Chapter 88: Rest and Wait for Orders
Arrived at the 66th Army's garrison location, it was past 10 o'clock in the morning.
Before the breakout, the 66th army had received orders from the headquarters of the Burma Expeditionary Force to receive the British troops who were rescued from the siege, several hundred journalists and missionaries who were rescued by the special agent company, and give them special treatment.
No matter whether they were government officials or military reporters, they all surrounded the group of people who had been rescued from the brink of death, while the special forces team was left out in the cold. However, their modified military trucks attracted a lot of curious soldiers to watch, each one marveling as if admiring new weapons. No one could believe that a company of over 100 soldiers and officers managed to rescue 500-600 unarmed journalists and missionaries from being surrounded by the Japanese army without suffering any casualties. They crowded around the dozen or so trucks riddled with bullet holes, chattering excitedly:
……
"What a creative idea! They actually used wooden boards to save so many people's lives!"
"It's okay to block bullets, but if you encounter a shell or an incendiary bomb, it'll be terrible!"
"I think the firepower configuration is very unique, you see, there are shooting holes in the front and on both sides, each with a machine gun, the truck is moving forward, sweeping along the way, and there are more than a dozen of them. I'm afraid that wherever they pass by, if there's no cover, ants within 100 meters will be hard to escape!"
"Did you see those jeeps? Charging with such an unobstructed jeep is not something ordinary people can do! Let alone breaking out of the encirclement of the little devils!"
"I heard it was done by Captain Dong Jiacheng of the Fifth Army's special operations company! How awesome! If I could follow such a fearless and great captain, even dying at the hands of those little devils would be worth it! When I get to the underworld, I'll still be a heroic Han who killed devils with honor!"
……
The brothers of the Special Forces squad, except for a few who were busy refueling and checking vehicles, all lay down in the truck compartment to sleep.
Dong Li Mao leaned against the side of the jeep, smoking a cigarette and coldly watching the crowd of onlookers and the reporters surrounded by them. In the back seat of the jeep, Pan Guangzu was snoring loudly, leaning against the chair. Hu San stood at the front passenger door, yawning continuously. Dong Li Mao didn't sleep, nor did he dare to sleep.
An officer walked quickly towards Dong Li Mao, stood at attention and saluted.
"Comrade Dong Lianchang, this is a telegram that the Military Department just received. It's for you." The officer said, handing over the telegram with both hands to Dong Li Mao who was leaning against the jeep, then gave another military salute and turned around to leave.
Dong Li Mao Meng took a deep drag on his cigarette, flicked the butt to the ground and stepped on it several times before reading the telegram: The Special Operations Unit is to remain in place and await further orders!
"Company Commander, is there another new task?" Hu San asked as he walked around the front of the jeep.
Dong Li Mao clenched the telegram in his palm and said, "Little Hu, wake up Fatso and have him lead a team to find some houses that can provide shelter from wind and rain. We need to rest at the 66th Army's garrison."
"Rest? So we don't have to escort journalists and missionaries to the military department?" asked Hu San.
"This is good news, otherwise, they would only be sent to their graves!" Dong Li Mao calculated the time, getting closer and closer to the day when the Japanese army would sneak attack on December 13th. He was thinking about how not to bring his brothers back to the Fifth Army's base. It's really a case of "sleeping and having someone hand you a pillow", this telegram came at just the right time.
Elizabeth Terry squeezed out of the crowd, looked around, saw Dong Li Mao by the jeep, ran over with a swing of her camera on her chest, bouncing up and down with her soft breasts.
Dong Li Mao was admiring a slow-running "mare", his eyes fixed on Tai Li's bouncing chest, the cotton grey shirt she wore had two buttons undone in front, Dong Li Mao truly hoped that her foreign breasts would jump out from the opening of the shirt.
Hu San has already woken up Pan Guangzu.
"Are we leaving?" Pan Guangzu rubbed his eyes and asked Hu San.
"We're not leaving, just received a telegram from the military department, asking our special forces company to rest and wait for orders on the spot. The company commander asked you to bring a few brothers to find some rooms to live in." Hu San's reply was coincidentally heard by Tai Li who ran over.
"Are we not leaving?" Terry asked Dong Li Mao with a tilted head.
"Does Miss Tai Li want to be surrounded by the Japanese army again?" Dong Li Mao's face had a mysterious smile, and his eyes looked at Tai Li's chest again: "Here is safer than the Fifth Army base."
"Hasn't the East District been occupied by the Expeditionary Force? Why isn't it safe there?" Terry, a war correspondent, knew something about the Expeditionary Force's situation: "Besides, I just heard an officer here say that the Japanese army's encirclement of Renanqiao has been broken through by the 113th Regiment of the New 38th Division, and the besieged British troops are crossing the river to break out of the encirclement one after another."
"These are just temporary local victories and will not change the overall defeat of the expeditionary army. As early as a few days ago, on my way back from Rangoon to the Fifth Army, I knew that the Japanese troops in the Dongguan front line had already been quietly mobilizing, and an entire division of little devils would pass through the primitive forests along the Sino-Burmese border, cutting off the transportation and supply lines behind the expeditionary army. The hundreds of thousands of troops will be defeated!" Dong Limao sighed deeply.
"Dong Lianchang, this is your voluntary speculation, how can this be possible? At present, the Allied forces have taken the initiative on the Thai-Burmese battlefield and have been beating the Japanese troops back, not even giving them a chance to breathe. How could an entire division of Japanese troops suddenly appear in the rear of the expeditionary army by crossing the Thai-Burmese border through the virgin forest? This is absolutely impossible!" Tai Li shook her head repeatedly, who would believe what Dong Lianchang said.
"Hehe... I know you won't believe it, no one will believe that the Japanese army defeated the expeditionary force at this time. Even our Commander-in-Chief Chiang, probably wouldn't believe in his dreams that the situation would change completely in a few days." Dong Limao smiled wryly and said: "Let's not talk about things we can't control. If Miss Tai Li is willing, I'll accompany you to take a stroll around the city."
The garrison of the 66th Army was in a small town near the Chinese border in northern Burma, where the war had not yet arrived and people seemed to be celebrating the prosperity brought by the arrival of the large Chinese army.
"Alright, let's go then." Terri walked forward with a big smile and linked her arm through Dong Limao's.
The small town has only a few streets, with shops on both sides of each street. The crowds coming and going are mostly Chinese soldiers in uniform, occasionally you can see a few American or British military personnel in uniform, some soldiers holding a bottle of wine in one hand and a local prostitute in the other, shuttling through the crowds on the streets.
Today is a good weather, everyone's face has a smile like sunny weather.
Tai Li's left hand was still holding onto Dong Li Mao's right arm, while her right hand held a glutinous rice roasted beef bun that Dong Li Mao had bought from a Burmese father and daughter on the street. Dong Li Mao had already swallowed several mouthfuls of the bun into his stomach and was now licking the grains of rice stuck between his fingers with his tongue. It seemed as though both of them were infected by the joyful atmosphere of the people passing by, and they looked especially happy.
Dong Li's right arm would always intentionally or unintentionally touch Tai Li's soft and fluffy left chest, his heart racing with excitement as Tai Li strolled down the street, weaving through the crowd, looking carefree and not caring about the gazes of those around them.
When the two arrived at a larger tobacco shop, a thin man with a yellow face came up smiling and said something in Burmese that Dong Limao couldn't understand. He seemed to be pulling customers. Thai Li understood some Burmese, she looked at Dong Limao's tired face, then said a few words to the man, who immediately nodded and smiled, leading the way towards the entrance.
"Miss Tai, where is he taking us?" Dong Li Mao's nostrils picked up a scent he had never smelled before. The smell was enticing and slightly like the smell of burnt offerings. He didn't know it was a large opium den because the sign above the entrance was also in Burmese.
"Just follow him and you'll see," Terri said with a mysterious smile.
"What did you just say to him?" Dong Li Mao looked around and was pulled by Tai Li towards the inside.
"I asked him if there was a better place to sleep." Terri replied.
"Sleep? You mean the two of us..." After walking for so long, Dong Li Mao's elbow kept accidentally touching Elizabeth Taylor's soft left chest. The kind of man's crooked thoughts had already made him restless, and when he heard Elizabeth Taylor mention sleep, he couldn't resist anymore. If he hadn't had that romantic relationship with Li Yuanyuan, Dong Li Mao might have still been able to hold back. But now, he was no longer a virgin, but a real man's body. His body had already reacted when they broke out of the Japanese encirclement. This wasn't his shameless initiative, but rather an invitation from this international friend. If he refused, that would be unilaterally damaging the deep friendship between the two countries. Moreover, as a Chinese man, he couldn't appear weak in front of a foreign woman, that would lose face for Chinese men. Thinking like this, Dong Li Mao felt like he was representing the country's men to complete a mission, and followed Elizabeth Taylor into the big smokehouse.
