Chapter 38 Warning

  Chapter Thirty-Eight Warning

Near the south gate of Changshan County, a group of children were playing games with a sweet-looking girl in front of a stall selling small ornaments.

"Guess which hand?" Wen Xiang smiled and held out two fists.

  "Left left."

"It's on the left, we saw it!"

"Xiang Jie, this time we won, no cheating allowed!" The children chattered and laughed.

Smelling the fragrance, she spread out her left hand, which was empty. Then she spread out her right hand, inside which were three or four pieces of soft candy.

"How did it end up like this......"

"I clearly saw it in my left hand!" The children were immediately bewildered.

"I'll give you one more chance." Wen Xiang smiled like a fox.

Just then, a thin old man passed by Wen Xiang's side, seemingly saying something. Wen Xiang's face immediately fell, and she handed the caramels to those children. After thinking for a moment, she turned around and walked towards a store, borrowed a pen from the accountant, asked for half a piece of paper, wrote a few words on it, thanked him, and then walked out.

Xiang left the South Gate and after more than 20 minutes, a middle-aged warrior with a large sack on his shoulder walked in from outside the city. His face looked somewhat tired, his hair was very strange, like it had been bitten by a dog, some places were long, some places were short, and some places seemed to have fallen out, revealing his scalp.

It's summer now, the weather is a bit hot, but around the middle-aged martial artist, there is a chill in the air. People who pass by him can feel the coolness and it feels very comfortable, so they always curiously glance at him several times.

As soon as the middle-aged warrior walked into the city gate, a tea house attendant came up with a smile: "May I ask, are you the noble brother?"

"It's me." The middle-aged warrior was taken aback: "Something happened?"

"Someone asked me to give this to you." The fellow handed over a note.

The middle-aged warrior unfolded the paper and was shocked to see four words written on it: beware of secret calculations.

The middle-aged warrior furrowed his brow: "Who told you to hand this over to me?"

"He is just a child," replied the fellow.

"Child? How old is he? Where is he?"

"He's gone early." The fellow smiled wryly and said: "I reckon that kid is like me, a runner. He's only six or seven years old..."

"Have you ever asked him who handed the note over to him?"

"He asked him and he said it was an old man."

The middle-aged warrior didn't speak again, he knew that asking more questions would yield nothing. However, the other party seemed so cautious, passing a note and changing several people in succession, the reminder inside shouldn't be unfounded.

Just then, several people walked towards the city gate, one of whom shouted from a distance: "Brother Gui, what are you doing here?"

The middle-aged warrior raised his head, recognizing the other party as a fellow wandering warrior with whom he had a relatively familiar relationship. If it were an ordinary day, he would have spoken directly and frankly, but now he added a layer of caution to his words, responding vaguely: "Just casually strolled around the Black Forest and dug up some medicinal herbs."

Within over ten meters around that middle-aged martial artist, there was a flow of cold air. Those people also felt it and looked at each other in dismay.

In the bedroom of Miaodao Pavilion, Su Tang was placed on a soft couch. His face was extremely pale, his breathing weak, and his chest barely rose and fell. The several wounds had stopped bleeding, or rather, there wasn't much blood left to bleed.

Xiang stretched out her fingertips and touched Su Tang's neck, after a moment, she suddenly said: "You wouldn't have done this on purpose just to get some kind of verification, would you?"

"How is this possible?" Longqi exclaimed in shock.

"I've asked around, those few assassins might have been following Mr. Su all the way, which means they've been lurking around Miaodao Pavilion for more than a day or two." Wen Xiang said slowly: "You didn't notice anything at all?"

"This is indeed my fault, the Miao Dao Pavilion has been peaceful for a long time, and our guard has also become somewhat lax." Long Qi sighed: "Don't forget, Su Tang was personally appointed by the Great Zun, how could I be so absurd? Moreover...I don't need to verify anything, many times, being muddled is a blessing. Besides, once Su Tang takes over, I will completely leave the Miao Dao Pavilion, what significance does your background have for me?"

"He's almost done for." Wen Xiang said: "You go out now."

"Good." Long Qi said: "I have already prepared the medicine, almost emptying several shops. Do you want to let them send it in?"

Wen Xiang's expression was somewhat complex, shaking his head and saying: "Not for the time being, I'll say it again, he really can't hold on much longer."

The dragon flag stopped talking, turned around and walked out, closing the door behind him. His eyes were filled with suspicion. He had emptied the medicine shop so that Wen Xiang wouldn't misunderstand his intentions towards the secret formula. But to his surprise, Wen Xiang didn't seem to care about it at all. This was strange. Was she just trying to pretend everything was fine and wait for Su Tang to die? It didn't seem like her... She could have simply said that Su Tang was beyond saving, and with Su Tang's current state, no one would have doubted it.

Xiao Bu Hui and Tong Fei sat in their seats, silent and speechless. Su Tang had just entered the Miao Dao Pavilion. If they said they had deep feelings for Su Tang, it would be too fake. They felt sorry for Su Tang, but more than that, they were angry. The master seat of the Miao Dao Pavilion was attacked under broad daylight. If nothing was done, the day when the Miao Dao Pavilion would collapse and disintegrate was not far away.

They must respond with the strongest attitude to this provocation!

"What does 'smelling fragrance' mean?" Xiao Bu asked softly.

"She will try her best." Long Qi said.

"If Mr. Su can't get through this pass, will you come back?"

"You've already left, what's the point of coming back?" Long Qi shook his head.

"Really......" Xiao Bu regretted for a moment, then smiled and said: "After this matter is over, everyone will take some time to gather together and have a good drink."

"At this time, you still have the mood to drink?" Long Qi frowned and said.

"He said we should have a meal together." Tong Fei responded bluntly, "Master has already given you one chance and won't give you another. Rather than waiting for Master to find some fool to mess up the Miao Dao Pavilion, let's leave first and avoid getting humiliated."

"Who dares to give you a hard time?!" Long Qi said, his gaze falling on Xiao Bu's body: "Bu, otherwise..."

"Don't get any ideas." Xiao Bu regretted interrupting: "I dislike doing this kind of mentally exhausting thing the most. By the way, have you asked Wen Xiang?"

"Smelling the fragrance she..." Long Qi suddenly thought of something, greatly shocked and lost color, actually jumping up from his chair in an instant, fine cold sweat breaking out on his forehead, eyes wide with fear.

"What's wrong?!" Xiao Bu regretted hastily.

"Nothing... nothing at all." Longqi forced a smile.

"What's wrong?" Xiao Buwu looked at Long Qi seriously: "Knowing you all these years, I've never seen you get scared like this, is the sky going to fall?"
