Chapter 49: The Devils Are Not Fools
The night was falling from the sky, but Xu Hongming had not returned yet.
Hao couldn't sit still anymore and paced back and forth anxiously in the room.
"Mr. Xu hasn't come back yet? Nothing's happened to him, has it?" Kou Hao walked over to the window every few minutes and looked outside, repeating these two sentences each time.
Dong Li Mao appeared very calm, sitting on a bamboo chair wiping his gun. He took out the weapons from Xu Hongming's wine cabinet and checked them one by one, wiping each of them clean. Seemingly calm as still water, but in his heart he was more anxious than Gou Hao. He had made up his mind that if Xu Hongming didn't arrive within half an hour, he would have to take Gou Hao into the city to rescue people.
Li Yuanyuan went upstairs to sleep again after Xu Hongming left, and she still hadn't gone downstairs.
Half an hour passed, outside the window, night had already shrouded the entire land, after a day of rain, it finally quieted down like a sorrowful woman who had cried out all her tears.
Dong Li Mao wiped the last handgun clean, inserted the magazine, stood up, walked to the window, pulled down the curtains and spread them on the bamboo floor.
"We must act now." Dong Li Mao said, putting the wiped weapon on the window curtain.
"Hasn't Commander Lian been waiting for Mr. Xue?" Gu Hao asked, stopping his footsteps.
"It's all right." Dong Li Mao pulled up the four corners of the window curtain, tied a knot, and carried it out of the house.
"Stop right there!" Li Yuanyuan's voice echoed from the stairs.
Dong Li Mao turned around, seeing her pull her hair back and walk down the stairs with a leisurely pace: "With just the two of you, it's basically impossible to rescue those six people. Even if you're lucky enough to rescue them, it's likely that you'll have difficulty escaping Yangguang City."
"So far, there's no news about your people. We can't just sit here and wait like fools. Who knows, while we're waiting, those little devils might have already tortured my brothers to the point of being unrecognizable." Dong Li Mao couldn't bear the thought of his six brothers possibly being subjected to Japanese brutality.
"Yes, Miss Li, Lian Zhang is right, we can't wait any longer!" Gu Hao stamped his foot and said.
"Listen to me, just wait a bit longer, I believe Mr. Xu will get in touch with our people." Li Yuanyuan walked up to Dong Limao and said: "Do you know where they are being held? Is it clear what the situation is like in the city? You're not familiar with the place, even if you can sneak into the city, such a big Yangon City, where will you go to find your brother?"
Gu Hao's eyes widened as he looked at Dong Li Mao and said, "Commander, Miss Li is right. After we enter the city, where will we find our brothers?"
At this time, the car engine sound that had been waiting for several hours finally rang out, and the light from the headlights pierced through the window.
"I knew they'd come." Li Yuanyuan's mouth curved into a smile as she quickly walked to the window and looked out.
Xu Hong indeed brought a man with him, a bespectacled and refined gentleman.
"Dong Lianchang, Miss Li, you must be anxious. The roads in and out of the city have been blocked, so I had to take a detour, which delayed me for some time." After finishing speaking, Xu Hongming walked over to the tea table, picked up a cup of water, and drank it all in one gulp. Only then did he introduce the person he had brought with him:
"Let me introduce... " Xu Hongming hadn't finished speaking when the man with glasses spoke up:
"Mr. Xue, no need for introductions, we're all familiar with each other. My name is Wu Tong, and I was sent by Mr. Xiao." Without shaking hands with Dong Li Mao and the others, he surprisingly took off his right shoe, holding the sole in one hand and the upper in the other, and tore open the black leather shoes that were in his hands. He pulled out a neatly folded piece of paper from between the layers.
Dong Li Mao and others initially thought that the person who came was Xiao Sheng, but unexpectedly it was another person. They all focused their attention on his hands.
"This is a map of the Japanese army's deployment in Yangon, clearly marking the location of every important institution within the city." Wu Tong spread the map flat on the table and pointed to a place circled in red: "Here, on the surface it's the East Asia Trading Company, a trading company run by Japanese people, but in reality, it's the secret intelligence agency of the Japanese army stationed in Yangon. Inside there is an underground room. Our people have received accurate information through reliable channels that the six captured commandos are being held in the underground room of the East Asia Trading Company."
"Great!" Dong Li Mao blurted out.
"But entering East Asia Trading is not that easy." Wu Tong pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose and said.
"It goes without saying, if it were possible to enter as freely as strolling through a shopping mall, it wouldn't be the Japanese devils' intelligence agency's base." Dong Li Mao carefully examined the map with circles drawn around the surrounding streets and alleys, speaking without lifting his head.
"Forcefully rushing in definitely won't work, gotta think of...". Li Yuanyuan's hands were clasped together in front of her chest, when suddenly she thought of something and clapped her hands: "I've got it! I have a way to get you guys in smoothly!"
Dong Li Mao raised his head and looked at Li Yuanyuan, asking: "Tell me? What's the good idea?"
"To get this done, we'll need a few more gadgets." Li Yuanyuan mysteriously hinted.
"Hey, Miss Li, don't be so anxious! Just say it out loud and get it over with!" Gu Hao said, stamping his foot.
"Mr. Wu, can you get Japanese military uniforms and prisoner-of-war cars?" Li Yuanyuan asked Wu Tong.
"This... Mr. Xiao should have a way, but it's probably very difficult in a short period of time." Wu Tong replied uncertainly.
"Sister, are you saying we should disguise ourselves as Japanese soldiers and sneak in?" Dong Li Mao thought that Li Yuanyuan had come up with the kind of artistic method often seen in movies, almost always appearing in anti-Japanese themed films and TV dramas.
Dong Li Mao had already thought of this method that always works in movies and TV shows, but it's not that simple now. First, the Japanese military uniforms are not something you can just grab; secondly, the Japanese army is not as foolish as often portrayed in movies and TV shows; and most importantly, how could a small island nation's military humiliate the great China with its 400 million people to the point of national destruction, and still dare to challenge the United States, a globally recognized military power? It's clear that they didn't grow up drinking urine and eating feces. As soon as their sentry asks for the password, your true form will be exposed. If you play it like those fools in movies and TV shows, you might not only fail to defeat the Japanese devils but also end up playing yourself into destruction.
"Am I a fool? If the Japanese devils were so easy to deceive, they wouldn't have defeated our hundreds of millions of troops, making them scatter like ants without a nest! Don't worry, I guarantee you can safely enter the underground room of the East Asia Trading Company!" Li Yuanyuan continued to build suspense: "However, we still need to find a few people to help us."
"It's all arranged," Xu Hongming replied: "They should be with Mr. Wu's people now."
"We also have a few people who can join this action." Wu Tong took over and said.
"No, Mr. Wu, your people can't be used. If they fail, it will destroy the entire underground organization, and it's not worth sacrificing these party elites for a few soldiers." Li Yuanyuan said this while glancing at Dong Limao, implying: I'm saying this to you. Then she continued: "If Commander Dong hadn't insisted on rescuing those six captured assault team members, I wouldn't have contacted you so easily. It was because you timely obtained the information about the Japanese army's plan to use bacterial bombs that we avoided a disaster. On behalf of all officers and soldiers stationed in Dongguan, I sincerely thank you."
Dong Li Mao finally understood that the Japanese army was going to use bacterial bombs, and it was Wu Tong and those underground heroes who provided the intelligence. He admired these people from the bottom of his heart, this kind of life is not something anyone can do.
"How shall we enter the city?" Dong Li Mao asked Wu Tong.
"We've taken a boat, our people have already prepared it and are waiting by the shore." Wu Tong pushed his glasses up and said: "Let's go."
