Chapter 17: Best Friend Super Thief

"Welcome to our humble abode, Razzel," Mena said, presenting her new friend their bedroom.

She was kind of worried that Razzel would judge them due to being two loud-and-proud witches. But the magician seemed more awestruck over being in some other girl's rooms. Of course, there were some caveats.

"Where's the mandrake babies?!" she asked somewhat earnestly. "or the voodoo dolls?!"

"Yowie!" Mena exclaimed flushed from anger. "What kind of witches do you think we are? We're certainly not witch doctors!"

Trudy added with a nod. "And the witch doctors we know have medical doctorate degrees!"

Straw Woman bounced on her stake. "And besides, witches give brains to inanimate objects like me. They're more like witch surgeons!"

"I'm sorry," Razzel answered, hanging her head in shame. "I shouldn't be so stereowitchible with you guys. Admittedly, it's been why it's been hard making friends here."

"You must not know a lot of good witches," Mena exclaimed, her hands on her hips as she leaned forward towards Razzel's face.

Razzel held her hands closed to her body and looked ashamed over her shoulders. "Admittedly, no. When I was on the ground of Autolycus, many, many people called me a witch and said I was a bad spellcaster. And quite a few lumped me in with a bad crowd of witches too."

Trudy's wide eyes magnified even further behind her glasses. "So you didn't even know one good witch?! There's so many of us up here!"

"There was one…" Razzel said softly. Quieter than a particularly shy mouse. "But she's gone now.

Mena gave her new friend a wink. She had not heard the last part of what her friend said, but she indeed wanted to be that good witch for her in addition to Trudy. "Luckily, we're here to fix that! You've never had witch friends like us!"

"I can tell," Razzel said, with a surprising amount of kindness in her voice.

She began darting around the room looking at different furniture and the inflatable Fabias doll. But the biggest thing that caught her eye lay on Mena's nightstand. An age-old tome lay stacked on top of Mena's schoolbooks. "Nightcreepers of the Deep," Razzel read aloud. "Interesting class book. I don't remember this being handed out in Caligari's class!"

"That's because it wasn't!" Mena said. "I kinda have a special class alone with Caligari. Or I did but…uh I kinda don't want to get into it!"

Fortunately, Razzel mercifully changed the subject to the heavy cloud of dirt and dust at the center of the room. "Why's it so filthy here?" Razzel asked.

Mena didn't want to talk about Janus leaving, but even that was better than talking about the dreamfish.

"You know that boney reaper girl who was with those two meanie elf twins?"

Razzel shivered. "She was a total creepaholic!"

Trudy winced over Raz's harsh words towards Janus. It seemed to Mena that Trudy still cared about the traitor. Trudy spoke in her soft, low voice. "That creepaholic was our ex-roommate."

Razzel took her magician's hat and wiped a bead of sweat from her brow. Or at least it looked like it. Mena didn't see any sweat. "Egads," the magician said, placing her hat on Mena's nightstand. "That would be too much for me!"

"Well," Mena said, with a snort from her button nose. "We're much happier having a new friend from the realm of the living now!"

"I am too…" Razzel said with a light head bob. She picked up her hat and placed it on her head. "And it was a really nice time! Thanks for inviting me to your room. Now I've got some homework to do!"

Mena giggled and her and Trudy offered her a welcome smile. "We're glad you passed our superfriends audition!" the young witch said. "I can't wait to see you in the cafeteria tomorrow. You'll make our bullies go poof!"

Razzel walked quickly to the door. "Of course. It's gonna be totally hunky dory."

Mena bid her new friend farewell and she was gone.

As the door closed, Mena said down on her bed with half-lidded eyes. "We really lucked out, Trudy. I'm glad to have a best friend super pal like Razzel!"

"Uh Mena," Trudy blubbered. "Uhm uh uhhhh…I don't think she is our best friend super pal?"

"Blasthphemy!" Mena lisped from her braces. "Why do you say that?"

Trudy pointed her pudgy hand towards the nightstand. "She stole your nightcreeper book!!!"
