Chapter Twenty: Escaping Danger
"Rude!?"
When everyone rushed to the west gate, ready for a bloody battle with the wolf cavalry, they were shocked to find that it was already littered with corpses.
The corpses of the Wolf Warriors and the Wolf Cavalry were scattered all over the main street leading to the city gate, with blood flowing everywhere, dyeing the entire street red, forming a true "Blood Road".
At the end of this bloody road, under the city gate, the only person who was still alive, covered in blood and wearing a suit of armor stripped from a wolf cavalryman, sat on the corpse of a warwolf, quietly watching the crowd.
When he saw Raymond, Rudes stood up and stretched out his hand towards the open city gate: "Lord Raymond, as you ordered, I am guarding the city gate here. You can leave at any time."
Looking at this steady and majestic Bimon person, Raymond smiled: "Do you know, Rutz, you are the most qualified captain of the city gate guard in history."
"Son, this open city gate and this guy, it seems you've prepared two surprises for me." At that time, Amada, who was lying in Robard's arms, said languidly.
"Alright, let's leave the city immediately." Robard ordered, and everyone hurried towards the city gate.
However, things were never destined to go so smoothly. Just as success was within reach, a deafening roar suddenly rang out, and the house at the end of the street exploded into fragments, while a massive black shadow rushed out wildly.
"It's this pest again." Robard clicked his tongue and said.
"Raymond, you're not getting away this time!" The newcomer bellowed as he rapidly charged towards the crowd, and to everyone's surprise, it was Haken again.
The gigantic Behemoth was covered in fresh blood, its two massive paws still clutching the corpses of two Dog Heads. It had clearly broken through Dave's defenses, driven by a thirst for revenge against Raymond and charging alone.
"Alas, how much does this guy hate me?" Raymond helplessly covered his forehead.
Without waiting for orders, a team of Minotaurs charged forward with battle-axes at the ready, preparing to block Haken's path. Haken hurled the Cynocephalus in his hand at them and then charged into the midst of the Minotaurs.
In an instant, blood splattered everywhere. Even the robust Minotaurs were powerless in front of the enraged Haken. Under the giant paws of the Bimon beast, the Minotaurs were all torn apart and fell to the ground dead, with several even being slapped flying by Haken.
He didn't expect him to be so brave, Zhu Er was about to personally lead someone to block the way. Suddenly, Lutz rushed out and completed his transformation while running, followed by a pure black Bimon beast rushing towards Haken.
The two beasts crashed into each other, and a dull sound like thunder echoed through the air as their bodies collided. They both retreated, only to entwine again with a loud roar.
What's astonishing is that Haken, who had never met an opponent before, was not much different from Rudz. The two giant Bimon beasts were like two bulldozers, rolling and twisting on the ground, leaving a trail of destruction wherever they went, with corpses being crushed into meat sauce and houses being reduced to rubble, their power was truly terrifying.
After a brief struggle, Haken fiercely grabbed Rud's chest, and fresh blood splattered from Rud's chest. The stimulation of the severe pain caused Rud to go berserk, he suddenly bent down and hugged Haken's waist, and actually lifted him up with brute force, throwing him heavily towards a house.
There was a loud crash, and the giant Bimon beast smashed into the house, causing wood and stone to fly everywhere. The entire house collapsed, burying Haken inside.
"Take advantage of this opportunity, Raymond shouted: "Bastard!"
The cat woman understood, grabbed the torch inserted beside her and rushed over, throwing the torch into the ruins of the house.
The flames rose rapidly at a speed exceeding normal combustion and spread quickly to the surroundings, with a tendency to burn down the entire street. This was because Ruz had previously tampered with the houses on both sides of the street, adding flammable materials, which made the fire rise so quickly.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, everyone rushed to pass through the city gate and escape outside. Before leaving, Rudz was about to cut off the iron chain that controlled the gate's fence and block the gate, but was stopped by Raymond.
"Your Highness, if we don't do this, there may still be enemies who will catch up with us," Rud said.
Raymond shook his head: "No, compared to this, I'm more concerned about whether a guy can escape. For him, I'd rather take the risk."
Rud looked at Raymond quietly and nodded: "I understand."
At last, after several bloody battles, Raymond and his party finally managed to escape from the city of Jiao Ya. And at this time, they could still hear Hakken's roar in the sea of fire.
"Raymond, you coward, you've always looked down on me, never daring to fight me fair and square. Bastard, one day I'll personally twist your head off!"
"Alright, now that we're here, how are we going to get past this?"
Before long, they arrived at the banks of the wide Hafdane River. Amada asked Raymond:
"Rud, are you ready?" Raymond turned his head towards Rud.
Rudolph nodded: "It's already been taken care of. However, there was a bit of a problem - the guy who was originally supposed to do it got killed at the city gate, so we need to send someone else in instead."
"Hmm..." Raymond hesitated for a moment, then looked at Bastet.
"Meow!?" It seemed that Bastet had guessed what Raymond wanted her to do, and all the cat hair on her body stood up: "Master, no way, I'm most afraid of water."
"Shouldn't you have received training in water operations?" Raymond wondered.
Bast said: "That's what I'm saying, but... it's really uncomfortable to get wet all over, and the water is very dark underneath..."
"What the devil are you people doing? Hurry up and do what you have to do! If the enemy catches up, it will be too late!" The irascible old bull-headed man couldn't help but bellow.
"Look, you've made the high priest angry." Raymond smiled and patted Bastet's little head: "Anyway, you'll have plenty of chances to do it again later. Just consider this a rehearsal for now."
The cat girl's face turned green as she exclaimed: "Ah, you want more!?"
"Less nonsense, go quickly." Raymond kicked her little upturned buttocks.
Although extremely unwilling, Bastet had no choice but to follow the order. She grumbled and walked to the riverbank. It was only then that everyone noticed that there were two huge logs standing upright on the other side of the river, and similarly, there were also two on this side.
Bastet walked into the water, and although she had received strict training, her feline nature still made her feel uncomfortable all over. When she reached a position where the water was up to her waist, the cat woman took a deep breath and dove underwater.
In an instant, a creaking sound was heard, and it seemed that something in the water had risen slightly. After another moment, with the same sound, a wave rippled out on the surface of the water, and at the same time, from the water in front of the wooden stakes on the shore, two thick ropes tied to wooden bars emerged from the water.
"A floating bridge?" Robard exclaimed in surprise.
It turned out that after Rutz built the pontoon bridge, he had people drop stones under the bridge to make it sink into the water so as not to be discovered. Just now, Bastard dove into the water and cut off the ropes tied with stones, and then the pontoon bridge floated up to the surface of the water.
Before long, the entire floating bridge emerged from the river, and even Amada couldn't help but exclaim in admiration. And when Ramon said that it was all made by Rutz, everyone looked at this taciturn Bimonian in disbelief.
Then the group crossed the wide Hafdan River on a rickety bridge. After crossing, Amada immediately ordered: "Dismantle the bridge."
Two Minotaurs were about to cut the ropes connecting the floating bridge when Ramon stopped them: "Wait a minute."
Amada was taken aback: "Raymond, what are you waiting for?"
"Besides, there are still some people who haven't escaped, we'd better wait a little longer."
"Who else?" The people present couldn't help but look at each other in dismay, as if to say "Everyone who should be here is already here", were they still waiting for Verona?
"Your Highness, who exactly is it?"
Raymond replied calmly, "Dave."
"What, that dog-headed man!?" As expected by Reimond, everyone looked at him in disbelief, as if what Reimond said was not the common language of the beast tribe.
"Why wait for that blockhead?"
"What if he brings in enemies?"
"The only use of those trash is to block the pursuers for us, how can they possibly wait here for them to escape."
……
For a moment, the murmurs of the crowd reached Raymond's ears. Among them, only Rudz was silent, and Basita, who knew Raymond's attitude towards dog-head people, also shut her mouth.
"Your Highness, forgive my impertinence. Those dog-headed men are not worth bothering with; if they die, there are plenty more to replace them. You really don't need to worry about those guys." Robard said directly to Raymond, being the older of the two.
Raymond shook his head firmly: "No, we must wait for them."
"Your Majesty..." Robard glanced at Amada with some helplessness.
"Raymond, don't mind them. Destroy the bridge immediately, let's go." Amada said sternly.
However, this time Raymond surprisingly shook his head: "Sorry, Mom, we can't abandon them."
"What did you say, are you going to risk your own mother's life for this?! And the price is just some dog-headed people!" Seeing Raymond ignoring his words, Amada became furious.
"They are not trash that can be discarded at will." Raymond shouted without turning his head.
Never had they seen Ramon and Amada have such a fierce argument, the people of Niu Tou watched in shock, then quietly retreated to one side, silent as cicadas in winter.
"You little scamp!" Amada was so angry that she saw stars, and then immediately furrowed her brow in pain from the wound.
Just then, Bastard shouted: "Someone ran out!"
Everyone looked intently and saw that in the distance, only a few short figures ran out of the city gate and rushed towards this side. Although they couldn't see the other person's appearance clearly, the extremely cumbersome decorations on the front figure's body clearly indicated their identity.
"It's Dave, they've actually escaped." Raymond exclaimed in surprise.
Since they've already arrived, it's not good for everyone to say anything else. Robard said: "Then let's wait for them..."
However, the old cow-headed man didn't finish speaking and suddenly widened his eyes. It turned out that from behind those dog-headed men, a large group of dark shadows rushed out in a surge, also charging towards this side.
"It's the Wolf Cavalry." The Minotaur people exclaimed in surprise.
The wolf cavalry did not immediately charge up to slaughter the dog-headed people, but instead drove the war wolves at a slow pace behind them, apparently intending to use these dog-headed people to occupy the floating bridge.
From afar, seeing the crowd, Dave couldn't help but shout repeatedly: "Your Majesty the Queen, Your Majesty the Queen! We are here, please don't abandon us."
"Not good, cut off the rope quickly." Experienced Robard saw through the wolf cavalry's intentions at a glance and hurriedly said.
"No way, we can't abandon them!" Raymond stopped Bullhead's action once again.
Amada was shocked and angry, scolding severely for the first time: "Raymond, do you know what you're doing?"
"Believe me, Mother, it's only with these guys that you can defeat Verona." Ramon turned his head calmly to Amada and then jumped onto the floating bridge: "Bast!"
"Meow, sorry about that, Your Majesty." Bastet apologized with a sheepish tongue-lolling expression, following closely behind Raymond.
Then Rutz stepped onto the pontoon bridge without a word.
After all, he was her own son. No matter how angry Amada was, she couldn't just sit back and watch Remon go to his death. Covering the wound on her chest, Amada's pale face gritted her teeth and said, "Robard."
"I understand." The old ox-headed man bowed deeply and then led the ox-headed people in a charge towards the opposite bank.
"Come on, cross the river from here!" Raymond shouted to the panting Dog Heads.
At the same time, Bastard flashed past his side, like a white ghost, and rushed into the wolf cavalry. Rutz also completed his transformation, swinging his giant claws, and several wolf cavalrymen were immediately splashed with blood and thrown away.
The dog-headed men didn't even dare to take a deep breath, and hastily scrambled up the floating bridge, running towards the opposite bank. Afterwards, Raymond also drew his sword and joined the battle array.
Three men defended the bridgehead and engaged in a fierce battle with the enemy. Although the wolf cavalry was numerous, due to the terrain, they were unexpectedly unable to break through their defensive line.
In the midst of anxiety, a wolf cavalry officer rode his war wolf back several steps, sprinted and suddenly jumped over Rutz's head onto the floating bridge. Raymond was shocked and just about to turn around to intercept him when a flying axe suddenly came and chopped the wolf cavalryman along with his wolf into the river.
At the same time, a battle flag with a blue glow suddenly appeared in the enemy crowd, and lightning bolts struck down from mid-air one after another. Many wolf riders were knocked to the ground by their startled war wolves, and the enemy formation was thrown into great disorder.
"Hahaha, High Priest, I knew you'd come." Raymond laughed loudly.
The old cow-headed man showed a gloomy expression and walked to Raymond's side: "Your Highness, is it really necessary to take such a risk for them?"
"Trust me, it's worth it." Raymond's eyes showed a determined look.
No longer speaking, Robard ordered Jules: "Take people to guard here and cover our retreat."
Zhu'er nodded without hesitation, leading his Minotaur warriors to the forefront, taking over the Wolf Cavalry's offensive. In the end, Raymond and others retreated from the floating bridge.
After everyone arrived at the other side, Robade looked at the Minotaur who were still fighting the Wolf Cavalry and said in a low voice: "Your Highness, please don't forget that this is the first time Minotaurs have sacrificed themselves for Canines."
As he spoke, the old cow-headed man personally cut off the ropes of the floating bridge. The floating bridge lost its support and scattered instantly, drifting to the center of the river with the current.
Gazing out at the cow-headed warriors on the opposite shore who had completely lost all hope, they gradually disappeared into the pack of wolves. The crowd standing on the riverbank was silent. At this moment, only Dave's excited shouts could be heard from behind.
"Wooo, Your Majesty the Queen, I will never forget your kindness today. From now on, I command all the dog-headed people to no longer serve those rebels and be loyal only to you."
"Alright, let's go. The road to the border is still very long."
Regarding Raymond's disobedient behavior, Amada was still seething with anger. She coldly responded with a sentence, indicating that she would turn around and leave with her Minotaur.
The crowd followed afterwards, and soon this branch of only a few dozen people gradually disappeared into the desolate wilderness.
