Chapter 6: Misunderstandings Cleared Up
Several people in the store turned their heads at the same time, only to see a group of guards led by a young man rushing over and quickly surrounding the entire equipment store in a fan shape.
He was a man of about 25 or 26 years old, with a handsome appearance, a high nose bridge supporting a pair of small round glasses, and deep blue eyes behind the lenses, calm and gentle.
The man had a well-proportioned figure, with a head of neat brown hair combed back from his forehead, and his clothes were also very becoming; even every wrinkle was carefully smoothed out, showing that he was a person who paid great attention to etiquette.
However, if you look closely, you will find that in this man's clear eyes, there is occasionally a flash of inexplicable sorrow. It seems that under his handsome appearance, he is hiding something that he does not want to reveal.
As soon as he saw him, the captain of the guard exclaimed in surprise: "Mr. Rickett? You're just in time, they've injured my men, quickly capture these adventurers."
"Master, what shall we do..." Rutz whispered behind Raymond.
Raymond let out a helpless sigh: "On the first day of arrival, I encountered such a thing. Ferris is really taking care of me. Forget it, don't kill anyone, we'll just rush out."
Until now, he didn't take these guards seriously. Compared to the beastmen, the combat strength of these guys in front of him was not worth mentioning.
"Understood." Rudes nodded and walked towards those people.
Outside the store, a man named Ricket hastily said: "Wait a minute, I'm not here to fight."
He turned back to the guards and said: "You wait here, no one is allowed to move without my order."
Then, Rickett raised his hands and walked towards the store alone.
"It's interesting, let him come in then." Raymond changed his mind and said.
Since it had come to this, he simply let go. Raymond's great sword was placed on the counter, one hand holding the hilt and resting on the neck of that unlucky captain, while the other hand rested on his knee, which was bent at a 90-degree angle, with a rather arrogant posture, really like some desperate and evil hijacker.
That's Raymond's style, he thinks thrice before acting, but once a decision is made, he'll see it through to the end without hesitation. Just like that night at the festival when he shot and killed the priest, although he knew the consequences of his actions, once he decided to take action, he didn't hesitate.
Coming before Raymond, Rickett bowed slightly: "Excuse me, I'm Rickett, the assistant to the mayor of Plaza Town. May I ask what's going on here?"
"Mr. Rickett, it's him..." the captain of the guard said hastily.
"Shut up." Raymond slapped his mouth with the sword: "There's nothing for you here anymore."
"This has nothing to do with me, so let me go!" The unlucky captain thought to himself, of course this was something he absolutely dared not say out loud, and could only obediently shut his mouth and be held as a hostage.
"To put it simply, this greedy store owner and that guy colluded to extort my sword, so I taught them a lesson." Raymond said lightly.
"No, this sword is mine, it's these people who want to steal it." Suddenly, the shopkeeper, who had been sitting on the ground all along, also cried out.
"Can I take a look at the sword?" Rickett suddenly walked up to the shop owner and squatted down with a smile.
"Ah? Oh..." The shop owner hadn't even reacted yet when the scabbard was already taken away by the other person.
"Hey, isn't that the famous sword made by Master Manson of Lovell's Guild?" But before he could even take a closer look, Rickett had already spoken out the origin of the sword.
Unexpectedly, the other party also recognized this sword. The shopkeeper felt a sense of foreboding and cold sweat immediately seeped from his forehead. He struggled to say: "That's right, such a precious sword, how could it possibly belong to these shabby guys?"
Ricket was just about to speak when a gloomy voice came from the entrance of the store: "I can testify that this sword belongs to those adventurers."
Everyone turned their heads, but it was a middle-aged man wrapped in a black coat who walked to the door. He wore a wide-brimmed hat and lowered his head, only revealing the part below his nose, but that cold, low-pitched voice left a deep impression.
"Who are you?" Rickett asked.
"I'm just a passerby." The man grasped the brim of his hat and lifted it slightly, as a sign of politeness: "However, I happened to have seen them. So out of a sense of responsibility, I've come to testify."
"He said, pointing at Raymond: 'I can testify that he was already carrying this sword before he entered the store.'"
Unexpectedly, there was a kind-hearted person who would vouch for him. Raymond nodded at the man: "Thanks."
"Somewhere." The man chuckled: "Your skills have left a deep impression on me, with your abilities, it's really not worth being entangled by these people, I just lent a helping hand."
"Well then, I'll take my leave." The man in black turned and walked away, taking two steps before turning back: "If possible, I look forward to meeting you again."
He had a hunch that there was more to what the man said, and Raymond wanted to ask him, but he walked extremely fast and soon blended into the crowd, disappearing from sight.
As he saw the man leave, the shopkeeper yelled out in desperation: "That... that guy is talking nonsense, he must be a helper they've found."
"Good grief, aren't you giving up yet?" Rickett slapped the shopkeeper's cheek: "Mr. Kortman, your store in Plaza is just mediocre, how come I don't remember you owning such an expensive sword? Having ulterior motives and intending to harm others, this isn't behavior befitting an honest businessman."
I didn't expect Plaza to have so many equipment stores, Rickett could clearly remember his own name and business situation, Kortman only felt a blackness in front of him, and immediately turned pale.
"Alright, that's settled." Ignoring the shop owner who was on the verge of fainting, Rickett clapped his hands and stood up: "Everyone can leave now."
The other party was so straightforward that Raymond was stunned. He couldn't help but say, "I injured the security team here, and you're just letting us go like this?"
"Please don't say that. As law enforcers, they tried to frame innocent people, they are simply a bunch of scum. I should thank you for exposing them for us."
"I'll take them down with Cortman and make sure they get what's coming to them."
The captain of the guard and Kortman simultaneously let out a pained groan upon hearing this.
"Hey, wait a minute." Suddenly, Bast said with a hum: "You've done such a thing and didn't even apologize. Do you think you can just take someone away like that? You're thinking too lightly of this, aren't you?"
"Ah, yes indeed, beautiful miss." Ricket hastily turned around and elegantly bowed to Bastet: "I was truly impolite. So, as compensation, the equipment in this store is yours to take freely, I wonder if you're satisfied?"
Poor Cortman let out a faint groan once again.
"Wow, young master, he called me a beautiful miss." Bastet covered her face with a blush: "This person might be a good person."
Raymond: ……
"In short, that's how things ended." Rickett called over a few guards and had Cortman and the guard captain taken away.
"Well, I'm off too."
He walked two steps and then turned around: "Praza is a nice town, you can visit it freely. However, please keep the quiet here as much as possible."
After leaving the equipment shop, a guard couldn't help but say: "Mr. Rickett, those guys are just adventurers, why do you have to be so polite to them?"
Rickett gave him a look: "Idiot, can't you really see?"
"What's going on?" The guard and his companion exchanged a bewildered glance.
"If they were truly adventurers, with skills like that, they would have been famous long ago. Who among you has heard of such a small team?"
"Are they fake?" The guard was shocked.
"Then why didn't you..." another guard said.
"Arrest them? Don't be ridiculous, do you think that ugly big fellow is just an ordinary beastman? That cat woman isn't someone to be trifled with either. Although I don't know what that man's background is, he probably isn't simple either."
"Today, some important people are coming to the city. Although they will only be staying for a day, I must avoid causing any trouble. If I were to provoke them, heaven knows what kind of chaos would erupt with a demon, a cat person and a mysterious human around."
"So, as long as they don't cause trouble, let's just leave them be for now. And my intuition tells me that person isn't the type to stir up unnecessary trouble."
He said to the dejected Kortman, "You don't even know what kind of background they have, and yet you dare to provoke such a ruthless character. Greed can indeed make people infinitely stupid."
The pale-faced shopkeeper's head hung even lower at these words.
At the same time, inside the equipment shop.
"What shall we do, Master?" Bast asked, looking up at Raymond with pleading eyes.
Raymond's eyes narrowed slightly as if he was thinking about something. Upon hearing this, he uttered an "oh" and said: "What to do? Since that guy has already said so, just take what you like."
"Really?" The cat girl was overjoyed and immediately hugged the pair of water buffalo skin boots in her arms.
"No, no way." Bastard suddenly shook his head vigorously: "I mean, what's next? Will those people really let us go or will they take advantage of our carelessness and launch a sneak attack. This is human territory after all, young master, we should be careful..."
"Most of the time you're annoyingly silly, but sometimes you think too much." Before the cat girl could finish speaking, Raymond rubbed her head.
"Huh? But..."
"Alright, alright, it's fine." Raymond said confidently: "The guy just now had a very clear gaze, he shouldn't be the kind of person who would play such a low trick. Besides, we've finally arrived here, do you want to leave without even trying anything?"
"Meow, is it delicious? Young master, let's hurry then." As soon as food was mentioned, the cat girl forgot everything.
Almost in sync with her cheers, a chorus of growling stomachs echoed through the store.
Raymond burst out laughing and walked towards the counter: "Alright, change into new clothes, let's go have a good meal."
