I
I was sitting on the floor, bleeding to death. I used all my strength to pull myself up and lean my back against the cold, hard cobalt of the fireplace. I lay there, looking around me as coughs of blood poured from my mouth. I sighed, and I heard footsteps. As I started to close my eyes, all I could hear was: “Emily, Emily, Emily, Emily, Emily.” I wished they would stop—my head was hurting so much. I shouted:
Emily: Shut up!!
The moment I opened my eyes, nothing was familiar. I got out of the bed and started looking around, soon discovering from a poster that I was in Thailand. How I read that, I have no idea. At that moment, I heard a knock on the door: Knock, knock.
Man: Miss, are you okay? I heard a scream. Is everything all right?
I thought to myself, Is he talking to me? I ran back to the bed.
Emily: You can come in, please. I have a few questions to ask you.

Man: Yes, miss.
The man walked in. He was wearing a butler outfit with a black chain around his neck. He came in with a trolley. On the top shelf was food, and on the bottom, some medicine. As soon as I saw that, I looked around and noticed that the stab wound I had before I passed out had left a scar. That led me to believe that I was still in the present, just in a different country. I sighed.
Man: Are you okay, miss? If so, can you please sit at the end of the bed so I can treat your wound?
Emily: Ah, yes… What is your name?
Man: Oh, sorry. I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Thomas. I am your assigned assistant by the government. As I can see you’ve just woken up, I’ll fill you in on what’s happening after breakfast.
I nodded. Once Thomas finished treating my wound, he handed me a tray with food. As I began eating, he stood by the door, near the wardrobe.
Emily: Thomas, can I wear something warmer and more comfortable? Does the closet have clothes like that?
Thomas: Miss, you can call me Tom, and yes, I’ll take out a few choices for you to pick from.
He bowed to me and opened the closet, starting to take out clothes. I ignored that and enjoyed my breakfast, which consisted of pancakes with maple syrup, berries, and sparkling lemonade. Then, as soon as I got up, I felt a sudden headache. It was a headache so strong it made everything blurry, caused me to lose my balance, and then… I felt the ground coming closer and closer to me.
