  The word hung in the air for less than a second before a knock sounded at our bedroom door and Emily pulled away from me. My eyebrows rose on my face in surprise before settling into a knowing smirk. It took only a couple of seconds of consideration for me to know exactly who was at our door.

  The door unlocked automatically as I gave my verbal consent for someone to enter, and Jade pushed it open and walked in with a smirk.

  The stone floor stopped halfway across the wide room that was probably 200 feet in length and 150 feet wide. The ground looked like it was covered in some sort of petrified roots that all led back to what could only be described as a giant stone heart. It was about 20 feet tall and looked like it was made out of the same petrified wood as the roots. As we drew closer to it, my mind tched onto a detail from Gehenna’s story about her past. I knew exactly where we were and what this object was. She stopped next to a patch of stony ground that was scorched and bckened. I saw Gehenna’s eyes drift over the spot and then gaze shifted up to meet mine. She nodded silently once and gave me a small smile before turning and continuing to lead me closer to the center of the room.
