Chapter Twenty-One: The Stone Coffin
What lay before Lin Feng's eyes was a small flat area, behind which was a small pond that blocked the path behind.
Old Karl was standing with his back to himself, muttering to himself.
The pool of water on the mound was not enough to surprise Lin Feng, he didn't even have time to think about why there would be a pool here, what surprised him most was what Old Karl was staring at!
Through the gap in Old Karl's (ahem, no other meaning) magical robe that didn't touch the ground, Lin Feng saw a rectangular mound of earth not far away from him. On top of the mound were scattered some weeds. Seeing this shape, Lin Feng immediately thought of two words - coffin!
Is this really going to be a coffin?
At such a close distance, Lin Feng could already hear the voice coming out of Old Karl's mouth. What made Lin Feng curious was that Old Karl wasn't chanting magic spells, but rather a strange-sounding phrase that sounded obscure and difficult to understand, yet gave off an air of solemnity and majesty.
Only to see, as old Karl read more and more urgently, a wandering air mass formed in front of him. This air mass seemed to have no color at all, but with its movement, the surroundings within sight became somewhat illusory.
As the air masses in front of him grew more and more numerous, Old Karl pointed at that rectangular thing from afar, and these air masses surged forward one after another, surrounding that rectangle inside.
But Old Karl did not stop chanting, and his mouth chanted faster and faster. Lin Feng saw a stream of air masses constantly surging towards the rectangular shape.
But just at this time...
Hūn
A loud explosion sounded, and Lin Feng saw the long rectangle wrapped in an air mass suddenly shook violently. The mud on top immediately cracked open with several fissures, but at the same time, the entire earth trembled again for an instant!
It was just that the shockwave was wrapped in an air mass, and the shock was much smaller than the previous two times. However, the surrounding air mass also dissipated a bit with this vibration.
Although the shock was much smaller, Lin Feng still couldn't help but feel a jolt in his heart at such close range. Fortunately, having gone through two previous "earthquakes", he had already made the best preparations. In that instant of earthquake, both his hands dug deep into the soil slope, only then did he manage to not fall down.
But old Karl was a stumble, somewhat unsteady on his feet, yet he seemed extremely experienced and in the instant of the earthquake bent his knees slightly, which kept him from falling to the ground.
Old Karl's mouth was also murmuring, the speed of recitation getting faster and faster. Through that gap, Lin Feng had already seen a few drops of water falling in front of Old Karl.
But in the next moment, he realized that it wasn't a drop of water, but rather sweat dripping down from Old Karl's face!!
Lin Feng couldn't help but wonder: What kind of spell is this? Just reciting it for a short while, even Old Man Karl, a great magician, was sweating profusely.
And what is that rectangular thing anyway? What's inside it? Why does it keep emitting such intense vibrations from time to time?
In an instant, countless doubts filled Lin Feng's heart, and at this moment, Old Karl finally stopped his recitation.
Linfeng saw Old Karl walk a few steps closer to the rectangle, reaching the edge of the aura surrounding it. He then placed his hands flat above the rectangle and continued to chant some obscure words. Suddenly, his hands emitted a faint red mist that seemed to possess gravity, slowly sinking down towards the rectangle below.
These pale red vapors, as soon as they came into contact with those transparent colored air masses, immediately merged into the air masses. As the old Karl's hands continued to emit this red vapor, the originally transparent air masses gradually turned into a faint red color. When all the air masses became pale red, the entire rectangle suddenly shook violently, as if it was very repelled by this pale red air mass!
But old Karl was not flustered and slowly withdrew his own hands.
But his action of recalling it made Lin Feng see a feeling of fatigue, and before Lin Feng could consider anything, old Karl's mouth once again transmitted obscure and difficult-to-understand words.
This time, Lin Feng still didn't understand what Old Karl was saying, but hearing this sentence made him feel a sense of calmness and serenity. These sounds seemed to be indiscriminately attacking in all directions from Old Karl as the center, piercing into Lin Feng's heart, making him suddenly feel a sense of peace.
The red air mass on the rectangle, however, gradually merged into the rectangle with this sound, slowly disappearing from the surface of the rectangle. As the pale red air mass was absorbed into the interior of the rectangle, the rectangle finally stopped shaking and returned to its original calm state.
After doing all this, Old Karl seemed extremely tired. He raised his head, took a deep breath, and slowly exhaled before pulling out a handkerchief from his pocket to simply wipe the sweat off his face. Then he quietly gazed at the rectangular shape in silence, seemingly lost in thought as if recalling something.
Lin Feng hid in this angle and couldn't see Old Karl's expression at all. If he had seen the look in Old Karl's eyes, he would have been shocked!
At this moment, the calmness and composure that Karl usually had in his eyes had disappeared, replaced by a faint sadness, with occasional flashes of light, revealing a complex emotion towards the rectangular object in front of him.
After a while, Old Karl finally stretched out one hand towards the rectangular shape. From this angle, Lin Feng could see that Old Karl's aged arm was trembling uncontrollably for some reason. The next moment, Old Karl's trembling arm had landed on the rectangular shape, and he gently stroked its surface with a warm and careful touch, as if afraid of disturbing the slightest bit of yellow soil on it.
At last, Old Karl withdrew his arm and took two steps back, letting out a faint sigh.
*sigh*...
This sigh was dragged out for a very long time, giving Lin Feng a feeling of extreme helplessness and deep regret.
After sighing, Old Karl reluctantly turned his body back, this action seemed to be leaving.
Lin Feng's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly lowered his head. Just as he was about to slide down the slope, he suddenly heard an earth-shattering voice beside his ear!!
Boom!
It was as if something had exploded, making Lin Feng feel dizzy and his ears ringing.
The next moment, he had already identified that the explosion sound was coming from the flat ground above!!!!
Lin Feng's heart suddenly tightened, a bad feeling immediately rose to his mind, he didn't have time to think much, without regard for Old Karl discovering himself, he hastily looked up.
But this second glance made him take a cold breath!
All that was left of the original rectangle was now in front of him, with a significant amount of mud shaken off its surface. What lay before him was an ancient-looking stone coffin, adorned with intricate carvings on its surface, but that wasn't the point!
The main thing, however, was that the lid of the stone coffin had been blown off by the explosion and was now lying on one side, half submerged in the pond. On the coffin, which had lost its lid, a figure slowly sat up.
At this time, Old Karl stood solemnly in front of the stone coffin, with only two of the three defensive magic shields remaining on his body. Apparently, the first layer of magic had been broken by the impact of the explosion just now. At this moment, his wand had already appeared in his hand and was aimed at the figure on the stone coffin. The fiery red gemstone at the tip of the wand had also lit up with a dazzling light!
