Chapter Twelve: Being Trapped
Under Harlot's lead, the crowd escaped to that secret valley, and the guard team indeed chased up. Almost at the same time they entered, the other side also caught up with the entrance of the valley.
The valley was sandwiched between two towering mountains, and the only way to enter the valley was through a narrow gorge, easy to defend but hard to attack. As it was a temporary camp for the bandits, there were also several simple wooden houses inside.
Whether it was because they were afraid of Freddy in their hands or because the situation was unclear, the police team that had been chasing to the valley mouth stopped and began to set up camp to lay siege.
After several bandits were reluctantly arranged at the canyon entrance as sentries, everyone finally settled down.
After being put down by Ligit, Silsa angrily said: "Impudent guy, have you also been infected by him? Do you know what the consequences of doing so are?"
"Sorry, it's an emergency, I'm thinking of you too." Rikit lowered his head.
"I've told you before, the lord of the castle would never betray my father, it's all that guy's doing! If you want to hide in this ghostly place, you can hide yourselves, I'm going out." Silsa said, and walked straight out.
"Princess, calm down..." Rikit intervened hastily.
At this time, he suddenly heard Raymond's lazy voice: "Big sister, don't you understand even now? Those guys are here to kill you, we're just the poor people who got dragged in."
"If you really don't believe it, then go ahead and try it out." Raymond said, turning sideways and making a "please be my guest" gesture.
Looking at Raymond's infuriating smile, Silsa hesitated for a moment before finally letting out a cold snort and falling silent.
Rickett breathed a sigh of relief and thanked Raymond gratefully: "Thanks, or else I really don't know what would have happened."
Raymond shook his head: "I just happened to think of it. Now that I think about it, the timing of those people's appearance was very clever, really made me defenseless."
At this time, Harlot came over: "I said, I've already brought you here. Now that the Guardian team has arrived, why are you still running for your lives?"
Raimon said: "If it's really reinforcements, that would be great. Unfortunately, those guys probably won't let us off the hook either."
Harold disbelievingly said: "Why? We've already saved that girl, haven't we?"
"Because those people weren't here to save anyone."
"Wait, what do you mean?" Harlot asked in astonishment: "They didn't come to save people, did they come to kill people?"
At this time, Ligit said: "On the way to the valley, I thought about the previous things and had a rough guess."
"To be honest, this matter is very simple. It's just the continuous use of two tactics. The planner of this attack entrusted the bandits to launch a surprise attack on the convoy through their hands, and then sent out the security team to clean up afterwards in order to silence them. As for whether it's you or us, there's actually no difference, because the other side never intended to let anyone live."
"So, we who were inexplicably dragged into this are actually the most unfortunate ones." Raymond said helplessly.
In fact, it's just a simple linked plan, which is "borrowing a knife to kill someone" and "killing someone to silence them". However, the other side actually dispatched the guard team to silence them, this move has quite a bit of deception, plus everyone was in the midst of it, until they escaped to the valley before having time to carefully think back, so it wasn't until now that they realized.
It has to be said that simple plans are often very effective, unfortunately they encountered Raymond, twice foiled, the murder didn't succeed, and the silencing also didn't work, it's extremely frustrating. Otherwise, Ricket and Harlot would have been dead a long time ago.
"I have a question." Haruhi, being very "studious", raised her hand: "If it's because they're afraid we'll leak the information and that's why they killed them, then why not do it themselves from the start? Wouldn't that be more convenient?"
Ricket said: "I think, probably to achieve a certain effect, such as being robbed and killed by thieves in an 'accident'. Because this situation can be fabricated afterwards, but how can it compare to letting a group of thieves really attack? This way, you only need to silence them afterwards, and there will be no flaws."
"You... you mean to say..." Harriet stammered.
Rickett nodded: "Unfortunately, from start to finish, your role is probably just a scapegoat and an accidental scene, as evidence of the corpse."
He said, turning to Freddy, who had been listening intently to the three men talking: "Am I right, Mr. Freddy?"
Freddie sneered: "I thought this operation was going to be very simple, but I didn't expect it to be so full of unexpected twists and turns. It seems that I was too careless, especially with you."
As he spoke, he pointed at Raymond: "I originally thought you were adventurers who could be bought with money, and when the time came, I would kill you all on the spot. Those two beastmen would be able to confuse the scene even more, ensuring my plan was foolproof. Who knew... kid, this time you really made me fall flat on my face."
"Alright, alright. To be honest, if you hadn't paid such a generous deposit, I wouldn't have been interested at all."
"Ugh, you bastard, I'm going to kill you!" Suddenly, Harlot, who was getting more and more depressed, drew his sword and slashed at Freddy.
Ricket hastily pulled him back: "Wait a minute, there's something truly important that hasn't been made clear yet."
"What else? I'd rather just kill him directly, it's more convenient." Harlot said with hatred.
Ricket said, "As the lady of Silith County, she is not an ordinary person. No one would want to kill her without a reason. The plan set by Freddy must have other purposes behind it that we don't know."
"However, there's just too little information to refer to, and I still can't guess it for the time being." Rikit said to Freddy, "I wonder if Mr. Freddy has any hints?"
In such a situation, Freddy still had the leisure to applaud: "Mr. Ricket's analysis is truly brilliant, with your talent, it's hard to imagine that you're just a small town assistant."
After a moment of silence, Rickett suddenly said: "I am not a noble."
"Oh, I see." Freddy's eyes widened in realization, followed by a self-deprecating smile: "Interesting, neither am I."
He then looked at Raymond and Harlotte: "If I'm right, you two are just ordinary civilians too."
"What's it to you?" Harlot said with a defiant thrust of her chest.
Raymond did not say yes or no. Although he had the identity of a prince, when he left the northern wilderness, it was equivalent to giving up, so it's not unreasonable to say that.
Freddie shook his head: "No, I just spoke on impulse."
"So, which noble are you working for?" Ricket asked again.
"Apparently you still don't understand, in this country of Dinarl, there are some things that ordinary people can never control. So, who I work for and what my purpose is, it's better if you don't know. Sometimes dying in ignorance is happier."
"What did you say? Don't even look at your own situation, who will die first is still uncertain." Harlot raised his sword again.
Freddie seemed to have made up his mind that the three were doomed, and he sat down on a rock behind him with a calm tone: "Then let's just wait and see."
"That's strange, why is that eccentric guy so certain?" Rickett pulled the two aside and said.
"And yet, under the current circumstances, he doesn't seem flustered at all, as if he's very confident that he can get away." Raymond said in surprise.
Harold swung his sword and said, "If you ask me, just stomp on his feet, I bet he won't be able to grow wings and fly away."
"Is there another way out of this valley?" Rickett asked suddenly.
Halo shook her head: "Here are surrounded by mountains on all sides, except for that canyon, there is no other way."
"In other words, while we're safe for the moment, we're also trapped here," Ricket said.
"Let's talk about this later, everyone is tired, let's get a good rest first and think of a way to escape tomorrow."
He beckoned Bastar over and pointed at Freddy: "Keep an eye on that guy, something might happen tonight."
He then said in a low voice, "Also, tell Rutz to be careful of those bandits taking advantage of the situation."
Although they are now on the same boat, his side has killed many of them, and Raymond is not naive enough to think that these bandits will really be in harmony with him. As long as there is an opportunity, those guys will probably turn against each other without hesitation.
"Don't worry, young master, leave it to me." Bast said with a pat on his chest.
The whole valley, I'm afraid she is the only one who doesn't take her current situation to heart.
Before long, people who had been tired for a day began to disperse in the valley to rest. The only few wooden houses, one was given to Xier Sha to live in, and one was used to detain Fredy.
Due to the external enemy, people temporarily forgot their hatred for each other. As the sunlight that had shot into the valley gradually decreased, the whole valley's snores rose and fell, gradually becoming quiet.
