Chapter 23 Two Reasons
Xia Ya carefully searched the entire goblin tribe and found a total of 164 goblin corpses, regardless of age. All the corpses were fatal blows, apparently these goblins had resisted but failed to form an effective counterattack against their enemy.
These goblins also tried to escape, but judging from the hoof prints surrounding the tribe on all sides, those who attacked the goblins had much more mobility than the goblins and there was no way for them to escape.
Many of them were shot dead on the wall while trying to climb over it and escape.
Xia Ya pulled an arrow out of a corpse and weighed it in her hand.
Armor-piercing arrow?
His eyes lit up. The arrow's tail was made of metal, the body was slightly heavy, and it was specially used to pierce through the enemy's armor. In Ye Huo Town, only those powerful mercenary groups would use this kind of arrow, but even then, they would only use a small amount when encountering strong enemies.
And yet...the people attacking here are actually using such precious arrows to kill these lowly earth spirits?
Sharp weapons, brutal and ruthless slaughter, swift and deadly horsemen, one-hit killing skills...
Moreover, they slaughtered over a hundred of the Di Clan's people in one go, not leaving a single survivor. This kind of style is rarely seen even in the Wildfire Plains. Probably only the infamous Black Tribes on the Wildfire Plains would do such things.
But... even the dark tribes wouldn't waste their energy coming to slaughter the dwarves - the dwarves are like a bunch of beggars, robbing them is completely unprofitable, unless you're interested in the various suspicious dried meats that the dwarves make.
Along the periphery of this tribe, Xia Ya walked a circle and stopped her footsteps, closing her eyes to think for a moment. The horse hoof prints, bloodstains, footprints, and corpses left on the ground seemed chaotic, but in Xia Ya's heart, a faint thread quickly cleared out.
The hoof prints, combined with the distribution of the goblin corpses and even their direction of fall, immediately reminded Xia Ya of some originally vague memories.
It seems... I remember reading some yellowed old books belonging to that old man at first, there were similar descriptions in them.
Xia Ya opened his eyes, at this moment the face of this turtle was solemn, he walked around the tribe again, and sorted out a roughly clear thought in his mind.
More than twenty people, no more than thirty, all cavalry, with archers, skilled in archery. They were divided into three teams, one team blocked the exit at the entrance of the tribe, broke through the gate and killed their way in, forcing the earth spirits to jump over the wall and scatter. The other two teams were horse troops, taking advantage of the situation to drive along both sides of the tribe's earthen walls, chasing after the escaping earth spirits, shooting and killing some with arrows, then riding horses to catch up and slaughter those who escaped. These people had excellent weapons, and their martial skills were obviously superior to ordinary mercenaries.
And horse riding is great too!
This can be seen from the fact that they can ride horses over the not-too-short earthen wall.
Less than thirty people cleared more than a hundred goblins, with zero casualties on their side, and without letting a single goblin escape. Such well-trained combat tactics are probably unmatched even by the most notorious Black Wind Gang in the Wildfire Plains. Those Black Wind Gang members may be ruthless, but they don't necessarily possess this kind of swift and deadly combat skill.
His mind was racing with thoughts, and Xia Ya even felt a suffocating sense of oppression. He took several deep breaths to barely suppress the underlying unease.
"What's up? How is it?"
Watching Xia Ya walk back, the poor worm seemed to be unable to stand firmly, her face was pale, and even cold sweat came out of her forehead, she hastily asked Xia Ya.
"What else can we do? We're all dead." Xia Ya slung the axe over her shoulder and saw that Kui's face was pale: "Kui, why is your face so white?"
"Uh...the wound hurts a bit."
"What's wrong with your leg?"
"Hmm... it's a bit cold."
Xia Ya looked at Keren Chong with a serious expression, then suddenly smiled and walked up to her. He stretched out his big hand and pressed it forcefully on her head, messing up her hair. "Haha, are you scared? Don't worry, I'm here for you. You're my Soso, no one will dare touch you."
Looking at Xia Ya laughing so heartlessly, the poor worm was initially annoyed, but soon Xia Ya's laughter infected her, and she couldn't help but feel a warmth in her heart, letting Xia Ya's big hands mess up her hair.
This tortoise... should probably be able to protect me...

Compared with the tension of the poor worm, those earth spirits saw this tribe that had been slaughtered empty in front of them, and there was not a hint of horror or pity.
On the contrary, these guys were even grinning from ear to ear as they gazed at the ruins ahead, letting out a burst of hearty laughter.
Dwarves... really are a bunch of guys born to love infighting.
"Aren't they worried at all?" Poor insect was somewhat puzzled.
"They've always been like that. Goblins love to see their own kind get into trouble, even if it's from the same tribe, let alone being slaughtered by another tribe." Xia Ya said after finishing speaking, walked over and kicked down a goblin warrior who was laughing the most happily, swung his axe and made a gesture.
The princess immediately walked over with her head held high and her belly puffed out, shouting a few times in a false bravado to drive away these earth spirit warriors and continue moving forward.
Under Xia Ya's command, they didn't go far but instead crossed the riverbed beside this earth spirit tribe and camped on the opposite bank.
Xia Ya still looked like a rough and boorish turtle, yelling at the goblin warriors and leaving all the work of moving and starting fires to those "Soso", but unfortunately, Xia Ya's subtle expressions revealed his unusualness - although he was still laughing and scolding, occasionally his eyes would flash with a beast-like sharpness. When night fell, Xia Ya sat by the river, looking at the desolate ruins of the tribe on the other side, narrowing his eyes, with a hint of sharp light flashing in his eye slits from time to time. Finally, he turned his head and looked at Poor Bug, speaking in a calm tone, but his words made Poor Bug's heart skip a beat!
"Hey......" Xia Ya looked at Ke Liang Chong's face: "Tonight, be vigilant when sleeping, we may need to get up and escape at any time."
“???”
The poor insect was startled and its hand trembled, dropping the water bag onto the ground.
Xia Ya smiled, but his eyes were very serious. He pointed to the opposite bank, his tone seemingly casual: "Those guys, they may not have gone too far. From the hoof prints, I can tell that after they slaughtered this tribe, they split up into several groups and scattered. I'm worried we'll run into those guys. Although I don't know who they are, from their style of doing things, it's clear that running into them won't be a pleasant thing."
"What's that? Are we staying here?" The poor worm's voice was trembling with fear: "Why are you camping so early today?"
"Because this should be the safest place." Xia Ya thought for a moment, his voice was very confident: "Those guys just slaughtered here, so it's unlikely they'll come back after leaving."
Xia Ya said, holding a fork with several pieces of wolf meat on the tip, came to Keliang Chong's side, roasted the fork over the fire for a while, and handed it to Keliang Chong: "Eat, no matter what, being able to eat a full meal is always a happy thing."
As he spoke, he pointed to another bonfire not far away, where Mr. Wang was scolding the earth-type warriors like a prison guard, Xia Ya didn't continue to abuse those earth-type captives and even shared a piece of wolf meat with them. However, such a large piece of wolf meat was divided among more than a dozen earth-types, and each earth-type could only take two bites at most.
"We probably shouldn't bring these prisoners with us." The poor worm thought for a moment: "If we go on our own, the target will be smaller and it won't be easy to run into others. Even if something happens, two people can hide more easily."
Xia Ya smiled, with a mocking gaze at the poor worm, and sighed: "No matter who you are, such a guy running to Ye Huo Yuan and not dying is really blessed by the gods. Let me tell you, I can be sure that those guys are all professional butchers and killing experts. Although I don't know what they are, maybe it's a top-notch thief group, or a group of rebellious deserters, or perhaps a group of mercenaries who suddenly went crazy, but in any case, those guys are old birds! If we really encounter them, don't expect us to escape their eyes, an old hand can smell the scent carried by the wind even with his nose. So, I need to bring these earth spirit captives even more."
"Why?"
"Two reasons." Xia Ya chuckled and picked up a piece of roasted wolf meat, taking a bite as he mumbled, "Firstly, if we encounter those butchers, these goblins can attract their attention, and we might have the chance to escape. Secondly...if we're lucky enough not to encounter those butchers, then when we find that dragon, these goblins can serve as a large batch of bait - which would be beneficial for you."
The poor worm took a glance at the "soso" beside her, and she let out a sigh in her heart, once again confirming one thing: this guy might be a bumpkin, but he was absolutely not a foolish simpleton.
