Chapter 16: Downhill

  Chapter Sixteen Down the Peak

Zhao Ji's determination to climb down the Fei Xiang Peak was firm, and he used all his might, stumbling and staggering along the way, until he finally reached the end of the thousand-foot-long rope.

A thousand feet long rope, a distance of three kilometers, suspended in mid-air with hands and feet working together, slowly sliding downwards, a test of arm strength that is not small.

Fortunately, the mountain wall that Qianzhang's long rope passed through was not as steep and smooth as imagined. Halfway through, there were a few places where the three of them could temporarily land, which allowed Zhao to hold on until the end.

This is a sloping precipice, the slope is not very large, standing on it with one person, as long as you hold onto the protruding rocks on the mountain wall, there's no need to worry about falling off.

Zhao Ji and Ding Dian, Tian Hong three people, lined up on the slope, turned their heads down to take a look, the endless vast land at the foot of Fei Sheng Peak, vaguely showed its outline, as if it was within reach.

"Brother Ding, Master Tianhong, the distance to the ground is not far away. According to my estimate, it should be less than two hundred zhang. Looking at this section of road, it's not extremely steep and treacherous. Perhaps we can try climbing down with our bare hands."

Zhao Ji carefully observed the scene below and made a rough estimate. He then proposed to Ding Dian and Tian Hong.

"It looks feasible. A distance of 200 meters is not considered long, and this route is indeed not so steep. I am confident that I can safely reach the ground."

Ding Dian said with full confidence.

  "I should be able too."

Tian Hong nodded after a moment of contemplation.

"Alright, let's go down together then. However, with my abilities, I might be a bit overwhelmed, so it would be great if the two of you could lend me a hand."

Zhao Jidong set the tone while also giving the two a preventive shot.

The following two hundred or so zhang route, for Ding Dian and Tian Hong, may not be a problem, can be climbed down with bare hands, but Zhao Ji's ability is indeed slightly worse, if the equipment is complete it would be fine, in the case of only having one flying claw, wanting to reach the ground is not without danger.

"This goes without saying, don't worry, if you're in danger, Master Tianhong and I won't stand idly by."

With a pat on his chest, Ding Dian guaranteed, and Tian Hong also echoed beside him.

Without the danger of losing his footing and falling to his death, Zhao Yi's heart calmed down. He, Ding Dian, and Tian Hong moved together, slowly making their way down.

Free climbing, this extreme sports project, Zhao Ji had tried before, but such a steep cliff, such a long distance, he was experiencing for the first time.

Choosing a place to land, Zhao Ji took step by step downwards, and when he had climbed down about a hundred feet, his arm strength was exhausted, and one hand actually loosened its tight grip on the rocky cliff.

At that moment, Zhao Ji's situation was truly at the point of danger, with one hand and one foot suspended in mid-air, while the strength of his other hand and foot were far from enough to support his body, and he was about to lose his footing and fall off, smashing into a meat pie.

At that critical moment, Ding Dian made his move. He grabbed the mountain wall with one hand and reached out to grab Zhao's suspended hand with the other.

With the help of Ding Dian, who fulfilled his promise, Zhao Ji almost fell to the ground, but at the moment when he was about to lose his footing, he regained his balance and stuck tightly to the mountain wall, like a gecko.

"Brother Ding, Master Tianhong, I'm exhausted. Let's find a place to rest for now and set off again after we've recovered."

Still reeling from the shock, Zhao Ji said with a somewhat absent-minded tone.

This stretch of rock face is already quite close to the base of the mountain peak, and there are places where one can set foot, although not every three to five meters are visible, but it's not impossible to find them.

They stopped in a recess of the mountain wall, Ding Tian and Tian Hong were fine, their faces weren't red, they weren't panting, not looking like they had just gone through intense exercise at all. As for Zhao Ji, he was somewhat disheveled.

His face was flushed, his body was drenched in sweat, and his arms were also weak and numb. He lay in the cave, gasping heavily for a long time before he felt slightly better.

"How are you? Can you still hold on? If not, then rest here for a while. I'll go down with Tianhong Master to explore the surrounding situation."

Zhao Ji doesn't look so tired anymore, said Ding Dian with concern.

"It's not necessary, and there isn't much distance left anyway, I can hold on a bit longer."

With a wave of his hand, Zhao Ji said resolutely.

After resting for half a time, feeling refreshed, the three of them set off again. The remaining less-than-hundred-zhang journey was much better than the previous one. The three of them walked safely and smoothly, treading on solid ground.

"Ah, finally came down, wasn't easy."

His feet were firmly on the ground, Zhao Ji looked up and saw that the platform outside the valley was hidden in the layers of white clouds, without a single trace.

"Yes, the valley is indeed too high from the ground, a full 1,700 zhang. If not for those three ropes, we wouldn't have been able to get down."

  Ding Dian followed Dao.

"Amitabha Buddha, this peak is almost as high as the heavenly rampart."

Tian Hong couldn't help but make a sarcastic comment.

After recalling the difficulties of descending, Zhao Ji quickly gathered his emotions, clapped his hands and said excitedly: "No matter what, we've finally made it down. Next, let's go find out if there are any people around here."

Due to Zhao Yifei's identity as the Ascended Envoy, Ding Dian and Tian Hong, in their respective worlds, although they were not ordinary people, all unconsciously regarded him as the master.

They chose a direction and moved forward. Three miles later, they still didn't see any signs of human activity, at which point the three of them couldn't help but furrow their brows in concern.

"Zhao Ji, it seems that this place is quite desolate. Wanting to find any signs of human activity might not be so easy after all. Well, well."

Looking around at the uniform scenery, Tian Hong shook his head and said.

This may be a mountainous area, at least it is a hilly region. Hundreds of meters away, there will be a mountain peak, regardless of its height. The top of these mountains and hills are all lush with trees and greenery.

Such a scene made Zhao Ji's eyes light up, and he felt like he had arrived at the Peach Garden. However, his purpose of searching for signs of human habitation was not achieved, leaving him somewhat dissatisfied.

"Look, there is smoke over there, so there must be people."

Suddenly, Ding Dian pointed in one direction and exclaimed with surprise.

Following Ding Dian's pointing direction, indeed, not far away, under the azure sky, several smoke columns of varying thickness and density were rising straight up into the sky.

"This scene made Zhao extremely happy, and he excitedly said: 'Great, there really is a smoke column, not just one, which means that place should have a human settlement, at least a village.'"

"Amitabha Buddha, ancestors bless us, we can pass by, perhaps, and know where we are."

  Rainbow also delights in color.
