Chapter Fifty: The Flame Cave
Lei Ga stuffed the limited invincible medicine into his own package, without letting Xu Ling Tian discover the other things in the package.
"Remember, I only have enough materials to make one bottle of the Limited Invincibility Potion, so you must wait until we're crossing the lava to drink it. Don't waste it, or our mission will fail."
"I will complete the task."
Lei Ga replied in a calm tone: "I hope you keep your promise and have the Moon Demon Grass ready when I return."
"You can rest assured."
Xu Lingtian smiled slightly, "You've completed two nearly impossible tasks today, your body must be very tired. Why not go to Meena's house to rest first and deal with those flame lizards tomorrow morning?"
Lega was indeed tired and missed the hay mattress in Mina's attic. However, facing Mina's mother who had just lost her husband was not an easy task.
"No, I... have my own plans."
Xu Lingtian blinked his eyes, "Can't help but say, you're really a person with your own opinions..."
He seemed to want to say "independent-minded child", but changed his mind in the end. He stretched out his thin and bony right hand, "May our last collaboration be successful."
Lei Ga didn't go to shake Xu Ling Tian's hand, but only responded with a faint smile, without saying anything, and turned around to walk out of the house.
Xu Lingtian's smile on his face gradually disappeared after Leiga went out, and his complexion turned back to a dull grayish white.
"Wait again...Yoon Lisa."
"He muttered: 'Soon we can be together forever...'"
After leaving the alchemist's residence, Leiga took a deep breath and quickly ran east along the road.
He must race against time, take advantage of Xu Lingtian's paralysis and carelessness, and do the opposite of what he thinks will be delayed like the previous two tasks. He quickly completes the task and unexpectedly returns to his residence to investigate his secrets.
In this way, even if he is discovered, he can use the things in the alchemy toolbox as a talisman to force Ling Tian to hand over the Moon Demon Grass and then destroy his evil plan.
Running with a massive black sword on his back wasn't an easy task. Every step he took, the heavy blade felt like it was chopping into his spine, causing unbearable pain. Several times he wanted to stop and catch his breath, drinking the potent recovery potion in his pack, but ultimately he steeled himself, using his strong will to fight against his own body.
After running for half an hour, Mt. Mafuyu finally appeared in Laga's line of sight.
It can't be considered a view, the sky is already completely dark, and the dim starlight can't penetrate the thick volcanic ash fog. Leika first smelled the burnt smell, and then realized the outline of Dwarf Furnace Mountain.
The Dwarf Furnace Mountain was aptly named, for although it wasn't particularly tall, the heat emanating from it was oppressive even from a distance. Rega's thin-soled boots gradually softened under the high temperature, initially feeling warm and cozy like a hot spring, but within minutes, they stuck to his feet, forcing him to lift them as much as possible to minimize contact with the scorching ground.
It's quite ridiculous to walk like this, fortunately no one will see it.
After walking around the Dwarf Furnace Mountain for a while, Leiga discovered the cave of the Flame Lizard. The entrance was not large, embedded in a huge granite rock, and the hard granite had been baked to grayish white, with obvious signs of loosening at several points on top. The red light inside the cave illuminated the outside of the entrance, just like the mouth of an iron forge, and the temperature that came out was several times higher than the surface temperature.
Lei Ga's whole body was already soaked through, he couldn't be bothered to wipe away the sweat that flowed into his eyes, and directly charged into the Flame Lizard's cave.
The temperature inside the cave was even higher, and if he hadn't been drenched in sweat all over his body, Rega felt like he would have burst into flames. The heat wave sucked into his throat, as if swallowing a flame, which flowed into his lungs, making his rapid breathing futile.
What made him fortunate and yet confused at the same time was that the black giant sword behind him did not change with the temperature of the surrounding environment.
Such an ability, I'm afraid even the Azure Swallow Sword doesn't possess. The temperature released by the Azure Swallow Sword when fighting against demons still lingers vividly in Rega's memory, it was so hot that even Rega couldn't hold onto it, and the high heat left an indelible mark on his right palm. However, the Azure Swallow Sword is after all a legendary weapon, but what about this black giant sword?
No light, no sharpness, no blade, clumsy as if carrying a mountain on his back.
A ordinary iron sword that was clearly only used for bitter practice, why wasn't it affected in this high-temperature environment?
Lei Ga suddenly remembered that when he was fighting against Hong Luo Lan, the Cyan Crane Sword infused with 10th stage Dou Qi could only leave shallow scars on this black giant sword. But when he picked up the black giant sword again, those scars were gone - at that time, he didn't think much of it, but now thinking back, this giant sword was absolutely not as simple as it looked!
A low roar echoed from within the cave, interrupting Rega's thoughts. He decided to put the matter of the giant sword aside for now and wait until he saw Shep before voicing his doubts.
He walked along the cave and saw a two-meter-long red lizard lying on the ground, closing its eyes to enjoy the high temperature, its tail swaying gently back and forth, scales shining brightly, and every time it breathed, two green flames were sprayed from its twisted snake-like nostrils.
Lei Ga couldn't help but chuckle to himself. If he were to put him in this high-temperature environment to survive, sooner or later he would be spitting fire like a flame lizard.
He didn't stir up the flame lizard, but instead crept forward with his hands and feet against the scorching wall.
His palms, calves and arms all blistered with high water bubbles, but Leiga clenched his teeth and tried not to make a sound.
Dealing with a second-rate beast isn't difficult, the problem is it's too much of a waste of time, and right now, that's what Reiga needs most.
The lizard merely shook its head and continued sleeping soundly.
After bypassing the flame lizard, Leiga let out a slight sigh of relief, and before wiping away the sweat beads on his eyelashes, his heart quickly picked up again.
In front of him, twenty or so flame lizards lay prostrate, each one bigger than the one at the door!
If there were still the Azure Sword, these second-rate barbaric beasts would not be a problem even if there were ten more of them. But now it's extremely troublesome. Wanting to sneak past quietly is already an impossible task, some flame lizards are sleeping, while others are pressing down on each other, lovingly entwined in the middle of the passageway...
The most secure way is to lure them out one by one and kill them, but it's also the most time-consuming method. Not to mention whether the stamina can hold up in a protracted battle, just this scorching temperature alone would be unbearable for more than ten minutes.
Besides this, there is another way.
As long as he recited the balanced doctrine, and flipped the silver coin Shep gave him with its reverse side up into the air, he would be able to get through the danger - if Shep wasn't teasing him.
Sherlock told him to use it when his life was in danger. He didn't know what would happen after using it, but apparently now wasn't the time yet.
The simplest errand? Alright... Let's get going then.
Lei Ga's mouth corners rose in a bitter smile. He opened the package, checked the high-potency recovery medicine and limited invincibility medicine, then took a deep breath, condensed his fourth-stage Dou Qi to defend himself, and shouted loudly as he charged towards the Flame Lizard.
The Flame Lizards were all startled, and when they saw clearly that the one rushing over was just an ordinary human, they raised their necks and roared, spewing out flames.
Lei Ga dodged and weaved in the flames, not entangling with any of the flame lizards, but desperately running towards the depths of the cave.
How could the disturbed flame lizards let off the uninvited guest easily? Even the loving flame lizards temporarily put their happiness aside, twisting their bodies to chase after Lei Ga.
The flames on Leiga's body caused more than a dozen burns, and the flame lizards along the way also pounced on him to tear at him. In just a few hundred meters, his fourth-stage Dou Qi was already unable to hold up.
His legs were burning with pain, and he could hardly feel the soles of his feet. Rega gritted his teeth, shook off the sweat that had slid into his eyes, and continued to run. He had already lured more than thirty furious flame lizards, and if he stopped now, he would undoubtedly die.
After another frantic dash, Leiga finally saw Xu Lingtian's alchemy toolbox.
The box emitted a faint blue glow, similar to the two magical candles on the platform of Xu Lingtian. The box was placed alone on a raised black obsidian stone, surrounded by a circle of surging magma. It would be more accurate to say that it was deliberately placed here by Xu Lingtian rather than being left behind in the Flame Lizard Cave.
It can't be wrong! The alchemy toolbox must have been the evil potion that Xulintian used to revive Yelisha three years ago! He was afraid of being searched, so he deliberately put it in this kind of place!
Thinking of this, Leiga quickened his pace and rushed towards the Lava River.
A flame lizard darted out from the dark corner, suddenly pouncing on Lega's side, its long mouth open, revealing two rows of inwardly curved sharp teeth.
Lei Ga didn't dodge, but instead jumped into the air and stepped on the nose of the flame lizard, using its power to fly towards the black obsidian in the center of the lava river.
The flame lizard suddenly lost its balance, and with a terrified roar, it plunged into the lava river. Before it could even make a sound, it was completely engulfed by the molten rock, turning into strings of fire-water bubbles.
The flame lizards that had been chasing after them stopped abruptly when they saw the magma, but the ones behind couldn't stop in time and ended up pushing their companions at the front into it. For a moment, the sound of splashing was incessant.
Lei Ga steadily landed on the black obsidian, slightly calming his mood, then picked up the alchemy tool box with one hand and took out a limited amount of Invincible Potion with the other.
He has saved ten seconds of limited invincibility potion time by using a boost jump, but now there is nothing left to boost off of and he must rely on the limited invincibility potion to get across the lava river. Once he drinks the potion, aside from the ten seconds it takes to cross the lava river, he will only have twenty seconds of invincibility left, after which his full damage will be revealed again.
How far can he run in twenty seconds?
He took a deep breath, pushed away the stopper of the Limited Invincible Potion with his thumb, drank it in one gulp, and then threw away the bottle. He hugged the Alchemy Tool Box and jumped into the lava.
The flames on the other side of the shore let out bursts of mocking low roars, twisting their bodies in celebration.
A dazzling golden light slowly rose from the lava river...
