there were a few popular restaurants around and the person next to her was very conspicuous because of his facial scar.
“Come closer, let me tell you,” she said so he leaned in with a smile.
Without warning, the tall man suddenly received a smack to the back of his head making the others around them almost laugh.
“In fact, I have a lotta surface area for you to put your hands on,” he assured.
His subordinates knew their boss liked beauty, but he seemed too fascinated with this one that might possibly kill him. So fascinated that he had obviously lost his brain a little and they wished to never be located by this type of love.
“There’s something wrong with you,” she said as they continued walking.
“It’s what I was saying about needing another consultation with you. Anyway, it doesn’t make me any less useful, see you’re asking for my services now, right?”
“Correction, I asked your brother for a favour. You, are just an errand boy.”
“Your words truly hurt me in all the right places,” commented the man as they continued walking towards the restaurant.
In an exquisite private room occupied by two people, the conversation paused.
“My ancestor, could you please condescend to listen to a mere mortal like me for a few moments,” said a woman’s voice in the most languid fashion imaginable which barely brought the young Lord’s attention back to the room for a few seconds.
“I’m listening, I’m listening,” he insisted but he was still staring out the window clearly looking at the street below.
The woman opposite him finally turned her attention to the scene outside and was surprised by the one of the protagonists. She emptied her slender smoking pipe as she watched.
“Hmm, that looks like Tariq, he’s the younger brother of the current head of the Crows.”
Whoever had not heard about the Crows had to be living under a rock, especially in Jaroya. It was just that Tariq’s reputation preceded him, if the leader was known as the calm and cold gentlemen then he was the unstable counterpart to that. How could it be this man with such a silly smile after being smacked by a little girl?
“Are you sure that’s the second-in-command?”
“I’ve dealt with his brother a few times and sometimes they’d show up together. I’m surprised that there’s something you don’t know,” teased the woman.
“How could I ever know more than my big Aunt?” casually replied the Lord with a sly smile and she made a face before turning back to the scene outside. He knew comments on age would leave her speechless every time.

“If you didn’t know that was him, then what were you staring at?”
“An acquaintance,” he said with a cheeky little smile while pulling on a string located conveniently close to his seat.
It didn’t take long before there was a knock on the door. An older man entered the private room with a smile on his face.
“The Lord has a request?”
“There’s a party that just came in with a veiled young lady and a man with a scar on face. Add a little more to the room courtesy of the restaurant.”
“Yes, my Lord, I’ll add according to their preferences.”
The manager walked out of the room, sweating just a little. Although the young Lord smiled and seemed very easy going, there was always something about the young man that made him nervous.
The party that had come in was also very interesting but not easy to mess with. They were not usual visitors to the restaurant but had directly asked for a private room as soon as they stepped in, had guards outside their room and now even the young Lord was showing them special attention. As curious as the manager was, sometimes it was better not to know what the hidden giants in the capital were up to.
“A small thing like that is barely a favour Doctor.”
“Well, whatever you want to call it. Just make sure to do it properly.”
Tariq smiled and then continued wolfing down his meal. Strangely enough, they had somehow received some complimentary items from the menu.
Kamaria didn’t think too much of it. She assumed that the person who had added to their order was likely someone trying to please Tariq. The man was entirely too conspicuous after all and the people who mattered would know who he was.
Suddenly there was a flurry of activity that could be heard even from the private rooms. The sound was mainly muffled inside the room, but the rushing footsteps could be clearly heard by the two over vigilant people.
“I thought stupid shit didn’t happen in these fancy places,” commented Tariq as he continued eating.
Al-Waha was not a very old restaurant but in the few years since its conception, it had managed to overtake a few establishments in the Capital. It was one of the few restaurants that had earned themselves a genuine imperial seal due to the service and carefully prepared cuisine.
The exquisite restaurant focused on higher end dining experiences, but it was different from most places in that if the person had money, they would be welcomed into the establishment regardless of their status. This brought high end dining to all the people even someone who had saved up to take their family out to a nice meal, not just bored rich young masters, and arrogant nobles.
What was more important than anything, at least for Kamaria was that the food was simply scrumptious. Most of these restaurants were just overpriced without the good food to show for it. And now someone was interrupting her terrific meal.
The noise continued until Tariq couldn’t ignore it anymore.
“What the hell is going on out there?” he shouted.
One of the little henchmen opened the door.
“Looks like someone is complainin bout the food being poisoned.”
Kamaria paused as she was eating. Poisoned? It was highly unlikely unless this was just one of those tricks from other restaurants to discredit their competition or a personal vendetta against the person affected. Also, someone would already be dead already if it was real poison.
“This person was poisoned, and they still have the energy to be making this much of a fuss?” she asked.
“Seem like they started itchin or somethin now some people are panickin,” replied the man.
Kamaria rolled her eyes before tidying herself and securing her veil again. Just when she thought that she had a moment of peace. Unless someone was really dying, she would ignore these things sometimes otherwise she would have been busy looking at patients all day every time she went out but this time, she was a little annoyed and wanted to see what was going on.
“Make sure they pack up our meal,” she said while walking ahead.
“You heard her, get the waiters here to deal with this and the bill,” casually said Tariq while dutifully following the shorter person in front of him.
