County Town Chapter 8: The Fake Immortal's Monster
Another Saturday.
Yi Tianxing yawned, walked out of his small black room, and pretended to practice a set of punches on the small stone platform next to his pile of junk. For his abnormal physique, these punching techniques were naturally not very helpful. However, Yi Tianxing was still a monstrous genius in disguise, although he thought he just had an incredible memory and not necessarily high intelligence. He always knew how to hide his true abilities, and if he had to reveal them one day, it would be better than being caught and taken to a research center for abnormal humans.
He thought of this week, following Zou Lelie every day to write on the blackboard, and couldn't help but gently rub his index finger and thumb together, as if the tips of his fingers still had those smooth chalk marks, which was a happy feeling for him.
Saturday was always his favorite day. Not for anything else, but every weekend when it's time for the big cleanup, he can openly follow Zou Leran to the large blackboard downstairs to practice writing with chalk.
That blackboard is really big, if you want to write everything on it, it's even more tiring than pulling out scrap steel from the garbage mountain every night.
But there's no way around it, after all Lel is the student council's publicity committee member.
He likes this kind of hard work.
………………………………
The campus was a bit hot in the afternoon, and although the lush green trees were deep in color, they couldn't hide the heat of the red sun in the sky. There were some scattered lawns in between, but at this time, all the students had already finished their cleaning and gone home, so there wasn't a single person on the lawn. After passing by the playground for about ten steps, there was a platform made of broken stones, with an extremely large blackboard on top. The blackboard had a rain awning, which blocked out the scorching sunlight at this time, making it look even more somber and cool compared to the surrounding scenery. If it were clean and dust-free, it would definitely resemble a piece of dark, cold jade... Unfortunately, at this moment, it was covered with red and white chalk marks.
Yitian Xing and Zou Leilei were learning to fight with Buddha using their palms to support the awning, stupidly raising their heads to gaze at the large blackboard in front of them. Suddenly, they exchanged a glance and burst out laughing foolishly again.
This is the result of their hard work for a week, although what they wrote was nothing more than some foreign language learning, extracurricular activities, motivational essays, and other clichés. However, the dense blackboard chalk characters really gave these two young men and women a sense of accomplishment.
"Look, it's still my writing of Maugham's 'The Voice of the River' that is the best." He hummed softly: "Their singing voice is a painful moan, a desperate sigh, a mournful cry; it's not even human. It's the scream of an infinitely sorrowful soul, with just a hint of melody and harmony, and that final note is the last sob of humanity. Life is too hard, life is too cruel, and singing is the last protest of despair. That's what 'The Voice of the River' is."
Zou Leran quietly listened to him recite the passage with emotion, suddenly discovering that he had his eyes closed, and couldn't help but smile: "Your memory is also too terrifying." Yi Tianxing smiled.
Zou Leran suddenly frowned and said, "Another article about lighting by Maomao is more positive, won't this one be too dull? On Monday, when Teacher Hu comes to inspect, will she have any opinions?"
Yitian shrugged and said, "Life is originally tough, that's a fact. As for being dull? The boatman's song is actually perhaps just finding some fun in the terrible years of struggling to make ends meet. But people who have reached that point still won't forget to let themselves be happy, isn't that already optimistic enough?"
Zou Leran smiled and said: "I can't win an argument with you." After a moment of silence, she looked at him with concern and said: "You've had a tough time these years, haven't you?"
Yi Tianxiao curled up the corner of his mouth and smiled, revealing a row of white teeth: "Where is it? Living alone is the most relaxing thing, and there's no parents nagging in your ear every day."
Watching him laugh, Zou Lerer let out a soft sigh and didn't say much more, smiling: "Alright, let's go."
Two people put away the chalk and ruler in the first floor's team office, then pushed their bikes over to the shed. From the teaching building to the school gate was a long straight road, Yi Tianhang and she walked while chatting. Zou Leilei suddenly said: "Almost forgot, last weekend we agreed, today I'll treat you to crispy skin." After finishing, she smiled sweetly at him.
Yi Tianxing's heart skipped a beat, and he smiled blissfully: "That would be perfect." Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he felt that there was a figure flashing at the school gate in the distance.
If it were someone else, they would definitely not be able to see clearly, but Yi Tian Xing was the kind of person who could squint in the dark and rely on moonlight to pinch mosquitoes to death. With a slight attention, he saw that it was Hu Yun from his class. He furrowed his brow, thinking that at this time there were no students left in school, so who was Hu Yun waiting for? Previously, he had heard classmates say that Hu Yun was quite familiar with the hoodlums outside... Thinking of this, Yi Tian Xing's heart suddenly felt stuffy and uncomfortable, as if sensing that something unpleasant was waiting for him.
He glanced at Zou Leran, who was chatting and laughing beside him, suddenly stopped in his tracks, and said warmly: "Leran, you go ahead first, I suddenly thought of something that needs to be done at school."
Zou Leran looked around in some surprise and said: "There's no one else at school, what's up?"
Yitian Xing was worried, and it couldn't be said that it was because of his inexplicable premonition... After thinking for a moment, he smiled and said: "The new young teacher in the League Committee asked me to clean up the League Committee today."
Zou Leran sighed and said: "It can't be, right? We're not really laborers." Her expression of grievance was adorable.
Yi Tian Xing smiled and said: "So let me, this bitter and tired person, help Miss share her worries."
Zou Leran smiled and said: "Hmph, nothing good to say? Let's go together quickly." As she spoke, she turned the car towards the teaching building.
"Listen to me, okay?" Yi Tianxing said with a slightly panicked tone.
He was momentarily flustered and said something awkward, but it made the usually cheerful and easygoing Zou girl blush bright red. The two of them stood there on that straight road for half a day before Zou Lelie finally spoke up in a mosquito-like voice: "Then I'll go first... but you always leave early from evening study sessions, and every week at this time we can walk together..." Her voice grew smaller and smaller.
Yitian Xing's heart bloomed into 128 petals upon hearing this, but his face began to stupidly smile like an idiot, and he dazedly said: "Alright, let's go first... or else, you wait for me at the Telecom Tower, I'll be late by at most ten minutes."
Zou Leran heard him say "good boy" again, and she was so embarrassed that she couldn't help but let out a light "ptui", then jumped on her bicycle and rode away from the school like she was escaping.
Yi Tianxing watched the adorable sky blue 24-speed bicycle disappear at the school gate with a silly smile, still in a daze. The love of youth can easily change a young person's temperament, and now Yi Tianxing only thought about rushing to the telecommunications building as soon as possible, who cares who is waiting outside, who cares if he has to fight? In the Buddhist scriptures he read a few days ago, Linji Yixuan said: "At this moment, meet Buddha kill Buddha, meet ancestor kill ancestor, meet Arhat kill Arhat, inside and out, meet and kill!"
A gust of hot wind blew by, and the young man walked towards the school gate with his head held high, humming the most popular song "Wake Up" by Mei Liang at that time. Unfortunately, those hooligans waiting outside the campus to fight couldn't hear the lyrics.
"Wake up, wake up soon, don't you know you're killing your life..."
