Chapter 8: The City of Chaos
It's been two days since I've been wandering, and food isn't a concern. Various wild beasts and fruits are all edible, even if they're poisonous, it doesn't matter with my current physique, which can be said to be completely immune to poison. However, for some reason, my body's sensitivity seems to have increased greatly, and after just two days without bathing, I feel uncomfortable.
Lucky for him, in these two days, he encountered a fire-type tiger. After killing it, he obtained a stone that was even better than the Wind Wolf Magic Core from before. After condensing it, he made a ring with power far surpassing the previous one.
"Ah, finally some signs of civilization." Looking at the city wall not far away, he let out a sigh of relief. The wilderness life for several days was absolutely not his cup of tea. As he moved forward, suddenly, a stone tablet caught his attention.
Crouching down gently, wiping away the dust on top, Ka Luo whispered, "Warning to all who walk this road, ahead lies the legendary city of chaos, Garrotte City. In that place, there is no rule but fear. If you have strayed onto this path by mistake, please leave immediately. If you are determined to go there, think thrice. If your sin is not worthy of death, I advise you to turn back. There, there is no right, no power of money, only strength and ability. If you lack these two things, what awaits you will be the ultimate hell."
"Hell, huh... I've already seen it once before. If it's really like what they say, then that would be quite interesting, wouldn't it." Garo raised a faint, yet captivating smile that could enthrall anyone.
He took out another piece of lining cloth and covered his face again, heading towards his destination, the city of Galatea.
After walking for almost half a day, I finally arrived at the gate of this chaotic capital. The city is much more magnificent than I imagined, but strangely, the sounds emanating from inside are much smaller.
There were several soldiers at the entrance, who couldn't help but stare at Gallo as he walked in. This was a city of fear and confusion, where everyone knew that every person could be a criminal with multiple lives on their hands. These people, who couldn't survive in other countries, would make this place their last resort for survival. So, over the past century, how many criminals had survived in this city, which others called the City of Fear? No one knew, but everyone knew it was a terrifying place.
So for decades, almost everyone who came here was a criminal. Women were scarce to begin with, and young ones like Galo were extremely rare.
Although that was the case, several city guards stepped forward and said "Welcome to this chaotic city, miss." A leading captain came forward and said "Although I don't know why you've come here, according to regulations, please accept this item." The captain handed over a piece of paper and a thin card with a faint blue color. "The usage methods are all recorded on the paper, please keep it well, also, welcome to Galwirth." After finishing speaking, he waved his hand and had the people behind him clear the way.
Karo took it over, there was a number on the card, 1578412, and also a small recess, a very simple thing, can't see what use it has.
"Welcome to Galwirth. Here, you can feel a different world. I am the city lord, Mahaya."
Garo furrowed his brow, "What? There's actually a city lord here?"
"I may be the lord of this city, but I won't take responsibility for anything. What I do is just maintain the environment of this city, excluding public safety. Since you're here, you should be prepared to die at any time. Also, the evaluation department in this city is directly under my jurisdiction. Here, you can assess some skills, which will still be beneficial for your survival in this city. Cards are the only items that represent money here, and they contain usage points within the city. Compared to the outside world's currency, cards have no password; anyone who takes your card will make you lose all your usage points. Each card can be exchanged for 20 usage points at my lord's mansion. If you want to leave, you must return your card and surrender 5,000 usage points. Without a card, you'll spend the rest of your life here."
Garro smiled lightly, and the paper in his hand turned to ashes. From this, Garro had already understood that one of the ways to survive in this city was that cards must not be lost.
He put away his card and walked slowly into this chaotic city, where he would take the first step of his new life.
He hadn't walked far from the city gate when he suddenly stopped in his tracks, for he found himself surrounded. Many people had emerged from all corners and quietly encircled him.
"Huh, it's actually a woman?" someone exclaimed in an incredulous voice. In this city, even if women did come, they were always with others, and it had probably been one or two years since the last time a woman came.
Jia Luo suddenly heard some sounds, the sound of swallowing saliva, it was really disgusting. The people surrounding him now were mostly those who lived at the bottom of society here, and he didn't know how long they hadn't touched a woman.
"Hmm." Galo slowly raised his right hand, and a bright flame burst forth from it.
"Magician!" Everyone gasped in unison, and that flame seemed like a fatal fire, reflecting on their hearts. To know that the noble status of a magician was absolutely not something they could touch.
They began to slowly back away with their feet, if they didn't want to die, this was the best way.
Ka Luo retracted the flames, which was also a harvest. When he had time to study the core of Huo Hu, he remembered Feng Lang's ability to absorb wind elements from the air and create wind cannons. So, he began to try directly using his spiritual power to control the free elements in the air, although this was something he had never thought of before, because on Earth there weren't that many elements for him to use.
Spiritual power began to control elements, and as he thought, the elements could be concentrated, but strangely, there was no way to condense into a real material force form.
"How strange, how is it possible?" Galo was puzzled for a long time, and slowly he touched the Huǒ Hǔ Shǒu ring on his hand, suddenly he remembered a question that he had overlooked.
"I borrow objects to exert elemental power because there are substances in the objects that can fuse with elements. I just gather the elements without fusing them, but how do people here manage to do so?" Galo was troubled by this question, although he had confirmed that he could gather elements, but how did they actually work?
He was unaware that in this world, magicians were scarce for two reasons: on the one hand, many people were born without the ability to grasp spiritual power, and on the other hand, using magic, as Gallo had considered, required the fusion of elements to become matter. On this planet, humans used so-called spells and beliefs to fuse elemental powers, and he, who did not have spells or beliefs, was absolutely unable to use such magic.
However, this problem was controlled by him with other methods, if it is said that materials are needed, what material can compare to his body?
Yarrow blue represents water, pigeon blood red represents fire, black tourmaline represents darkness, sheep fat white jade represents light, carbon element mineral represents the earth, pearl represents wind, and his body is the finest alchemy material.
When he wants to do it, Ka Luo absorbs the elements and transfers the micro-thermal energy representing fire from his body. When the energy runs to his hands, the power of the element bursts out in a geometric expansion, and when it appears again, it condenses into flames.
With this trick, he easily walked through the city. Although the city was chaotic, ordinary businesses were still protected to some extent, so there were countless shops on both sides of the road.
He walked into a leather goods store, and the owner came up to greet him. He was taken aback by Gallo, but Gallo seemed to be used to it - there were apparently very few women in this city. He tossed a package off his back onto the counter, gesturing to the owner.
The shopkeeper stepped forward, opened the package, and a very beautiful yellow striped fur appeared. He stroked it several times, and the shopkeeper exclaimed, "What a warm feeling! This is the fur of a fifth-grade fire tiger!" The shopkeeper's face changed, and he turned the fur over and over again, "Hmm, no damage, no scars, too perfect." The shopkeeper raised his head in shock, although he had seen many high-quality furs, but such an intact one was rarely seen.
"Are you hungry, miss? Are you going to sell?" Galo nodded slightly, and the store owner thought for a moment "Then, 15 points can be used, okay?"
Although it's unclear how much credit points are worth here, I remember writing on paper that one card is worth 20 points, anyway, having some is better than nothing.
She nodded in agreement, and the shopkeeper took out a card. "Well, miss, please take out your card." The law of Galar is to respect the strong, no matter who got this fur, offending a potential strong person is absolutely not a good idea.
Karo took out the card and watched as the store manager operated, only to see the store manager stretch out his finger, swipe it on the card, stick two cards together, say a sentence after 15 seconds, and then return the card to Karo.
Looking at the card in doubt, Gallo also stretched out his hand and swiped it, only to see a number 15 appear on the card.
"It's so simple to operate, no wonder someone would snatch it away." Gallo nodded and left the leather goods store, while the shopkeeper was still stroking the fur of Huo Hu, with a look of intoxication on his face.
Jia Luo walked out of the store with a casual glance at someone beside him, then left without any hesitation.
The person who was swept away couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat. He gasped for breath several times and quickly left.
Ka Luo was clear that the person had been following him since he used his fire element power, although he didn't care, being followed wasn't something he liked, so he slightly used some spiritual power to shock the person, guessing that the opponent would have a hard time for the next few days.
"It's strange, I just arrived, how could someone be following me? Is it the power of this city, or who is it?" With a hint of doubt, Gallo walked into an inn.
After taking a look, it's okay, staying here for one night only costs 3 points, including three meals. That means he has gained five more days of time, but what he wants to do most now is to take a good bath.
Only two days had passed, and his body was already itching to death. For such delicate skin, it could be said that he had brought trouble upon himself. After buying a set of clothes, he asked the shopkeeper to send up some hot water. He closed the door, tapped a few times on the door and window, and prepared to take a bath.
Slowly shedding her clothes, a slender yet alluring jade-like body appeared in the air. Her absolutely beautiful face was so captivating that even Galen would be lost in an instant.
He shook his head, submerging his body in the water. The warmth made him exhale softly, and the tense nerves that had been strung tight finally began to relax. He started to enjoy all of this.
"Lord of the castle, I'm back." The follower who was startled by Gallo earlier was now kneeling in front of a man.
The man was wearing a loose and casual robe, lounging lazily in a comfortable large chair, with a bottle of red wine behind him, looking very uncomfortable.
A head of brown hair, paired with that lazy expression, an inexplicable sense of elegance, but afterwards, a glint of sharpness flickers in the depths of his eyes.
"Hmm, back so soon? What's up? Anything happen today?" He slightly raised his head and took a sip of wine.
"Yes, sir, it's like this, today a single woman came into town and received her card."
"Unmarried woman? That's a rare thing indeed, what about the one behind?" No big expression, still lying softly on the chair, it was clear that this kind of news wasn't enough to satisfy this noble.
"Yes, the woman took the card and was surrounded by refugees at the city gate, but then a flame burst out of her hand, scaring everyone away. And judging from my observation, she's not even 20 years old yet." The follower reported to the man on his knees.
"Under 20? A Flame user?" The man seemed interested, sitting up straight. "A young magician under 20, how rare. People with such talents are usually not abandoned by the country unless they've committed a serious crime like harming the royal family. If you're not a criminal, what brings you to this chaotic city?"
"Mahaya City Lord, could she be a spy sent by another country to deal with us?"
The man stood up, "Don't underestimate me, and don't underestimate the city of Gartel. If one person can turn my city upside down, then I'm not the lord of this city. Besides, no country would think of using such a foolish method to deal with us. You've worked hard, take a few days' rest, if there's a task, I'll instruct you again."
"Yes, I'll take my leave."
Watching the figure of his subordinate leaving, the lazy expression on the man's face disappeared. "What a strong spiritual power, after so long it still clings to her body... Young female magician, I can be certain that there is absolutely no such genius in this world... What is her purpose for coming here, I wonder..."
