Chapter One: The Tragic Beginning
This is the tropical rainforest of Guyana. It is the world's first river, a tributary of the Amazon River. This magnificent river runs through Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana and other vast kingdoms, with nearly 5,000 tributaries radiating from it, and has spread to the entire world from the tropical rainforest of Guyana. It has become the mother river of this world. Its water is abundant all year round, nourishing 90 million square kilometers of land, giving birth to the largest tropical rainforest in the world, and is considered one of the most mysterious "plant kingdoms" in the world.
The tropical rainforest of Gaya receives abundant sunlight throughout the year, as it is located near the equator. The region experiences only hot summers all year round. However, the large amount of water vapor that evaporates easily forms clouds and brings heavy rainfall, resulting in a climate where high temperatures and torrential rains alternate almost every day. The humid air and nutrient-rich soil are ideal for the growth of evergreen forests, which are dense with tall, green plants competing for space and sunlight. To survive, some plants have evolved to absorb nutrients from other trees or even become carnivorous, feeding on flesh and digesting bones. This has created a hidden crisis in this vast and fertile land. However, it is the poisonous insects that are most abundant and dangerous in Gaya's tropical rainforest that will be the starting point of our story.
The sky was low and overcast, with a leaden grey cloud layer that occasionally flashed with lightning, accompanied by the rumble of thunder, clearly brewing another heavy downpour.
On a nearly twenty-meter-tall evergreen arbor, dozens of banana-like wide and long leaves grow. These delicate-looking, weak-not-wind-resistant leaves are like strictly trained soldiers, no matter how fierce the wind is, they stick to their posts, shielding the wind and rain in the swaying storm, just to wrap around the few emerald green fruits that grow underneath, the size of a human head. Waiting for them to mature, bringing life extension to this big tree.
If we zoom in, we can see that on the surface of these fruit, which are about the size of a human head, there is a layer of moist membrane with countless small white dots densely arranged within it. The rhythm of life is pulsating under the approaching storm. It's like performing the birth melody that takes place every day in the tropical rainforest of Guyana. However, nobody noticed that among these little ones about to be born, there was one particularly special little guy.
Liu Ting woke up to find something was off. He was curled up in a small, enclosed space filled with strange equipment. Had he been kidnapped? Was it aliens or some twisted scientist conducting biological experiments? But he was a good young man who had never done anything wrong! This was unbearable! Fear and wild thoughts made Liu Ting, who had never experienced such a thing before, panic. He frantically waved his body around, silently praying to the gods for salvation. Suddenly, he felt the smooth wall of the space crack open a tiny gap under his "great power". He redoubled his efforts, using every last bit of strength. It could be said that even the energy from his milk-drinking days was being used up. However, his body seemed to have changed somehow...
"Who's there? I saw you, come out quickly..." Liu Ting shouted loudly, trying to lure out the hidden scientific monster, and also to boost his own courage. Unexpectedly, as soon as his voice came out of his throat, it turned into a sharp, piercing sound that he had never heard before. It was almost inaudible, but clearly conveyed the meaning Liu Ting wanted to express! At this moment, his legs suddenly burst forth with astonishing power, and actually tore the inner wall of the space apart from within, causing the view in front of him to brighten instantly. The dazzling light made Liu Ting shrink back into the space again.
"What's going on? What's going on? I just saw something, a huge insect leg, it must be a dream, yes, it must be a dream." Liu Ting nervously comforted himself, and after a long time, he reopened his eyes, using the light shining in from outside to carefully look at his own body. The next moment, he burst out into another fit of wailing and crying like a ghost or wolf.
"Heavens, what have I done wrong? Don't play with me like this!!!"
As if in response to Liu Ting's ghostly cry, a deafening thunderclap echoed from the low-hanging clouds, almost shattering his eardrums. Next, he felt a sudden darkness before his eyes, and then a torrential downpour came crashing down from the sky. The raindrops, magnified infinitely in his terrified eyes, seemed to be hurtling towards him like a crashing plane. With a loud crash, they shattered into countless tiny droplets on the green fruit covered with insect eggs.
"It's 2012. The end of the world..." Liu Ting hugged his head and let out a sharp, mournful cry that only he could understand, as the sudden heavy rain whipped him about like a leaf on a gust of wind. To those few fruits, it was just a bit of swaying in the gale, but to Liu Ting at this moment, it was like being strapped into a spinning roller coaster, a pirate ship. No different from sitting in a small, rickety boat, struggling against the fury of nature on a stormy sea. He realized that at this moment, he was nothing but tiny, insignificant... Ah, take another look, and still, he was just tiny..."
An hour later, the leaden sky came quickly and went away quickly. In a twinkling of an eye, it had all dispersed. Only a puddle of water was left, as well as the earth that had been washed clean.
Liu Ting stared blankly at the sky, looking around in bewilderment at the seemingly endless green ocean on all sides. He muttered to himself, but it was unclear what he was saying. What's even more astonishing is that he has maintained this petrified state for seven or eight minutes now. As a newborn life with no advantages, his behavior in this perilous rainforest is undoubtedly suicidal. It's also unknown how this premature baby, who was born with innate deficiencies, managed to survive the torrential downpour from earlier.
"Alright, I admit it. I wanted to cross over into the Three Kingdoms era, but instead you sent me to a strange and unfamiliar world. I can let that slide, but at least give me a commoner's identity, okay? Even if you didn't put me in a crowded city, putting me in this godforsaken rainforest is pushing it. Give me a native inhabitant or something, it's not like it's too hard. Alright, even if I couldn't be a human, making me a beastman, dwarf, or halfling would be fine too. But you didn't have to make me cross over as a mosquito, did you?!?! Goddammit, I really want to curse your ancestors!!!"
Liu Ting stood up, holding his own head, and scolded the sky for a long time, actually persistently scolding for over ten minutes, until a dizzying hunger came, he suddenly remembered that since birth, it seemed that he had never eaten anything. This made him stop, with a very strange posture, lying on the smooth egg membrane, ready to rest for a while.
"What should mosquitoes eat? I wipe, won't make me suck blood. It's disgusting to death. If there are still some sexually transmitted diseases, parasites, thinking about it makes people disgusted... I'm a mosquito, why bother with so much? Spit, spit, spit, no way, who wants to be a mosquito, I don't want to be this insect. Starve to death, maybe I can even travel back and become human..."
Liu Ting, who was lost in thought, suddenly heard a commotion around him. He turned his head and saw a scene that made his scalp crawl. Countless eggs were densely packed together and began to move as if they were alive. Innumerable larvae were faintly visible inside the milky-white eggs, constantly squirming about. From Liu Ting's perspective, these bizarre insects were terrifying and hideous, and their enormous size was enough to make someone vomit up last night's dinner in an instant. Of course, this assumes that there was actually food in his stomach to begin with.
He had forgotten that he was just like those mosquitoes, also born from the same insect eggs as Liu Ting, and looked at the scene in front of him with great disgust. He instinctively flapped his wings, which had grown on his back, wanting to fly away. However, he seemed to have forgotten that his stomach was empty, where did he get the energy to support himself flying? So before Old Liu could even take off, he crashed straight down, tumbling several times, causing a terrible car accident. Not only did he end up with a bruised and battered face, but his skin also came into intimate contact with those squirming insect eggs, making him feel extremely nauseous.
Before he could get up, the egg in front of him made a slight sound, and suddenly a fine crack appeared, just like when he was born. A insect resembling a mosquito emerged from the constantly expanding crack, its wet head coming into close contact with Liu Ting's. This made our Comrade Liu very angry, and he involuntarily let out a sharp cry, causing the mosquito that was still struggling to get out of the egg to pause, its body stiffening as it looked at Liu Ting, also letting out a sharp howl. Although he couldn't understand it, Liu Ting could clearly receive the message contained within, this was a signal from the other party that they felt threatened and were preparing to attack!
"No way. Big brother, I was just joking, just joking. Ah——" Watching the opponent crawl out of the cocoon, sticking out that thin and long, sharp mouthpart that had tormented countless people and animals, making him feel deeply afraid from the bottom of his heart. Liu Ting hastily used the lazy donkey's rolling technique, but before the opponent's attack even landed on himself, he was already screaming like a slaughtered pig.
