On our way out, Zakk immediately bombards me with questions.

  Zakk, “Who are you? What is this power? Do you feel any differences? Explain to me in detail how everything happened. This power is quite fascinating, not only do you have pure strength but coating your fists in your power means you also have the potential in using spells.”

  I stared at him blankly, my mind died after the first two questions. As we continued walking, even Alex’s team continued to ask me questions, it’s as if they’re not aware of this, although they watched it go down when we fought the ogres.

  Alex, “Hey Josie, let’s stop and get something to eat. I’m sure you’re exhausted and hungry as everyone else here is.”

  I nod my head and before we head off Zakk says, “My tavern is the closest to the entrance in town, let’s stop there. Treat is on me.”

  We head to his Tavern, the name being “Zakkeries”, we sit down and people stare at us confused as Alex places the Harbinger body next to her. A random guy walks up to us and says, “Isn’t that a harbinger from the myths? Did you guys mold one or something?”

  Zakk laughs and says, “No. This guy right here, pointing at Josie, just defeated one in battle, all alone.”

  Everyone gasps and says, “That’s impossible, people ran away and lived to tell these stories but no one’s ever defeated it, who are you?”

  I turn around irritated but Alex steps in for me, “He’s just trying to eat and get some rest, leave him be yeah?”

  They all murmur and whisper as they sit back down, I wouldn’t say we particularly had fun while enjoying our meal. We pack up, say our thanks and head out to Alex’s house. I bathe there and sleep on the couch since I am too exhausted to make my way back home. But nightmares made the night feel long. I dream of something bad, I am not sure what it is but I’m bleeding badly and suddenly the night ends after a pair of eyes looked at me, it’s pupils were crosses. I open my eyes after the dream ends like that to see Alex beside me, sitting, watching TV. To our surprise they’re covering Harbinger.

  Josie, “Didn’t take long for news to travel and make it’s way out there huh?”

  Alex, “Seems not, but it just seems they’re just talki-”

  News Anchor, “The people involved in bringing down this Harbinger is Josie and his party. Josie apparently took down the Harbinger himself as said by Zakk in his Tavern named “Zakkeries” This seems true as here you see a member of Josie’s party named Alex placing down Harbingers body.”

  Josie, “Gosh… things are going to get wild from here on.”

  Alex, “Yeah…”

  We turn off the news and get ready, today we plan on taking it chill. We had a hard fought battle, we just needed some time to breathe but that wasn’t happening. Once we stepped into town, people surrounded us and kept asking questions. We had to push and shove our way through but Alex and I noticed 3 of the top 10 ascended in the town. They stared at us viciously and we walked away as quickly as we could.

  Alex, “That was interesting.”

  Josie, “Don’t pay mind to it, it’s fine.”

  We continued on our day, relaxing until noon came around. We went to train.Trying to get stronger and staying in shape was one of the very reasons Alex is where she’s at now, so I don’t mind doing this. I need to figure out what the extent of my power is. We fight, I tell her not to hold back. She’s mixing attack spells and hand to hand combat to keep me on my toes. She wins scrim 1, scrim 2, then I finally win scrim 3. “

  Alex, “You adapt quickly huh. panting”

  Josie, “I need to if I need to get stronger, it seems to be helping me a lot. I appreciate this Alex. I’m going to wash my face then I will walk home with you.”

  I walk towards the restroom and Alex continues training while I do that.

  After washing my face, I return to find Alex in thought, staring at the window. I approach her and ask, “Everything okay?” and hand her a towl.

  Alex accepting the towel, wiping her face then saying, “Josie, your powers are now being spoken about to everyone. That’s dangerous, people may see that as a threat to their position in power and even thinking about how you’ve gained your power, what if an other worldly power comes and tries to destroy everything just to kill you?”

  I feel uneasy, but I look at her letting her continue.

  “Powerful Ascended saw us today, I’m sure you seen it too. The 10th, 9th and 8th strongest in this town. These top 10 may be even the strongest in the country, but we’re unsure since no one fights each other. But the way they looked at us, it made me feel frightened.”

  Her words sink in, I feel the gravity of the situation. I’ve always wanted to have powers and now that I have them it’s an issue. But I understand myself, they’re not normal or ordinary. What I am is special and special is never good when it comes to others who believe they should be special.

  “Alex, will they come for me?” I ask Alex.

  “It’s possible, never impossible,” Alex replies. “But we cannot let that happen. We’ll continue getting stronger like today.”

  Everything sends a chill down my spine, but cannot let this tear me down. I need to be ready and accepting of anything that comes at me. Any challenge.

  We leave the training facility and head home, I offer her to stay the night at my place and she agrees. Once we get ready for bed, she sleeps on my bed and i take my couch just so she can be comfortable. Unable to fall asleep, I stare at the ceiling reminiscing about the things that took place. A few hours pass and Alex walks into the room, shaking.

  “Josie, I just got a call. We need to talk.” says Alex.

  She sits down next to me and explains, “The three ascended we saw today.. We’re being forced to go on a ruin run with them tomorrow night.”
